My first Pokémon game was Diamond. I named my rival Albert but spelled it Abert by accident. In hindsight I'd be better off going with a meme name for the funny.
When I first played Pokemon, I didn't know how to turn off caps so I ended up naming my character ALEX (not my real name btw). It always looked like the NPCs were screaming at him.

I remember when these polls dropped and everyone was shocked Incineroar scored so relatively high and past Decidueye, which people assumed was the most popular fully-evolved Alola starter. People had trouble believing it was genuinely liked at the time over the rage it wasn't quadrupedal.

I wonder how most back then would feel learning Incineroar is the only one of the trio who had any staying power at all, much less the surprisingly long time it keeps sticking around in media and not just in VGC. I suspect someone at GF really loves it, loves tigers, or both. Though it feels like time's been kind to it since I think a lot of hatred has subsided by now.

I wonder if the furry fandom was part of why Incineroar i so liked and isliked.

In fairness, the default format for names up until I think Gen III was all-caps, so everyone was essentially screaming at each other.

When I first played pokemon as a kid, I didn't read the option of nicknaming your pokemon properly at first, so I nicknamed my Squirtle "Squirtle", which in the end he evolved into a Blastoise named "Squirtle".

It happened: battery in my copy of Blue Version ran out. Lasted at least 25 years. At least I wasn't really playing it anymore though.

Transferring Pokemon from gen 4 to gen 5 doesn't correct their all-caps names, so I fixed it myself by naming my PIKACHU Pikachu.
But then I evolved it, so now I have a Raichu named Pikachu.

It looks like a furry design. It's tony the tiger for faggots and that's why it was and is hated.

GO NIGGER!
I CHOOSE YOU GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!

How well do the switch games run on Steam deck emulation? I haven't played the new DLCs and I refuse to pay nintendo for games this poorly made.

In regards to the animation talk, what people forget is that the only reason it became a point of contention is because masuda and company use that as an excuse for the Pokedex cut.

Nobody really cared about that until then, so it is very much a self-made problem thanks to slothfulness and dishonesty

I'm not even a person who cares about the national dex, but it'd be stupid to pretend that Nintendo and TPC didn't beat people over the head with the idea that Pokemon are your friends and that backwards compatibility seemed inevitable be it the anime or other media.

Another thing that people forget, is that a lot of the criticisms about the lack of content depletion such as the loss of side events and whatnot, was going on as early as Oras, so this was already building up.

Weren't the 3D models they debuted in XY made purposefully more complex than the 3DS could display so they'd be "future-proof"? Ultimately to the detriment of performance in those games, no less?

I heard recently this shit is easily fixable: back up the save file then do a surgical operation to replace the battery with a new one then it’s as good as new.
Also I heard about a battery clamp of sorts, basically you will only solder it once.

It was a bad idea because those models were going to start showing their age regardless TBH.

They were always going to have to bite the bullet and redesign some of the Pokemon models to look up to date with all the millions of dollars they have.

Even as early as sun and moon, compare a newer model like incineroar to OG Golem or even that awful flying Swellow model, and things were already getting muddy.

Pokemon graphics quality were up for debate during Sun/Moon because the frame rates were so low. It would dip to single digits on original DS.

Most people don't care about the side content and online has replaced most of it and expanded what the average player uses. The autists cry about the battle dome but how many put any effort in to grind everything up just to unlock some rare PvP items they wouldn't use any way? Lots of noise but little impact on the player base.

The response to pokemon controversies is always "Who cares" for the majority of people. Very few were carrying over their gen 3 pikachu all the way to the Switch. It impacted a very small number of very vocal people. Most people didn't even trade their pokemon around, each game was it's own stand alone adventure and trading was a pain to do until Pokemon Home / Box or whatever the 3DS one was.

You can get a Shiny Ting-Lu on SV via Mystery Gift now, it’ll be available until the 30th.

Oh, and there was some drama in the TCG scene recently.

Firstly, a botter group managed to order over 42,000 Phantasmal Flames products (this November's set featuring Mega Charizard X and Mega Gengar) from the Pokémon Center before the listings were activated. There's currently mixed responses to it. Some sources say that PC canceled those orders, others say they didn't, and a small amount of people are saying that the first is a red herring being sent out by the bot group to keep the heat off 'em.

And secondly an old high-level TCG competitor by the name of Gino Lombardi was recently unbanned from sanctioned tournaments after being permanently banned for cheating (and, if you want to get technical, stealing a card binder and a Macbook from another competitor the day after Worlds 2013 concluded) with Andrew Mahone publishing a "documentary" about him to YouTube. (Un)fortunately for Gino the ban was quickly reinstated after word came out about him sexting an underaged TCG competitor back in 2015 and he's been being an lolcow about it since then.

EDIT: Someone reuploaded the documentary (Mahone delisted and later removed it when the sexting allegations came out), I'm working on getting a local archive up but it's 8 minutes short of an hour.

That sucks, my Red version could still save but I had a friend of mine fix the battery on it just to be safe.
Has the Pokémon Company actually listened to the noise?
I personally like to think that the Indigo Disk DLC was made somewhat tougher (even though that's not saying much) and pushing VGC-style double battles into it due to people pointing the lack of any sort of difficult post-story stuff.

How would one even back up that data?

You need to get a cartridge dumper for GB or GBC games, or you can use an N64 Everdrive and GB transfer pack. I've backed up my GBA games and saves using a NDS with a GBA slot and a cheap flashcart I got off Amazon. DS and 3DS games are easy to back up once you have some CFW running on a 3DS. Pretty easy if you have the hardware, but otherwise you're looking at spending a decent amount of money.

Yep, the models being too high-poly for the 3DS may even be the reason why triple battles were removed, the lag was noticeable even in doubles.

Here's some 3D model 'tism. Creatures is in charge of the 3D models, at some point they made complex base models for each Pokemon and have been reusing them ever since. The Pikachu model we see in Scarlet and Violet is suspiciously similar to the one in the Pokepark games. Some of them are slightly adjusted or retopologized, but it's pretty easy to tell which games use this edited base model and which ones create their own:
Pokepark.webp Scarlet Violet.webp PMDRTDX.webp Pokedex 3D Pro.webp
These are the models from Pokepark Wii, Scarlet and Violet, Rescue Team DX, and Pokedex 3D Pro, and they're all very similar. Now compare them to the models from Detective Pikachu, Battle Revolution and SSBB:
Detective Pikachu.webp Battle Revolution.webp SSBB.webp
These were clearly made from scratch, the poses and proportions are noticeably different. With this in mind, some of the blame for reusing the same models over and over again and using higher poly models than the console can handle may actually be on Creatures and not Game Freak. I'm not sure how much creative control GF has over these models.
