double-posting because what I'm about to say is barely-related schizo nonsense, but were Dot and Liko originally supposed to have each others' partners?
I swear I'm not going insane, look at their designs:
Both of their outfits are tailored to their exact opposite partners.
Dot has:
The main thing making me hesitate on this theory is the fact that their designs don't change too much post-timeskip, but aside from chalking that up to the fact that this timeskip seems relatively minor (probably 3-5 years? Enough for Liko to go through puberty, but not enough to make them all adults) I can't even fully agree with myself here, because the timeskip does bring both Dot and Liko close to their current partners' designs:
Dot gains light blue cables and shoes to compliment Quaxwell's light blue accents (and tones down the green), while Liko gains black sleeves to go with Meowscarada's black much more obvious in the 3D model, but they are in fact black and not dark green accents. Liko also has emphasis taken off her very yellow tote bag and placed onto her neck, which now has a hood surrounding it (like Meowscarada's flower collar).
I seriously think they might've ditched the duck after how badly it flopped and gave Sprigatito to Liko last minute.
It's kind of a stretch, but I'm having a hard time unseeing it. The correlations are so obvious that I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else propose this theory yet. Maybe someone has and I'm just not looking in the right places?
edit even their fucking hair matches up, what the hell? Liko's hair is styled quite similarly to Quaxly's (notable tuft pointing left in the front on the bangs, larger tuft in the back in the shape of a droplet) and Dot has that weird side-tuft thing that Sprigatito has going on with its poorly-drawn fleur-de-lis. Exactly three spikes of hair sticking out near her cheeks, like Sprigatito.
edit 2 I'm losing it
I swear I'm not going insane, look at their designs:
Both of their outfits are tailored to their exact opposite partners.
Dot has:
- two-tone light and dark green in a shade almost identical to Sprigatito
- pink accents (also a very similar shade to Sprigatito)
- a backstory and personality that's very similar to a cat's, being shy and slightly abrasive,
- as well as a tendency to hide herself behind a costume (like Meowscarada does a mask) and has a job explicitly related to trickery in performance (specifically: dressing up in costume) like how Meowscarada is based off of a sort of masked magician
- a majority two-tone blue palette
- with yellow accents
- and a lot of white (main difference is that it's tertiary on Liko but primary on Quaxly, but that's splitting hairs | EDIT: Dot also has Sprigatito's primary palette as her tertiary)
- a rivalry with a fire-type user whom a Quaxly would be useful against
- a more determined personality than Dot (even if she's still pretty naïve and gentle) that would compliment Quaquaval's flamboyance more than it would Meowscarada's general sleaze
The main thing making me hesitate on this theory is the fact that their designs don't change too much post-timeskip, but aside from chalking that up to the fact that this timeskip seems relatively minor (probably 3-5 years?
