I’m reminded of another time TPC made a Pokémon game ostensibly based on a single metropolitan area:
View attachment 7033518
NYC (ACTUAL NYC) was the only thing they got right. The most obvious "wtf" moment being a literal fucking sandstorm desert next to it (which no, isn't a real thing).

The worst offender is Long Island, because it's basically Hoenn Pacifidlog Town 2 Electric Boogaloo. Like, how much of Long Island did they actually travel to, because it's not all JUST beaches and sand and docks and shit.

I love this game, but they could have done better on representing the locations a bit more accurately.

Maybe im more optimistic because I didn’t like X/Y and didn’t even think a Z version would’ve made anything better. Again this is why if they are going to take so long, either show a shit ton or don’t say anything. This game could be awesome but now all we’ve seen is at most the first five minutes of the game and with no idea what we’re even doing here besides sightseeing. This game should’ve had a whole 19 minutes to itself, showing off the story, the gameplay and all that shit. Also why the fuck are those the starters! Arceus had a nice range but two fucking Johto starters? Seriously? Also if those two get new megas and my boy Typhlosion gets nothing I’m going to mace a GameStop employee in the face!
There is zero chance Typhlosion is getting anything for a long time after those recent leaks lmfao
They wanted gen 2 starters but replaced Cyndaquil because it got cancelled.
There you go. Who the fuck even remembers Tepig? Everybody hated that thing for being the third Fire/Fighting starter in the row, should have brought one of the previous two instead.

This whole thing looks so...disappointing, I guess PLA was lighting in a bottle and all future attempts to ape it will be shit. I'm so glad I gave up on official games after USUM and started playing ROMhacks instead.

See, it’s contrivances like this; where they had the initial idea of setting the game in one city without thinking ahead how to organically implement the core game setting of wandering into different locales to find Pokémon, that tells me this game isn’t going to be good.
Did they just kind of cede bits of the city to Pokemon? "Crap they're taking over this area, put up a fence!"

Typhlosion’s not getting anything because it was in the last one, not because of the leaks, don’t be retarded. Looks janky and don’t like the style but that’s just to be expected, biggest thing niggling at me is that weird teleport pad. You want a free-roaming city exploring game where you can run across rooftops and **that’s** the best way you can get players up a building? Assassin’s creed had this perfected twenty years ago.

should have brought one of the previous two instead.
Thry should have done Snivy/Piplup and Torchic or Scorebunny. Cause France.

Heck, SV and LPA showed you how to do that. Give us a mon that can fly and climb.

Kalos border before another new TCG announcement, except this one is for the actual TCG game. Return of megas as ex in 2025. Mega Lucario and Gardevoir announced.
This is something that a lot of us in the TCG scene expected, I guess Owner’s Pokémon won’t be a thing for too long. I’m not seeing a garbage turn-ending mechanic like the one Mega EXs had in Gen 6 but I did see that Mega exs give you three Prize cards for KOing ‘em.
new competitive MOBILE APP (also available on Switch) with SwSh models, seems to be a Stadium successor. Purely competitive. Includes Megas, Tera. Called "Pokemon Champions". "Now in development", developed by The Pokemon Works (planned by GF).
So this is the Pokémon Showdown “killer” huh? It looks interesting but I’ll need more info to make a proper decision on it being shit or not. Also, that bit about “not every HOME being usable in Champions” is probably about regulations and hacks.
This is a biggun so I’ll go with a list.
  • Protagonists are completely different-looking to Serena and Calem, graphics are indeed SV style but dont look so shit.
This doesn’t surprise me, GF tends to stick to some artistic baseline with each Generation.
  • Chikorita, Totodile, Tepig starters, yes really. Makes 0 sense and I'm very confused.
I’m fine with it if I’m being honest, I like two out of the three starters and I’m happy that stupid soccer rabbit got snubbed.
  • Some weird shit to do with teleportation? You get to climb on buildings and glide across them or something.
Pokémon has had warping and teleportation since Gen 1, anyone questioning its presence here is should have their brain checked.
  • Game looks super fucking plastic. Like holy shit I can't get over this, it's like a slighly worse LGPE.
Eh, it’s no more plasticine than SV was.
  • Lots and lots of megas returning.
This doesn’t surprise me, I also wouldn’t be surprised if ORAS’s Megas came back.
  • Younger A-Z with Eternal Floette.
I’ll bring this up in another section why but I don’t think AZ is younger here, he just looks like he decided to stop looking like a damned hobo.
  • Zygarde 10% looking over the city, narration begins
Interesting but not too surprising, you can see a Zygarde Cell in the video too.
  • Patrat confirmed lmaooo
If Patrat can come back then there’s some hope for the return of the elemental monkeys Don’t give me that look, you know you want to see Hot Monkay Dik on the Switch.
  • High-tech redevelopment plan. Prism Tower is already there. Still seems to be set in the past.
The presence of a few things (the warp points, the Rotom Phone hovering, AZ popping up, etc.) tells me that this is set in the modern day.
  • Character designs are fucking ridiculous, one dude has an entire fucking child's head for a hairstyle.
Considering SV’s character design I’m not too surprised by the designs
  • Quasar Inc is who you're working for, I think? Bosses are unrecognizable. New people I think.
Yeah, they’re all new people since this is taking place in the current time. I wouldn’t be surprised of some of them have connections to past characters though.
  • Lumiose has "wild zones", new habitats where Pokemon can thrive.
they look interesting but I’m not a fan of how they’re haphazardly slapped into the street layout. I would’ve liked them to be underground like BDSP’s Pokemon Hideaways were.
  • BATTLES ARE COMPLETELY REAL-TIME. NO TURN-BASED.
This is interesting but like a lot of past spinoff gimmicks I don’t expect this to stick, especially when taking Champions into consideration
  • 0 mention of new mmegas. Only returning ones shown.
This doesn’t surprise me since the trailer we got today should’ve been the one we got last year. Also, unless my memory’s fucked up then Hisuin Decidueye/Typhlosion/Samurott weren’t revealed until the game released. If we do get any new Megas then they’ll be revealed at Worlds this year.
  • Megas have "C+" moves? no idea what that means
It’s probably something similar to PLA’s Agile/Strong Styles.
  • STILL NO DEFINITIVE RELEASE DATE HAHAHAHA, just "late 2025"
I have a feeling that it’ll drops in October or November, that fits the “late” requirement but doesn’t miss out the holiday sales period.
  • Penny phone ring at the end of Z-A announcement, with some weird thing about a "match announcement" or something?
It’s not Penny’s Rotom Phone since it’s in the default case (IIRC Penny uses the Eevee case) but the announcement is interesting since Lumiose Gym is locating inside Lumiose Tower.

TL;DR - the trailer was interesting but it still felt like a teaser trailer.

It’s not about representing things accurately as much as it is making fun and interesting ideas while including nods to what inspired the game world. Which they clearly aren’t pulling off with Z-A, despite having Legebds Arceus to learn from.

My initial opinion of legends ZA from what we've seen so far is pretty underwhelming. Obviously it's not impossible the game can turn out good but it very unlikely, especially since the graphics looks like SV's and probably will run like SV as well. TBF we still don't know that much about the game so who, knows it could turn out great (probably not though).

I've seen a lot of people who are disappointed that ZA is taking place entirely in a city but i'm personally fine with that. I've always wanted a truly urban setting for pokemon. Kinda like the gen 5 games but in a "proper" city. Will the game be as good as gen 5? extremely unlikely.

I'm fine with having "unpopular" starter options like chikorita or tepig but i still would have liked each starter to be from a different gen
Almost every single person is brown, so it's very accurate to modern Paris
You could say it's a FAITHFUL recreation of paris

I wonder if the recent leak came from the same source as the Teraleak. I mean, this is what they didn't want people to see?
I wonder what they have on Gen 10 now, considering that AZ is likely a dud.
Edit: This is giving me flashbacks to Sword Shield lmfao

Palworld about to get a lot more sales when people realize it has more content and is more competently made than the latest serving of Pokemon slop, lmfao

I don't think they care. This is probably a coincidence.

Having no gen 5 remake might have been a blessing. Maybe by the time they decide to work on gen 5 GF would've got their act together and decide to let some other studio take their time with it (specifically take their time), so we don't get another BDSP.

I like how nobody here is even talking about Champions aka Showdown killer
Please, as if. The only problem here is that Gamefreak/TPCi/Nintendo might finally send them a C&D once it releases.

Everyone's so negative, goddamn. The graphics look like PLA, and that's fine. I don't play games for graphics, I play to have fun, and the whole city idea, and what they've shown looks like a big safari zone deal. And that sounds fun!

No giftmons from Champions, not every Pokemon will be in and it looks like there will be rentals. I will bet my left nut they will have pay to win mechanics, such as selling you powerful "legit hack mons" for real money for example. This game is coming out on mobile as well, so everything is on the table.
DOA, unless they shut it down there is absolutely no reason not to just play Showdown. This will also completely kill whatever is left of the online battling scene in the games themselves.
I bet this is the new excuse not to give us anymore Battle Frontier or even Battle Tower BTW, "Just play Champions!"
What a joke.

You can play what you want, but the entire thing looks utterly generic, not just the graphics. I would unironically just play Palworld instead if I had the choice.

First they make the most exclusive restaurant in not-Paris a sushi bar and then they don't even take the opportunity to add in the starter most similar to the Gallic rooster, someone at Gamefreak must have suffered from Paris syndrome to elicit this level of hate.

it seems more like a Pokémon Stadium like than it is something expressly meant for a competitive VGC series.

Alrighty now for my thoughts.
While I am disappointed with the lack of news, I think that is to be expected. It's the 29th year of Pokémon's existence. 30 years next year. They're saving things up for that. 30th anniversaries are a big deal. (let that sink in; Pokemon will be 30 years old this time next year.)

I think ZA does look fun, but with the little amount they showed, I can get why people are concerned or excited. I am excited! Disappointed with the starter selection. BUT I am more than capable of compromising to play a game. I hope they show more soon!
