I'm slightly annoyed that today's demo event was basically nothing. I was hoping to at least get some shitty, cheap item to bring into the full game.

Looking through the Alolan Pokedex again, I realized neither Slugma line nor the Numel line are going to be in the games. A region that is based on a series of volcanic island and appears to have an active volcano area in the trailers doesn't have the four (non-legendary) Pokemon based on volcanoes and lava.
You doing okay, Game Freak?

So I haven't seen this posted yet, found this about a day after Alolan Dugtrio was confirmed.

I'm literally getting a day off from work just to play Pokemon.

I'm honestly more hyped about them bringing back legacy battles like the PWT. Also Red and Blue look like they're college students, how much further in the future is this game?

Grass/Ghost. Didn't see that one coming, but I like it. Mucha Lucha and Based Owl get some pretty nice signature moves. The boring mermaid's move doesn't seem that good.
Incidentally, I don't remember seeing the Grass/Fairy Tapu on the leaked Pokedex.

It was there, They didn't show anything not leaked already, and the national dex leak pretty much confirms we've seen everything.

I wonder if Primarina's signature move will work like Wake-Up Slap, where it removes a specific status condition but deals more damage. It would be a great combo with Scald if that's the case. Given that it's design is inspired by mermaids and sirens, I think it would have made more sense if its signature move was a Water type damage-dealing version of Attract.

Wasn't expecting Owliver Queen to be Grass/Ghost, but I'm not too dejected. El Tigre- I mean Incineroar looks great with its animations and I'm considering choosing it in Moon over Popplio. The mermaid seal is eh; I don't like it but I don't hate it at the same time.

When are they going to give us the types of those so-called, Ultra Beasts?

And what type is Alolan Dugtrio?

Alolan Dugtrio hasn't been revealed yet, I'm guessing Fire/Ground. because the hair looks like pele's hair. aka volcanic glass fibers that you find in hawaii.
They probably won't reveal UB typings (if they ever have any) until the game releases iirc.

Well, Grass/Ghost was a little unexpected, but I ain't mad.
Still like Popplio's final evo, and Litten's final evo has grown on me a bit since seeing it's animations. But Rowlet is still my man so I insist on picking that one.

Don't have too much to say about the Tapu's besides being surprised that the bull-looking one turned out to be part grass. I really thought part fire. And Alolan Persian is now mildly less derpy looking to me since I saw it moving around in the trailer, though I won't be able to resist calling it the name of that grey cat from the Garfield series (I forget the lil' guy's name, but I know Garfield picked on him a lot or something).

I'm liking the final evolutions of the starters, Rowlet's and Popplio's being my favorite. Since I'm planning on getting Moon (maybe Sun as well later down the line), I'm starting off with Popplio. I'm pretty hyped about the Battle Tree, it looks pretty fun for some post-game shenanigans.

I think I've got the four island guardian Pokemon's origins figured out. I mentioned in an earlier post that they seem to be based on the four major Hawaiian gods--Ku, Lono, Kane, and Kinolau--, and that Tapu Koko was the Pokemon equivalent of Ku.

Tapu Bulu appears to represent Lono, the god of music, agriculture, and fertility. The bell on its tail represents music, its Grass typing represents agriculture, and bulls are associated with fertility (at least male fertility) in many cultures. The official site describes that it does not like to fight. This matches with Lono's holiday season Makahiki, a four month harvest celebration during which no war was allowed.

Tapu Fini probably represents Kinolau, the god of the ocean. He is normally depicted as a squid or octopus, but the sailfish design they've given Fini could represent his power over the ocean winds and sailing. Its official description says it protects a purifying water that only those who prove themselves can use. Kinolau was heavily associated with the drink kava, which had many medicinal uses for ancient Hawaiians and was sometimes prohibited to be used by anyone other than kahunas. Fini is also the only Water type of the quartet.

That means Tapu Lele represents Kane, the god of creation and life. This is where things get muddy. Kane brings fresh water and edible plants like taro root, but the Water and Grass typings are already taken by Fini and Bulu. Lele looks like a butterfly but Kane is not associated with butterflies. It could be an allusion to Kane's connection to the sun, sky, and daytime. Kane is also associated with plants as previously mentioned, and butterflies pollinate plants. Lele's healing scales could represent Kane's life-giving powers. Not sure where its Psychic typing comes from. It could refer to the knowledge it took to successfully grow taro roots, or it might just be the old "just make it part Psychic" treatment lots of legendaries get.
