I'm pretty bummed that we've been given few new Poke'mon the past couple generations. 81 is still a good number, yes, but having 100+ brand spanking new Poke'mon just seems more exciting. Still going to enjoy the games fully of course, but it'd be nice if they focused more on actual new Poke'mon and not making different forms of currently existing Poke'mon down the line.

For those of you disappointed by the "low number" of new Pokemon, I direct you to remember the 150 Pokemon added by Gen V. Many people complained that some of the designs were "lazy" or not good; the more designs you introduce the greater likelihood some are going to be shit. While I don't love all of the new Alola Pokemon, none of them stand out as really bad to me. If they did another twenty or thirty designs you would have more "lazy" designs.

[For the record, most of the Unova Pokemon people hate I actually like]

The small amount of new Pokemon in Gen 6 helped clinch it for me that I would not be getting XY.

Disappointing that its happened again, but I don't care.

Because this sweet baby exists. :heart-full:

idk we're getting to kind of batshit levels of pokémon and catching them all is gonna be less and less feasible if they add like 120 every time. Like there's already 800 lmao

I actually hope I do not get the hardware and game itself like a whole year after release. Its about time I actually use online features in Pokemon!

(of course, you'll just have me getting constantly beaten in battles because I've never played with another person)

I like how the characters are a lot more animated. It gives them a lot more personality and charm. That being said, can the Skull grunts chill for a fucking second? Their incessant arm flailing is really distracting and makes reading their dialogue difficult.

I really like the ability to swap a newly caught Pokemon with one of your party Pokemon when your team is full. I hope it's not a demo-exclusive feature because it would really streamline things. No more having to stop what you're doing, run back to the nearest town, go to the Pokemon Center, fiddle with the PC, and THEN swap your new Pokemon with a team member. It's not something I really thought about after playing the series for so many years, but one little change in the demo makes the whole process seem tedious now.

I hate the new Pokemon center music.
I think the first half is fine, maybe a little over complicated but nothing egregious, but then the percussion kicks in the secone half and fucks it up. Is it out of sync or something? It sounds so off to me. If you took out the drums it would be fine all around.

I have no words, listen to the Song of Mimikkyu

[EDIT: Translated Lyrics]
yo yo, listen up, this is Mimikyu's rap!!

I'm not Pikachu, I'm Mimikyu
Shy and lonely Mimikyu

I'm just a little scary.
I love the darkness (pillow) <-Japanese pun

I just wanna be friends with everyone
I'm just imitating Pikachu
This cloth resembles (Pikachu) right?
I made it myself, it's awesome right?

Absolutely do not remove it (the cloth)
If you, you'll get Kursed
I'm not Pikachu, I'm Mimikyu
I'm not a ghost, I'm Mimikyu (Mimikyu's a Ghost/Fairy btw)

I've got huge claws to protect you
I can learn Thunderbolt to protect you
Because it's good to rely on Pokemon
Please let me be your friend

I'm not Pikachu, I'm Mimikyu
Become my friend, I'm Mimikyu
I'm not Pikachu, I'm Mimikyu
Shy and lonely Mimikyu

I'm not Pikachu, I'm Mimikyu
I'm not a ghost, I'm Mimikyu
I'm not Pikachu, I'm Mimikyu
Become my friend, I'm Mimikyu

It's just too different IMHO. It's a song that most Millenials know, and its remained pretty much the same, just remixed for decades now. Why change it?

The Pokecenter theme just sounded so offbeat with the drums for the first few seconds and then it went back to normal. I honestly thought it was a glitch.

I finally played the demo and wow, I'm so freaking hyped for these games! Some thoughts...
  • I think the player's mom is a native Alolan, judging by her appearance and her knowledge of Alolan culture.
  • The graphics are stunning. I especially like how the 3D models are full-sized now as opposed to the more chibi forms in Gen VI.
  • Team Skull is amazing. I can't remember the last time I've loved a villainous team this much.
  • Really digging the new Pokemon Center design.
  • Trials are pretty cool. I definitely appreciate the different gameplay elements.
  • That trailer at the end made me even more hyped if that were possible.
Just four more weeks!

It's a completely minor feature but I love that opponents have models that are shown behind the opposing pokemon.

So I found out about two more events in the Sun and Moon demo.

Today I ran into Lillie while heading towards Ten Carat Hill. She's making mention of the beautiful view looking out to the sea (she's by the rails facing the ocean on the left when you're heading for the hill) and her bag moves. You talk to her, but she just kinda runs off in a hurry.

I didn't experience it myself, but I guess there's a little event with Hau as well, where he takes you to the Malasada shop to eat a Malasada.

They aren't much of anything, just interesting little events.

EDIT:

Also, if you make your character spin in a circle fast enough, he does a pirouette.

Team Skull are like the whitest people trying to be black ever but considering they're supposed to be a more familiar American gangster from da hood it'd probably be found offensive if they were made to be black in a game that doesn't really have any other black people in it

I like that at least there seem to be some Hawaiian people around, and there seems to be a lot more detail in these games than in any other generation.

I will Reeee though if they don't bring back sitting down.
