Alot say 3D killed Pokemon.

NO! THE JUMP TO HOME CONSOLE KILLED POKEMON!

Mainline Pokemon should have stay as handheld games.
With the end of the 3DS and the jump to console it really shows Game Freak lack the experience in making large scale console games ala Zelda or Pikmin 4.

Not only that it really show some of the cracks GF has while there still in handhelds, ( can't optimise , cutting some features , etc. ), blown full force with there console mainline games.

At least with there handhelds you can excuse some flaws due of being handhelds but with home consoles not so much.

Mainline Pokemon are one of those series that should've stay as handhelds only games not every games series are suited for home consoles.

With the 3DS gone the whole handheld games genre are either mobile games or ports of GBA/DS/3DS games to home console, PC and some mobile device.
I'm not counting Switch as a handheld since its home console first while the steam deck is just a way to play PC games on the go.
Both are not dedicated handhelds like the DS family lines.

If Nintendo create some successor for the 3DS then the mainline Pokemon will be at least decent.

There home console mainline games feel like there just badly ported 3DS games and it might be true all of them feel like GF was forcing it to be to be a home console game when they in reality there just badly optimised 3DS ports.

You can see in there GB, GBA, DS and even 3DS they know how to make proper mainline Pokemon even with the 3DS ones are slightly rough around but still decent but unlike with SWSH and SV.

Both SWSH and SV feel like it should have been in the 3DS, (or some successor to it), alot of there gameplay I watch feel like it should been better with 2 screens in mind some of the gym test in SV especially should be in 3DS.

GF should have stay in making handheld mainline pokemon games while the console one should been for spinoffs or those play different than the traditional mainline like LGPE and Legends.

TLDR: Mainline Pokemon should have stay in handhelds only.
A lot of th is just you repeating the same argument over and over again.

lol at the niggas seething over the new paradox mons. I realize this might come off as a hot take, but the legendary beast trio were always trash designs, just weird-ass cats/dogs with colored shit stuck to them.
I'm not as autistic about this franchise as some of the people ITT are, so I'm not gonna sit here and act like this direct and SV in general are LE END OF THE FRANCHISE... LE POKEMON COMPANY HAS FALLEN. They're fine games, even if they have undeniable issues of their own. And I will die on this hill, so fuck you.
That cartoon about the card game or whatever looks like visual AIDS though, idk what they were thinking with that

The Pokémon World Championship finished up the last of the VGC matches, and here are the winners for their games and respective divisions:

UNITE: Luminosity Gaming (US)

GO: ItsAXN (US)

TCG:

Juniors: Shao Tong Yen (TW)
Seniors: Gabriel Fernandez (BR)
Masters: Vance Kelley (US)

The TCG matches were all very exciting to see, even though I don't know a thing about the TCG.

VGC:

Juniors: Sora Ebisawa (JP)
Seniors: Tomoya Ogawa (JP)
Masters: Shohei Kimura (JP)

And Japan clean sweeps all three VGC divisions, in dominating fashion, and in their home country too.

Congratulations to our winners!

I’ve done some more digging and the VGC DQs are happening in greater numbers due to TPCi doing storage box checks in addition to Battle Box checks (as opposed to only the latter being done) and hack checks seeing if any Pokémon that require a Home flag actually have ‘em.

So basically the bans are due to people not being smart about the PC storage and competitors using “Home-transferred” Pokémon that were actually injected into SV directly.

Some people are also considering not competing this coming season because of the harsher hack checks. There's only one way to describe the emotions I'm feeling in regards to that and it's in the form of this JonTron reaction...

The ending ceremony takes place in about 5 minutes, we'll see if anything new pops up then.

EDIT: Unite news appeared to be a recap of what was already revealed, TCG news revealed Paradox 'mons functioning in a similar manner to Team Plasma Pokémon (with Scarlet Paradox 'mons being labeled as Past Pokemon and Violet Paradox 'mons being labeled a Future Pokémon) coming in Paradox Rift and the return of ACE SPEC cards next year. Main game news included revealing that you can catch past starter Pokémon in The Indigo Disk, more information about Raging Bolt/Iron Crown, and teasing a new Tera Type that's more than likely associated with Terapagos. And finally next year's World Championships will be held in Honolulu people. And yes, people are pointing out the irony/tone-deafness of announcing this after the recent Maui wildfires. They also immediately announced that they'll be donating 200k to a Maui wildfire relief fund seconds after posting the location announcement on Twitter.
I was thinking of getting a lost origin booster box and ETB but will just hold off.
I did see obsidian flames but thought it was out already because of how many people got cards early. Charizard cards feel like a forced meme with how many con artists of all stripes and actual money launderers flock to them and didn’t care for the Charmander on the ETB.
Those early cards were from prereleases, so they were sold early in the technical sense.

As far as people not caring about he Charmander ETB it's in part due to Obsidian Flames being a doo-doo set in terms of competitive viability and somewhat mediocre in terms of collectability. You're better off waiting for 151 when it's released in September or Paradox Rift which drops in November.

The TCG deck that won Masters was Mew VMAX (a deck I genuinely thought wouldn't do well at Worlds), Seniors was won by Lugia VSTAR (with an Archeops as the winner's Active Pokemon too, but the win was obtained via smart scooping), while Juniors was one by Lost Box (a deck that's really annoying but requires a lot of smart plays to do well with it and to counter it).

The making of Paradox Raikou, lore-wise

Legends Arceus is decent and has some difficulty. Pretty empty for such a big region but felt like a new experience and the interaction with the wild pokemon is very intuitive, the stealth mechanics are alot of fun and the battle system is a little different, that makes it more dynamic.
Also the announced Stadium 2 VC Version.

@Archeops Brilliant recap man much appreciated since now I don't need to read pokebeach. As for Obsidian Flames, it's such a non-set. There is nothing really even good in it, even Tera Zard is iffy because of his typing and it not fitting in a fire deck properly.

At this point, with the TCG it is nothing but continual nostalgia baiting to keep older people playing with member berries. Honestly, Lugia Vstar broke me, I have a few regional tops during different years. Lugia VS is a card so broken and warping of the game, locals basically became either playing Lugia or Pikachu Flying before rotation then Lightning booster.deck.

Gardevoir Ex is just shitty Gardevoir EX of the past but with worse items. I was one of the first few who noticed the power of that deck as our locals were dominated by Rayquaza so I brewed and then talked to a few others and here we are. It was insanely consistent, well-prepared, and hit very hard and it required insight into the next few turns. I hate the new one because it feels like a shitty version trying to emulate it, a perversion of a really fun deck

I think you said it actually but energy acceleration killed the game similar to MTG because it changes fundamentals but also deck design. It also fucks over future set design because you have to out creep power creep. When Yu gi oh is better in that regard, you know you are in trouble.

Pokemon Company knows the older players are the whales and not the children, so will do anything to keep them. Nostalgia always works because unfortunately, the masses don't realize it is used to cover up a drain in creativity.

@Scream Aim Fire Honestly just Arceus or Unite, Unite is LOL light and chill but Arceus is actually experimental and whilst needing more work is still the best Pokemon game in years.

Are there any Pokémon games for the Switch worth picking up? I've got Pokken Tournament; I find it to be fun, personally. Are there any others that you guys might suggest?
Honestly? No. Nothing mainline, and barely anything spin-off.
The closest I can get to recommending a Switch Pokemon game is saying that Legends Arceus does something different that you may or may not like, and I still really wouldn't recommend paying full price for it. PMD DX is only debatably better than its 20-year-old progenitors, every single mobile game has been ported very poorly (UNITE especially) since they want to make their real audience (mobile gamers) very clear to the Switch so that they change over, and games like New Snap or Pikachu Returns either aren't out yet or have issues with filler clogging up gameplay.

Seriously though, either Legends Arceus or New Snap or nothing at all. Neither are worth 60 bucks, but they make for a few good hours of fun.

re: vidya news
I'm not surprised that they're locking starters and all this OP shit behind DLC ("lmao what if we made a priority move that out-priorities the priority moves and also 100% flinches"- thank god this fails against normal moves) but honestly I'm glad to see everything else. More hard-to-get Pokemon being available more frequently is (almost) always a good thing (the only example I can think of where this is a bad idea is with shiny pokemon for very obvious reasons). I still don't know why TPC is so insistent on calling Starters "first partners", it's very awkward, but I guess it's a marketing thing...

The typings for both Paradoxes was... somewhat expected? Electric/Dragon was a shoe-in (even though idk why they're adding so many this gen), Steel/Psychic slightly less-so. That design seemed more pure-Steel or Steel/Water to me, but I guess I should've known better since every other Paradox has 2 typings.

"Legends Plate" Tera typing is cheap and dumb but once again expected as a marketing stunt and a natural progression of the power creep. Interestingly enough, I might actually be off-base calling it that? In this screenshot you can see that when Tera'd it doesn't change Tera Blast to be Super Effective, so maybe it's something else...?

Whatever it is, I think it's more than blatantly obvious that it has to do with Terapagos, so I doubt it'll be much of a thing in Teal Mask. I'm curious but unenthused. Hard not to be when I can't bring myself to care about much beyond true excellence or grave disappointments regarding this franchise by now but oh well lol.

Anybody want to start taking bets on how they screw up a potential Paradox Entei? Or do you think it might buck the trend and be genuinely great?

Also on the subject of Paradoxes, what 'mons would you guys like to see get Paradox forms? I'd like to see:

Past Paradox
  • Victreebel
  • Dusclops
  • Vigiroth
  • Walrein
  • Dragapult
  • Heracross
  • Chandelure

Future Paradox
  • Yanmega
  • Dragalge
  • Snorlax
  • Cofagrigus
  • Houndoom
  • Aerodactyl
  • Trevenant

please no, it's one of the only legendaries I really really like :(
then again, considering Walking Wake isn't a total travesty, it might be alright...?

I actually ran a survey on which Paradox Formes others would like, since I plan on putting some in my hack. https://kiwifarms.pl/threads/pokemon-not-so-griefing-thread.72/page-745#post-13748073
My wishes are a Past Gengar, Alakazam (because of the Ancient Mystery of Pokeopolis, since Jigglypuff already has a Past Paradox Forme), and Unsparce (since Dunsparce have a Pokédex entry about how they were able to fly in the past).
By coincidence, I already was going to put a past Dragapult and a future Yanmega in my hack because of the survey. I was also going to put a past Victreebell because of your esponse in the survey, bu the new reveals and my wish of a past Dunsparce mean that I ended up cutting the Victreebell ine.
(I kinda wan to pu the line back, especially since I want another Poison Stone user, though...)

Someone earlier in the thread suggested a potential Paradox Entei could be based on a triceratops. That design could work for him if pulled off right.
That was @Bunny Tracks' worry.
Edit: Calling it now. Entei's form is going to be some sort of horrifying triceratops, pterodactyl, or hadrosaurid (duck-billed) abomination.

Thinking about it, since Croconaw has a sort of "cavveman tunic" design on it's torso, a past Paradox Feraligatr could be a great design. Also Feraligatr is one of my favorite starter lines and I'd like to see it get some more recognition.

never again will I try to quantify how much I like one generation compared to another via this type of autism

I saw people unironically say long Raikou was stolen off fan design, and this is why a lot of popular ideas can not become canon: GF will get into trouble for design theft.
The more fangames with Coolass Mcdragon, the less of those could become canon.
This is why I dread coming across good-looking original Kyurems, I'm already mentally preparing for the fact that the official original dragon is going to suck ass like Origin Palkia and Dialga.

Putting Serperior and Ho-Oh that low should be a crime, but I'm glad someone hates Baxcalibur the Spore creature as much as I do.
