The second Pokémon TCG set, Scarlet & Violet: Paldea Evolved, was just released yesterday and the 6 most expensive card in the set are...

I can't say I'm too surprised by Iono taking the first two spaces but I'm shocked to see that the Illustration Rare Magikarp and Tyranitar are that much. I expected Dendra and Chien-Pao to go for their respective amounts, Chien-Pao is a decent attacker with a nice Ability that pairs well with another Ability-powered Energy accelerator released in this set (Baxcalibur) while Dendra is largely based on the usual waifu tax.

Oh, and even though we're only two sets into Scarlet & Violet I'm really pleased to not see any cards over going for hundreds of dollars like some of the secret-rares did during the SWSH era.

The Pokémon TCG Live app also dropped the set on Thursday. The new battle pass includes two new free decks (Chien-Pao ex/ Baxcalibur and you also get Forretress ex/Ambipom) and the notable freebies are more Chein-Pao ex, Wo-Chien ex (which you presumably swap out the Ambipom lines in the free deck for), a Shaymin V/VSTAR set, and a Secret Illustration Rare Iono.

It never occurred to me it might be fur.
How would that work with Iron Tail though?

Could be worse, Energy Cards could cost 40 bucks a pop.

Source: I play Magic and lands are always the most expensive bullshit in a deck.

PS : The Pokemon TCG is weird, Ya'll let Trubish just be a thing for years.

Funny you should mention that, there are some Energy cards that sell for a pretty penny but that's only because they're holos/reverse-holos from older sets or they're promos.

I remember that one, that was fun deck since you could KO some EXs with very little effort thanks to Siglyph. And we can't talk about Trubbish without bringing up the annoyance that was Garbotoxin Garbodor.
I managed to use up my old passcode cards in the new Pokémon Card Online.
Most of the cards worked as-is, bu the starter decks from old out-of-rotation sets got me 25 coins, instead.
That's probably due to the products not being available in Live. Now you've got me worried over my excess League codes...

Maybe it was Garbodor I was thinking of, whatever it was that let you Draw two and discard two every turn.

As a Magic Player the fact that thing existed and was just allowed to run free every turn astounds me, Just doing that effect once or twice broke formats.

Garbotoxin Garbodor didn't do that, it disabled all Abilities (except Garbotoxin) if a Tool card was attached to it.

As far "discard X amount of cards from your hand, if you do draw Y amount of cards" effects goes there are a few Pokémon that come to mind.
  1. Claydol (Diamond & Pearl: Great Encounters, its Poké Power let you put up to two cards from hand into the bottom of your deck and draw cards until you have 6 cards in your hand)
  2. Ninetails (HeartGold & SoulSilver, Discard a Fire Energy from your hand and draw three cards)
  3. Empoleon (Black & White: Dark Explorers, discard a card from your hand and draw two cards)
  4. Zoroark-GX (Sun & Moon: Shining Legends, same effect as Empoleon)
  5. Cinccino (Sword & Shield, same effect as Empoleon)
  6. Radiant Greninja (Sword & Shield: Astral Radiance, similar to the previous three but the card you discard has to be an Energy card)
I'm 99% sure I'm missing a couple of cards and this doesn't go into Pokémon that draw from the deck in general or mess around with your deck.

What as the thing that let you loot every turn that Dominated Standard a couple of years ago then? I could have sworn it was a Trubbish/Garbodor card.

That might've been Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX, it's Ability lets you attach a Basic Psychic Energy from your hand to one of your Benched Psychic Pokémon and draw 2 cards if you do. There's also Zacian V: that one lets you look at the top three cards of your deck, attach any Basic Metal Energy you find there to it, and puts the leftover cards into your hand at the cost of ending your turn.

Outside of that and possibly Oranguru, the best cards I can think of are Zoroark-GX and Minccino.

Still have no idea how to play this fucking TCG and the general playerbase is awful and autistic as fuck in my experience. Convinced most of the ones shilling it are bots.

Why does seemingly every card post B/W have some form of "look through your deck and pick the card you want"? That's just a broken version of "scry" from Magic.

Eh, playerbase-wise it's better than a good amount of the other sections of sanctioned competitive Pokémon (VGC's section and its hack issues, GO's section and the sheer amount of whaling that puts whatever amount the other scenes to shame, Unite's section and whatever the fuck goes on there because keeping up with MOBAs is a thankless task, and the now-defunct Pokken scene having weirdos topping tournaments for more furry porn).

As far as playing goes it's best to pay attention to tournament streams, you learn a lot about the wider meta and see what works and what doesn't.

Oh, and it's worth paying attention to Japanese tournaments as well since they tend to be a preview for what's could good in the coming months. Except for this tournament, Fusion Strike Mew VMAX (a deck archetype that's been around since Late 2021) ended up winning the whole thing despite a couple of new cards being printed in recent sets as hard counters to it. Heck, one of 'em (in this case the Spiritomb the guy on the left puts into play at the 10:02:18 mark, it's Ability causes all Basic Pokémon V to lose their Abilities) is actually used in this video and it gets countered in turn via the Special Energies the guy on the right accelerates via one of the card he plays.
power creep
Yeah, and it's not just from boosting HP and damage to obscene levels. It's also from introducing ways to bypass certain limitations, the most noticeable one being Energy acceleration (attaching more than one Energy per turn and occasionally attaching it from areas other than the hand).

Thanks for the quick rundown of the current scene.

Still trying to find my old binder of pokemon cards just to see what I had.

I'm getting back into collecting Pokémon cards but only the cards with art that I really like, will the new Magikarp go up in price or will it go down once the new wears off?

Does anyone know any good places to buy old cards? I'm hesitant to use eBay because of scammers.

How does shiny hunting work in BDSP for pal park legendaries? Yes I know this is late.

I saved after running away from one after months of soft resetting every few days to no avail. Are they stuck as a non-shiny legendary now?

Looks like 1/4096, shiny charm only works for eggs, and lolpokeradar

and hopefully this makes you feel better this guy got a shiny suicune in 7 hours and 55 minutes hopefully you have an audience to keep you entertained...
I did get a shiny Latios in 2 hours. Just no luck with shiny Latias. Had only heard either "idk, never shiny hunted ramanas park" or "odds reset every time you leave".

Dont know if its like shiny hunting roaming legendaries and locks it to non shiny in your save after seeing it once in your pokedex AND saving because you just wanted to play the game again and caught some other pokemon like shiny beldum. You cant leave the room without KOing or running away from the legendary after activating the statue and saving. They will still be there until you catch them. You will just need to get another slate which I already have.

Does anyone else get creepy MTF vibes from melli from arcues? He makes my skin crawl.

I don't tend to "react" strongly to this type of character, I'm hardly transphobic by kiwi standards (I used to lurk for years before making this account and generally think the site went schizo about trannies ever since the "war" with keffals) and I'm not creeped out by flamboyant gay guys but for whatever reason this npc feels eeugh and puts me on edge.

Anyone else?

Obviously the the character is supposed to be cocky and annoying but probably not intended to be creepy.
