I was always hoping for Swampert to have Huge Power as its hidden ability. It seemed to make sense given how the Pokedex always talks about Swampert's strength (or swimming speed).

Anyways, I was hoping to buy the game right now, but I keep hearing about the performance issues and screenshots of the shitty graphics, so I don't know. I skipped out on SH/SW but was interested in Gen 9's potential.

My switch is only a year old, and I only have some minor pop in and lag issues.

Also from what I can tell most of the Issues seem to come from a memory leak, so if you actually fully shut the game down when you're not playing it, it seems to be a lot more stable than if you keep it running in the background.

It's almost impressive how you take the idea of 'pokemon future vs pokemon past' and manage to fuck up almost every design of these hypothetically cool pokemon variants.

A bunch of good ideas fucking squandered.

Speak for yourself. I love every single one of them. Granted all of the future ones being robots is a tired concept.

After the Finn-style sandwich-eating became widely spread, many people wished that Pokémon go back to sprites.
I concluded that would require a full-on demake.

Apparently, I was no the only one. Redbregade05 is making one:

I then thought about doing demakes of the other 3D games, but some already had the same idea.
Someone already converted th entire Sword & Shield games, including DLC places, to a playable 2D ROM: https://whackahack.com/juegos/pokemon-espada-y-escudo-gba/
Someon else is converting X and Y: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonROMhacks/comments/ynxqq5/pokémon_xy_gba_demake_new_screenshots_06th/

I guess that leaves Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon to me... if I ever get around to that.

I'm about halfway through and I haven't had any wild shit happen. The memory leak is annoying and wild mons will spawn inside walls sometimes but I haven't seen any T-posing or had my mons clip through the floor in battle. Haven't had any crashes either. Not to say they don't happen to other people though.
I had one crash last night but maybe that's because I spent almost the entire day playing. It was one of those rare Saturdays where I had nothing else going on and was able to have the entire day to myself

So who did everyone pick as their starter in S/V? The only correct answer is Fuecoco btw.
fuecoco every single fucking time, all day, every day. i originally wanted weedcat, but tbh the final evolution is disappointing and its hidden ability, protean, has been nerfed HARD. not that starters can get their hidden abilities, but whatever. and the water starter becomes a literal whatthefuck. the kinda shitty thing with fuecoco's typing is that, if you played legend of arceus, the hisuian variant of typhlosion is also fire/ghost, so the typing is repetitive, but sometimes shit be that way.

my fuecoco is a girl. very kawaii.

i'm still at the beginning of the game, putzing around. seeing if i can find a shiny early-game while grinding some levels. i don't have any permanent party pokemon atm except fuecoco. usually i can kinda plan out what party i want, but i'm pretty uninspired rn tbh.

Did you close and restart the game to reset the memory leak at all? I've been doing that every few hours, may have something to do with it.

yeah, I wasn't aware that I actually had to close it, I misunderstood and thought that just putting my Switch to sleep would be enough.

Anyway. does anyone know why my Tropius is disobeying me despite the fact that he didn't come from a trade and is at a lower level than all my other Pokemon? I noticed that he has the "somewhat stubborn" characteristic, is that why? Because Bulbapedia doesn't say anything about those characteristics affecting anything other than IVs

Pokemon obedience seems to work differently in this game. Instead of all Pokemon you personally catch obeying you, all Pokemon you catch will obey you so long as they were caught or obtained below or at the max level set based on the gym badges you have. For example, if you don't have any gym badges, I believe Pokemon you catch up to level 20 will obey you. If you catch a Starly at level 17, it will obey your commands. If you raise it to level 21 or higher, it will still obey you because you obtained it under level 20. If you then catch a level 22 Gible, it won't obey you till your first badge when that threshold is increased to 25.

If you're planning on doing the Pokemon League last but still want to work certain Pokemon in your team, it's best to catch a Ditto or male and female of what you want to use and just breed and hatch an egg. All hatched Pokemon are obtained at level 1 and thus will be loyal to you.

I caught an Adamant Tinkatink at like level 11 and I've been using just that Pokemon's line to sweep through the game. Did you know there are a shit ton of exp and rare candies strewn about the map? I was able to fully ev train it, and between some manual training and candy usage, I was able to raise it to level 68 before knocking out a single team Star Base, Titan or Gym badge.

As of now, I've completed both the Titan and Team Star storylines, the Ice, Ghost, Normal and Water Gyms. I'm definitely doing everything out of order.

Edit: I obtained German Ditto from a user I met in a Youtube stream of the game. I'm doing about 20 Masuda Quaxly eggs for a chance at one of them being a shiny so if anyone wants one for the Pokedex entry, hit me up. Hatched Fuecoco and Sprigatito or Scarlet exclusives would be much appreciated.

Characteristics have never affected anything about a Pokemon, besideds it's IVs
Also, stop using Tropius. It's a shitmon
@Ilikeoreos don't listen to this elitist, he knows nothing about having an appreciation for shitmons

a lot of my favorite pokeymans are shitmon, but idc, i'll raise the greatest shitmon to ever shit

yeah, but once PER BATTLE? not maybe once per switch-in?
When I saw that I had to do a double take. Once per match completely destroys the utility of the ability, especially with Terastalizing being a thing. It's was definitely an OP and nearly broken ability, but as you said, once per switch-in would of been a reasonable nerf. From one of, if not THE best ability in the game, to one that's almost entirely worthless, just by adding a few words.

It's always Hit and Miss with you GF, you never choose the middle ground. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they nerfed it THIS hard to put more focus on Tera forms than for balance sake, since Protean is pretty much a Tera 3.0 in it's original state. Still isn't fair to essentially nuke the ability from orbit like that.

The lack of characters designed by Ken Sugimori this time around is really weird. The characters not looking like Pokemon characters really takes some getting used to. Little things bug me, like changing how names are (selectively) displayed. Fuckhead the Janny, for instance. But, Pokemon Trainer and Hitchhiker still come before the name. The school setting is just diet Persona, right down to classes and tests. I can get why JRPGs that don't sell gangbusters took a page out of that formula, but Pokemon really didn't have to. Stakes feel pretty low overall here too. The villain teams just kinda get lamer and lamer and stop being real threats after Team Flare for some reason. Badges beimng required to make all Pokemon obey and not just traded ones is kinda lame. Makes me feel kinda pressed to get the Gyms out of the way so I can level up without worry.

Overall though, I'm liking the game a lot more than I expected to. Exploration and movement is pretty fun. There's a good amount of variety of Pokemon. I like the attempt at non-linearity. They should've made gyms/Titans/Team Star scale in level to you to really go all in on that., but it's nice to be able to just fuck off and go wherever. Terastalizing, while retarded looking, is actually a pretty fun mechanic. Not quite as cool as Mega Evolutions were, but being able to potentially change types adds a lot to shake things up. The music is pretty good, but most of the games have good music. Aside from that Toby Fox one. Can't say I'm a fan of his musical stylings.

Pretty good overall. Should have had another couple months in the oven for some bug fixes and whatever. I'd say a solid 6/10, could definitely have skewed higher if the game didn't crash on me a couple of times.
