If there's multiplayer, does that mean you can have four trainers on the same save file for four players, or is that online still for four different Switches? If it's the former, then thank God, my brothers and I have been wanting something like that for a long long time.

Otherwise I'm still kinda meh about this. The starters are adorable, the other Pokémon I'm just not feeling a thing although Lechonk's name made me go "wut". The Legendaries must be like Reshiram and Zekrom 2.0 in terms of theming.

I hate how Pokémon has been using memes in their games for awhile now. First "Hangry Mode", now Lechonk. Almost guranteed to age poorly. What's next, a Pokémon based off of Big Chungus?
There's also Buzzwole, (swole), but that one I can kinda defend because it's such a showboating gym rat like Pokemon. "Hangry Mode" makes me legitimately cringe and if I'm recalling correctly it doesn't even have an effect outside of making Morpeko look even more unappealing than it already is.

I feel obligated to point out, despite my own love of Digimon, that there’s something like 10 literal reskins of Agumon alone.

Say what we will about the Pika Clones, Pokémon hasn’t gone full Lazy Recolour on Pokémon Designs, not counting Shinies…
Are you sure about that? how about the same type of pokémon? The Ratata's types, the bug's types the birds types all in the first route. I only played up to Gen 4 but I still remember the lazy types. And even watching this trailer, they still keep doing it.
And for Digimon, the skins are fine, if you look the number of digimon, it far surpass the number of digimons, and even then, they are actually kinda doing the same too with the regional variants. So your version X-Antibody of a digimon ends up kinda being the same but with more interesting details. Even other silly derivations like water, fire, steel versions of a same digimon is still only a small piece of the number of different digimons that exists in various types.

Sounds to me like Digimon is more your cup of tea than Pokemon. The design philosophy that you're complaining about has been prevalent in Pokémon since it's inception.

Not to mention that you're seemingly forgetting that Pokemon also have Monsters based on Inanimate objects and cultures like Aegislash the living sword and shield or Jinx and Froslass that are based on Japanese Yokai.
I always liked the object based ones like Magnemite and Rotom in favour of animal + theme, It reminds me of those yokai that haunts objects. The animal type is just... boring. How many different birds (Normal) will we get? How many frogs and toads (water)?
And this is just talking about monster designs, if we go to gameplay, the content gets even more dull

it indirectly changes the typing of its signature move.
Ya know, that would actually be a pretty decent niche ability considering Aura Wheel is 110 power... If it wasn't on a garbage meme Pokemon with abysmal stats. It has decent attack and speed, but its others stats kinda make a "turn by turn" basis ability pretty useless when you're gonna be hard pressed to keep it alive more than 1 turn without a sash.

Hard Disagree, but you do you.
I completely agree. I don't think every Pokemon should be designed to appeal to everyone. I think Sprigatto is very bland and generic and is 4th place in my choice of Starters, but a lot of people love them and I'm ok with that.

It's the complete blanket bias against all Pokemon not made after X Gen as not being Pokemon that I think its bullshit.

Except for Ultra Beasts, but they in story aren't Pokemon to begin with(at least thats how I took Sun and Moon)

The new legendaries look like they are gonna transform into motorcycles or something. That would be badass.
I think it likely that will be how we travel long distances quickly in game.

-Obligatory “Pokémon Battles on Motorcycles!” joke goes here-

Sure, we have a bunch of Pokémon with the same schtick - Normal/Flying Bird, Normal type rodent, the various insects, etc. And sure, a lot of them might as well be Pokédex Filler for how often any of them get used now that HM’s aren’t a thing anymore. It’s arguably the biggest downside of making Pokémon look like things you’d fund in nature, at least before we get into some of the weirder Pokémon (eandom example - Eiscue). It makes some sense to have different designs of the same typings depending in the region - you aren’t going to find the exact same creatures everywhere in the world

And as someone who loves Digimon, I’m not above calling out slapping a literal recolour on an existing Digimon and calling it New as not being lazy - again, 10 different Agumon Reskins (at least ToyAgumon has a gimmick in it’s design…).

I liked how Oras integrated Latios and Latias for flying so I wouldn't mind this.

Also like Toby Fox doing music. But I don't like the graphics and how their artistic direction seems to be "lazy" (and I wonder how much of Gamefreak's incompetence will be excused by muh switch low specs) and Pokemon fans have been burned by Gamefreak enough times that you won't see me buying this on launch. Hopefully it's good but it's Pokemon so I'm leaning more towards being disappointed by the end product.

While SwSh was definitely less than should be accepted in graphics, I think the game should maintain a cartoon feel. I'd be find going back to completely sprite based games, I really don't want to see realistic 'mons in the games like the movie had. Design wise I think the world looked great in SwSh, but the corner cutting in implementing it was at times egregious.

Yeah, I didn't really have a solution to disliking the graphics or finding them lazy. But I do wish Pokemon would push the cartoony style instead of feeling held back by either minimalism or realism. My favorite look for mainline Pokemon games was BW where they took full advantage of having 2d sprites in an environment with 3d graphics.

Gen 5 was the single best gen in the series. As a big time gen 2 dicksucker I have to admit it.
