I love how this thread basically became a shitty Pokemon designs bashing thread and I can't help, but feel that my comment indirectly started this.
Since this thread keeps bumping, I had another thing I was thinking about for a long while.

Has it been mentioned on the thread how the Pokemon starters are slowly becoming less and less authentic each generation?
Literally each time a new set of starters is revealed, they look like they were fakemons made for a rom hack or fangame, the worst examples being gen 5 and gen 7, damn they were all fucking ugly. The design for Torracat and the name given to Incineroar quite literally came from deviantart after all. Gen 9 is no different, why are they all looking like they were OCs stolen from deviantart?
Also I think this trend started from as far back as gen 4, but especially now the new starters look even more random as shit. There's no cohesive art direction at Game Freak, it's actually impressive in itself.

Nothing in Gen 5 looks as fucking ridiculous as Duraludon, Blipbug, Eiscue, or Calyrex.
If you're talking shitty designs, I'm surprised you left out Stonjourner, that one's somehow worse than all of the four you mentioned combined.
It's a monumental failure on every front - the concept is dumb, the execution is terrible, it's somehow both bland and ugly at the same time, and it legitimately looks more like a D-list character from a Mario RPG than a Pokemon.

I wouldn’t say it looks ridiculous though, and there are plenty of other designs that are just objects with a face.

Still not as bad as this:

This is still got to be the ugliest Pokemon design I’ve ever seen, I can’t actually believe it’s real, it looks like a fan made 2008 design from a 15 year old drew it. I understand that it must be extremely difficult to come up with new designs with nearly 900 different designs but they really are scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Shape up Game freak.
I think her animal form is probably the worst thing I've ever seen.

Still not my least favorite design. That honor goes to that garbage ice cube penguin.

I respect it commits to its whole snapping turtle/snake chimera thing as terrible as it is.

Its not nearly as dumb or redundant as horse dialga. That is the worst design they've ever made and it doesn't even commit to fully being a horse version of a 4 legged time traveling lizard.

I think the concept of a stonehenge pokemon had a lot of promise, but the execution was horribly fumbled.
I respect it stays with its whole snapping turtle/snake chimera thing.

I think horse Palkia looks worse than horse Dialga. I mean they're both weird, but while horse Dialga looks like a pointy horse that's eternally choking, horse Palkia looks like they just took its top half, slapped it onto the neck of a pink horse and cut off its arms for no reason.

Horse Palkia's design looks like a half assed kitbash of the normal form's head and shoulders with a generic horse mesh they had lying around.

The Kami Quartet's Therian forms are based off of the Four Symbols:

-Tornadus: Suzaku (a Pheonix)
-Thundurus: Seiryu (a Dragon)
-Landorus: Byakko (a Tiger)
-Enamorus: Genbu (a Tortoise, often depicted as having a snake for a tail)

I think her animal form is probably the worst thing I've ever seen.

To be fair to Enamorus’ Therian Forme is, as @Green's Harbinger and @Dunsparce pointed out, it’s based off of Genbu in order to follow rest of the Kami quadrio.

Well, that and it also takes inspiration from softshell turtles, those guys can get really weird. 1009C6DF-22CC-45AC-B1A7-022B3E56A97D.jpeg

I'm aware. I just think she still looks like shit, not because of the fact that she's a turtle/snake hybrid but because they way its presented is just hideous and they could've done a better job of making both her forms not look like shit. Even her hair in the turtle form looks lame. Even real softshells are more pleasant to look at.

With how buff the genies are, I'm just shocked and disappointed they tried for a more androgynous form and yet still failed. You know they were literally scared to put any hint of boobs or curves on that thing when they decided Enamorus was going to be a female genie except not really because Legendary Pokémon need to be genderless except when they're not.

The Therian form is still hideous because it makes me think of the bully dogs and I can't unsee that horror. (I know tortoises are stocky but those legs in the 3D model aren't built for holding that body up and so it might as well just be floating at that point if it already doesn't.)

As much as I love penguins, Eiscue greatly disappoints me. The Pokédex says that it's face is adored but I don't get why.
Piplup > Eiscue

Former is a penguin with a kid's tuxedo while the latter could be a literal penguin if you remove the cube.

Galarians are britbongs and their champion is a streetshitter.

I always thought Duraldon was a electric lighter.

When I first saw Duraldon, I thought it looked like an inhaler.
It feels like something that SHOULD be adorable/work but just doesn't. It's the most basic interpretation of a "cute lil ice cube penguin aww" concept and comes across as ugly instead. Imo the "noice face" version looks a bit better.

What do you guys think?

I agree up to the last point. Adding in more viable megas is nice and all, but that wouldn't make the terrible ones any less bad. They'd need to give the currently bad megas some tweaking to either their abilities, stats or straight up buff the base form by giving it access to more moves that the mega can use.

I get some of them are strong enough that locking them behind an item and 1-per-team stipulation makes sense, and a few just exist to make special pokemon even special-er, but many of them ought to have just been new or stone evolutions. I mean, Houndoom gets a nice 600 base stat total but all it becomes is a middling nasty plot user/sun sweeper that can't hold any items. Why not use Darmanitan or Infernape or something?

Don't even get me started on *MEGA!!* Glalie.

Is there a list that shows how many pocketmons there are or were as of each generation?

Like 151 in 1, about 250 in 2, and so on?

Game Freak doesn't internally separate things by Generation, its a fan-made division of games, so I will list all of the times the National Dex has increased in size, since starting in what fans refer to as "Gen VII" new Pokemon get added almost every game. I'll list how big the National dex was on the release day of each new game, note that from Let's Go onwards there are no games that have all of the Pokemon listed:

Red/Green/Blue/Yellow: 151
Gold/Silver/Crystal: 251 (+100)
Ruby/Sapphire/Fire Red/Leaf Green/Emerald: 386 (+135)
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Heart Gold/Soul Silver: 493 (+107)
Black/White/Black2/White2: 649 (+156)
X/Y/Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire: 721 (+72)
Sun/Moon: 802 (+81)
Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: 807 (+5)
Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee: 809 (+2)
Sword/Shield(Base Version): 890 (+81)
Sword/Shield(Isle of Armor Update): 893 (+3)
Sword/Shield(Crown Tundra Update)/Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl: 898 (+5)
Legends: Arceus: 905 (+7)

We currently know about three Pokemon that are going to be in Scarlet and Violet, so in terms of entirely unique species there are 908 revealed to the public as of this post,.
