Unovaborts beyond felted. I like Generation 5 well enough, but I've consistently thought it to be overrated even upon release, and gen 5 fans are very fucking obnoxious on any Pokemon site

I blame whoever decided Eviolite was a good item to add to the series. If you're going to give it a Mega, why not just give it a new evolution? Why isn't Mega Pinsir just an evolution of Pinsir? There's nothing stopping it from being so.
With the state of the franchise today, I hardly think not having their favorite region completely raped beyond recognition can be considered a "felting". Don't worry, the next remaking is coming for Unova so it's only a matter of timeUnovaborts beyond felted. Eviolite is one of the better decisions Gamefreak made in my opinion. You have no idea how many previously useless pokemon this breathed new life into, I hated how some pokemon were rarely ever seen because they were only a temporary form before their final evolution, might as well be a glorified metapod. With eviolite, at least some of these pokemon have a purpose again, while some(like Chansey or Dusclops) are even better than their final forms in some situationsI blame whoever decided Eviolite was a good item to add to the series.
Yes, they can easily just not add it to a game, but that single item is, imo, likely the reason why they slowed down on giving older Pokémon new evolutions and pivoted to Regional Forms whenever they want to give a Pokemon a new evolution.
I mean, it causes some fully evolved pokemon to be entirely outclassed. Plus, a lot of mons that got cross gen evos are borderline unbalanced with it. I do like it overall but I think it has some issuesEviolite is one of the better decisions Gamefreak made in my opinion
Most final evolutions are still superior, but it does help some edge cases. In many of them, you have to be a hardcore competitive player to even be able to tell if there is a reason to use the pokemon vs just evolving it, and even then it offers probably a slight buff in defenses or speed at the cost of power. Remember, these pokemon are entirely dependent on Eviolite as well so Pokemon with knock off are hard counters to every single one(or ones with thief/trick)I mean, it causes some fully evolved pokemon to be entirely outclassed. I'm talking mostly about Scyther if I'm being honest, and I don't think you'd argue with me that it with eviolite is a bit crackedMost final evolutions are still superior, but it does help some edge cases. It is very balanced, at least by Pokemon standards. It's not a mindless plug-n-play like Lefotvers, Z-Crystals/Gems or Mega Stones, some planning is required for most Pokemon
I never tried it with Eviolite as it has many other options available, but there is indeed some pokemon that are broken with Eviolite. Like I said, they are easily countered so they are definitely not overpowered. Eviolite Chansey or Dusclops will ruin your day if you aren't prepared, however.I'm talking mostly about Scyther if I'm being honest, and I don't think you'd argue with me that it with eviolite is a bit cracked

Scyther is weak to fire and 4x weak to rock. Knock off cuts those defenses back to 80 and now it has no items. Just like any Pokemon, it can take you by surprise and sweep your team or it can quickly turn into a 5v6 game within a turn. It's all about how good a player is and how prepared your opponent is to counter you.View attachment 5764716View attachment 5764719
Left is Scyther, right Scizor. Do you see why 1.5x defenses on Scyther is a bit broken?
It was also a major low point for sales in the series, being the worst selling major generation.Even then they never went past a third stage.
They still don't want to go back to Unova because the Unova Dex in gen 5 was not taken well when it happened. Never mind that the dex was far better in B2W2, that first impression (and the honestly shit tier starters) lingered for a long time.
IDK why some people online are acting like Nintendo will spend this hypothetical year "polishing" and "refining" the games, when we know that's (likely) not the case.I don't understand where people draw their optimism from for Legends ZA, the games coming out next year and the only thing they were confident enough to show was a title card. Is it cope?
I disagree. Black/White were terrific games and actually tried to do something different that time around. If they succeeded in that is another story, but I feel this was the last time Pokemon tried to actually evolve as a medium. Ever since people started crying about ice cream cones and lack of Charizards, we have gotten constant stagnation and Kanto pandering. This lead us to the inevitable conclusion that is Sword/Shield, the only reason Scarlet/Violet even went open world is because Legends did so. Current day Gamefreak is creatively bankrupt, so they will milk any good ideas that one of the devs comes up with to the ground, they will make money either way. Playing it safe is the key, since I doubt anyone there even enjoys making these games anyways, that was definitely not the case for Black/White which Masuda considered his Magnum Opus at the time.Black and White’s deserved poor reception and commercial underperformance is the problem
Sucks, but it's not surprising. Remakes/definitive editions, and in the case of BW2, actual sequels, are consistent low sellers.BW2/Platinum/Emerald deserved better though, it’s tragic how the best games in the series all sold the worst.
It doesn't help in BW2's case specifically that it released in the last year of the DS lifecycle, right before the release of 3DS. The online for that game was the least shortlived of the franchise, except for maybe edge cases like the Japanese only Crystal service you needed a Mobile Phone forSucks, but it's not surprising. Remakes/definitive editions, and in the case of BW2, actual sequels, are consistent low sellers
They already soft retconned it with the sun/moon Dex entries making many Mega evos body horror or something that makes the Pokémon go on mindless rampages. Maybe the point of that was to say the power of friendship is so strong Pokémon will endure that for their Trainers, but edgy retcons already have their foundations.Man, I just realised, we're going to get some dogshit story about the first mega evolution, aren't we? Can't wait for the power of friendship to be retconned to the power of everyone being assholes to each other! I hate the moderngamefreakchrist
Black & White were the last mainline games I actually remember moments from. Krocoroc being a team staple, playing around with the form change mechanics of Darmanitan, the fucking GOAT that is Ferrothorn, having fun with Archeops / flying gem / acrobatics nukes. I remember the bridges as transitional set pieces very vividly. The weird as fuck ride with N on the Ferris wheel where I was confused as fuck about this obviously antagonist character's motives. Say what you will about his retarded / brainwashed motivations, but I actually enjoyed the interactions with him as a rival since he didn't start as your happy go lucky friend rival.I really like that gen 5 had no old Mon until post game. If I wanted to use the same old Mon every generation I'd just...idk fuckin play the game they're from. I make it a point to never use a old Mon unless they get a new form later on until post game.
I never got that complaint, especially when the major complaint of Gen 2 is that you can't encounter most of the Johto mons until post-Johto. DP got flak for being poorly balanced with the types (Fire-types, especially), and Platinum fixed it by adding more other generation Pokémon.I really like that gen 5 had no old Mon until post game.
