I largely believe Pokemon LA and the DP Remakes were a contest to see what audiences really wanted. Clearly LA won that fight.
Makes sense. Handed the remake off to other people exactly as the fans wanted to make the games the fans wanted while they did Legends and then the fans went ‘what we wanted was actually rubbish’ very loudly. Whoever suggested that nethod of AB testing, i hope they got a raise.

Remakes were always a way to clean up the older games and not much more. If they are going to do that might as well do it in a Legends game that allows them to add way more than a remake would. LegendZA likely also allows them to lay groundwork and flesh stuff out that a remake of XY would likely draw from or use.

BW don’t need the same level of attention towards there remake.
I have very little faith in gamefreak to do this right if it's their a team. Let the PLA team cut their teeth more.
More importantly, how does gamefreak plan on keeping SV on life support for two years?
Special Event Raids. They’ve already made their sales.

And considering Mario 8 Deluxe got DLC several years after it
released they could always do more DLC.

But seriously, they are clearly holding some things back for later announcements this year. Pokemon Day usually has more to it

Yeah. I just feel that, at least based on the anime, it seems kind of fitting if we have that to fight against almost a combination mon of the two legendaries.

Especially when Zygarde’s gimmick in Alola was collect 100 and it could be made into different forms.

Having Zygarde from the start and each milestone giving it another % form would certainly be a way to mark progress.
You mean I get to do that shitty Spiritomb will-o-wisp collectible bullshit all over again but this time as the main quest? SIGN ME UP!!

There is something clearly down the road for Nintendo and I am curious about how the almost universal disdain to S/V resonated with the boardroom. Yes sure a large group of customers is children, I would like to know how many because I think it is somewhat less than what people think. They will never reveal it though because rival studios will aim for that demographic.

This Pokemon Day stream just felt "clinical" and almost directionless. It felt like there was a director with a bat just swinging at an idea board. Some of these products are just terrible, Sleep will do terrible as the demographic aims at products that fit into their life actively, that is why Go was so successful. Sleep just feels like a Nintendo heart rate monitor with extra steps. These products just don't interest people or have an initial surge and that's it like LABO for instance. Also, people don't really like shovelware now, just simple as.

No one wanted a remake of DPPL. Not really. They wanted something more than that set in the BDPL world.
Game Freak would've had gold if BDSP was some weird prequel-sequel-prequel with Legends: Arceus.

Picture this, Cyrus managed to summon Origin Dialga/Palkia, gets defeated by the player, and "banish..." to past Hisui (Palkia can do it because time is just numerous conglomerate of spaces or some other bs). He could either team up with Volo, or something more stupid, have amnesia (but his core memory is obsessing over "da New World") and get used as a pawn for Rule63!Cynthia's machinations. In the end, Arceus grants Cyrus's desire, in a positive way (instead of him wandering the Distortion World forever), after the player defeats it.

Why did GF stop with whole Mega Evolution universe thing after Gen 7?

I don't know how old the age demographic for Pokemon is but I think it might actually be kids maybe more than adults. Its peers/rivals are a lot more adult in theme and design. I'm not too knowledgeable about YuGiOh, but the Digimon games I've played (the Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memories games) are wayyyy more like sexualized even in just character design alone. Nokia your friend in the game for example has very detailed designs like. You can see the bellybutton/line thing through her dress etc.

There wasn’t almost universal disdain for SV. People complained about the draw distance and glitches but beyond that were ok with it. If anything fans were mad that glitches and draw distance were distracting from the mountains of stuff they liked about the game because it was that bad.

Like I don’t give a fuck about glitches or pop in in Pokemon games, they’ve always been a mess I haven’t cared.

But when the sky quite litterally drops out and becomes a black void above my head even I am going to be distracted by it.

The way old Pokemon games loaded sections or on the screen you usually had to at least put a tiny bit of effort into making your trainer come face to face with hell.

And it was constant. The world just popped away into the void if you did anything.

No directionless. More like they aren’t ready to show what they have. Either because Switch 2 or it is not ready.

Sleep monitoring fits into life activety. That’s why they announced it after Go and tie into it. The problem is then it took ages to release and by the time it did everyone had moved on. But you’ve got to do something with the thing you wasted time developing.

Exactly. People don’t want remakes they want games that expand the regions. Which is why Crystal is held so highly. They should have taken Platinum and just gone even further into developing the stuff it added and released that
Why did GF stop with whole Mega Evolution universe thing after Gen 7?
They haven’t. At least not technically. We are still in that Universe unless they say otherwise.

But if they did maybe they just wanted a clean break where everything is more gen and game contained and starting with Gen 8 on a completely new console is a smart move in that case.
I don't know how old the age demographic for Pokemon is but I think it might actually be kids maybe more than adults.
When you consider the stuff the really sells is all the cute cuddly merch aimed at kids at shown off via a very child focused cartoon. And all but two of the games protags are 10-11 and school aged…it’s not adults.

As you say all it’s rivals tend to go for the older audiance. Likely becsuse Pokemon will crush them if they even try and go after their demo. Which leads to Pokemon never having to worry.

The one time the demo was gone after well..,no one remembers Yokai Watch anymore.

Are you ready for the resurgence of Creepy Clickbait Gay Theory videos once the game adds a crumb of lore surrounding the Lumiose City ghost girl, bro?
Anything to stave off ‘remakes are coming/pokemon is doing this next’ vids

Like jesus, there’s so many interesting things to talk about in Pokemon and yet ‘REMAKES REMAKES REMAKES NEW GAME NEW GAME NEW GAME!’

Going through the Presents video, here are my thought on its various parts.
  • The Tera Raid stuff is something I expected since they usually announce one for Pokémon Day. I am a bit disappointed see that it's just the Kanto Starters and that they're not being rerun (at least for Venusaur and Blastoise, this is Charizard's third run) and there wasn't a Mass Outbreak event announced at the same time.
  • The Pokémon GO x Pokémon Horizons event isn't that surprising considering that the Captain's Hat Pikachu was leaked a while back. Introducing the Charcadet line is interesting but I'll have to see their GO stats to make a call on 'em. The only other thing I found nice was that the Party Hat Kanto Starters, Pikachu, and Eevee can be found today.
  • Pokémon Sleep, Masters EX, and Cafe Remix are eh in my opinion, I never got into those apps.
  • Pokémon Unite announcing Miraidon, Falinks, and Ceruledge is interesting. Here's hoping Miraidon isn't as busted as Zeraora, Mewtwo, and Zacian were. Spoiler: it will be broken on release.
  • The Pokémon TCG Pocket app looks interesting. It's not a replacement for the current Pokémon TCG Live app but rather its own thing like Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Links.
  • Pokémon Legends Z-A is something I'm cautiously optimistic for. I liked PLA so seeing them continue that trend over another remake (especially if it like BDSP or LGPE) is nice, what wasn't nice was the lack any sort of gameplay footage and the 2025 release date. TPC and Game Freak really need to take a page from Nintendo and announce things when they're close to being ready and having enough gameplay footage to grab the viewer's attention but we all know how that would turn out.

If we're going to talk remakes/remasters/rebullshit, WHERE THE HELL IS PMD EXPLORERS DX?

I'd love Chunsoft to redeem themselves with a more polished Gates to Infinity.

Give me explorers of sky with 3d graphics.
Would love XD Gale of darkness too if nothing else just so I can *Hopefully* Have shadow Lugia in other games.

It took 30+ years for Gamefreak to give us an open world, I doubt Z(A) will be anything but half cooked after only 10.
Oh, and if XY are anything to go by, the entire region will be absolutely overrun with niggers. It will be even funnier if the game takes place in the past, just like original Legends game.
Unless someone mods them out completely, I can't be bothered to emulate it. I'm having a blast playing romhacks right now and I don't "need" a new game from that slop factory.
Speaking of which, I am finishing up XG NeXt Gen. It's a Gale of Darkness romhack, I will briefly write about it when I complete it since I think everyone should play it.

Why did GF stop with whole Mega Evolution universe thing after Gen 7?
Because GF doesn't like Mega Evolution. I hear their arguments, and I can't say I really blame them.

1. They snap the games in two in terms of difficulty and make what little balancing they do, an absolute nightmare.

2. Designing them is a pain just from an art perspective. They don't like making Pokemon "cool" per se, but Megas practically DEMAND this.

A perfect example of these two points is Garchomp. Garchomp is already a perfect Pokemon. It's very popular and very strong as is. Mega Garchomp looks terrible and game-wise, it is terrible. There's just no impact. It's slightly better but worse looking Garchomp and there's no reason to run it over base Garchomp and other Megas. Garchomp isn't alone either. There's lots of shitty Megas. Bottom line is, there's too much room for error to end with either a bad looking Mega or a useless one.

3. Megas negatively impact the base game. Let's take Radical Red for an example. For those that aren't aware, Radical Red is a Fire Red difficulty hack that includes EVERYTHING. Every Pokemon through gen 9 and every gimmick from Megas, to Dynamaxing. After Misty, every gym leader uses Megas. What this ultimately does, is put you at a severe disadvantage until you get the ability to use Megas. Once you do, you virtually always dedicate one party slot to a Mega. So you're basically locked into always using 1 out of 20 Pokemon for one of your slots. You're cutting player choice from the 1000+ Pokemon there are, down to around 10-20.

4. They're pretty repetitive for competitive and honestly Terastilizing is so much more fun than Megas ever were. Something you noticed if you played the Mega meta, the best Megas tended to be the ones that changed types and it was for a good reason. Being a Gyarados until you read an electric move and decide to Mega Evolve and Dragon Dancing was the best part of the Mega meta. Terastilizing already does the same thing.

Honestly, I just don't think Megas are as fun of an idea as they once were. I'm perfectly fine with them introducing maybe 1-4 more and never talking about them again for another decade.

Megas and Z crystals should have stayed, even if they would be left as-is. Megas made many previously unusable pokemon good again and added further element of planning(run a powerful pokemon with an item or give it a mega form with no item), and Z crystals gave players a one-time nuke to make the battles more interesting, not to mention giving otherwise useless moves like Splash hidden effects.
Both of them in one game made Gen 7 one of my favorites, definitely a favorite from the competitive side of things. When you take them out after experiencing peak metagame from both gen 6 and 7, you realize how boring the newer games are without them

@Party Hat Wurmple
3. Megas negatively impact the base game. Let's take Radical Red for an example.
You don’t even have to take a Rom Hack as an example. Just take base XY. The game gives you Mega Lucario as your first Mega. A Pokemon that can sweep the entire game on it’s own. It is not even native to XY. The poster boy for the form is a Gen 4 mon.

When as the anime clearly shows the correct choice was giving either the Starters or Zygarde a Mega

Since the game takes place in Kalos, and appears to be taking inspiration from the reconstruction of Paris during the 19th century, then Piplup better be one of the starters because not having a Napoleon-based Pokemon in a game like that would be a massive waste, even for GameFreak.
