Since I saw the prologue, and discovered you are someone from our present, complete with a smart phone, I have been really let down.

Why bother taking place in the past if you are from our present?

My best guess:

Much like the player, they wanted the player character to be completely unfamiliar with the world and how it functions. So the best way to accomplish that, to anyway them, was to have Arceus literally drag us into the past.

I have quite a few gripes with this one. First of all, and the worst offender IMO, is the new 'Pokedex'. Catching Pokemon doesn't fill out entries anymore, no. You have to either catch like, 3-6 of them depending on the mon, or kill 8 of them. It's obnoxious. I went into this game wanting to complete the Pokedex, and now I want to avoid that goal by all means.

Considering encountering and catching pokemon is so fast due to it being a mostly seamless open world, and how powerful later balls are that let you just catch the big final stage evolutions in one throw, I don't think this is a big deal beyond actual really rare pokemon like legendaries. You can catch 5 starly faster then it takes to capture one in the old games because of how the game plays out.

They really did just increase the overall speed of how everything takes place in the game. Catching, batttles, gaining exp, collecting items….

I’ve finally captured Enamorus and, with that done, completed the Kami quadrio mission. That was just as annoying, if not more so, as catching Thundurus.

Now all that’s left is to get all of the Pokedex entries to Level 10 and hopefully obtain the Shiny Charm for doing so, I’ve already completed a majority of ‘em but I’m still missing some of Baby Pokemon and some evolutions.

Thundurus was by far the worst in my opinion. Being forced to use Basculegion was so much worse than the mud slowing me down.

Basculegion is a bitch to sneak around on, which makes catching any of the Alphas far from shore a guaranteed slugfest rather than an artful Razz->Food->Back Strike. Being able to battle and throw items from its back is nice but I also wish you could do it from, say, Braviary so you could avoid messing around with those cover-less Alphas in the snow and beach.

Its looking like the shiny charm grind as well as rank 10 is mostly going to be taking shitmons from the box, using their signature move 3-5 times in Strong/Agile style, then going back for another round.

I have a lot of babies and second evolutions to grind out too.

I agree. It's not like shinies are still rare, anyway. Every generation, they've became more of a handout than something you come across once in a blue moon.

Almost feels too fast if anything, you outlevel everything so stupidly fast which when paired with how limited the battles are makes the majority of the game too easy even by Pokemon standards. Especially if you really get side tracked and start catching alpha pokemon that are higher level then your starter.

The general flow feels much better, but the actual scaling and numbers is whack and need works especially if they try a more open world again. I also think the turn changes are a worse idea because switching is really jank because your opponent knows you switch which I feel reduces the ability to trick the AI (or a real player in pvp scenarios).

You have the perfect chance to make the player their own ancesstor you always do it for it is always funny.

Ironically enough, battling nag doesn’t feel like the main focus, and I mean that in a good way. Sure it’s there, and it’s nice seeing some actual battle moves look different and everything, but it’s more about fighting them to fill out the requirement for the Dex, or how you worked to sneak up on it and separate it from the heard to catch it easier. I think the sneaking and such is fine to spice up the wild pokemon tedium this series has been stuck in since the 90s, but I think battling strong trainers (few they exist in unmodded games) and actual people is generally fine as-is. Fighting multiple pokemon at once is interesting, but I would have preferred if it just went to a double/triple battle for that or at least giving the option to send out more pokemon if you get ganged up on in the wild at the cost of a turn or something. Because it just becomes a complete one shot fest vs multiple pokemon, plus double/triple battles are fun.

The battles themselves are just weird but it is fine as a single player game because the AI doesn't switch, but as a pvp game (or if they ever make the AI ever use switching properly) the standard turn order I think is better. Despite this sort of turn system being tried and true in many rpgs, it feels off in Pokemon due to the way Pokemon generally plays and how it is designed especially due to how switching is used (especially in set mode).

Okay so I gave in and bought Legends Arceus. I'm not reading the rest of this thread in case of spoilers but here are my thoughts after around 6 hours in (Most recent area I beat was the mountain one) (Rank 4)

But that’s the point of the game. There is no pokedex. It’s you going out into the field, scribbling down stuff and having the Prof turn it into the Pokedex.

Having to do thongs repeatedly makes sense as you need to find stuff out etc.

My gripe comes less with needing to repeat tasks but that stuff like feeding Pokemon has to be done in the wild. You can’t catch a Munlax or Snorlax and then feed it.

That and there is seemingly no way to stop lower level pokemon from agrroing you - although dying stupidly will always be fun.

Oh sure as do I but it makes no sense why I can’t feed my own Pokemon.

I hope they add the ablity to do that at the Pastures in DLC and allow us to mine Stone and Ore. Oh and add the Pastures as a Fast Travel Point, seriously scartching my head why it’s not.

All I want for DLC is QoL features. I don’t need new areas or Pokemon.

no shinies for me today, but i did catch an alpha sylveon from inside one of the rifts. didn't even know that alpha pokemon could spawn in rifts, but then usually i'm kinda running blindly with wyrdeer while picking shit up and waiting for better pokemon spawns to show up.

i am now at star rank 5, which means pokemon level 65 and below will obey me, which is pretty sweet since some of the alphas in the crimson mirelands are in the 60's. not that i really even use alphas. i have two in my party, staraptor and floatsel, and i'll probably replace floatsel with literally any water type that is dual-type.
