As much as I feel bad for 6v6 singles players I really dont think its that surprising. They havent supported it beyond the bare minimum for years. The matches are simply too long for any official tournaments. Showdown matches can often take like 45 minutes, and thats with much shorter animation times. Youd end up with many people dropping games half-way, especially when your opponent is little timmy. Smogon has to add alot of rules to balance the format since the main games arent designed around it competitively as well. Showdown is simply a much better home for it. Ideally they would allow custom rulesets in private lobbies, which could allow for it.
I think people are also still thinking of 6v6 in terms of the actual single player games, where you and your opponent have unoptimized Pokemon and one over leveled Mon can obliterate a team on its own.

Ignoring that with how optimized the game is, you'd be lucky if your sweeper kills two Pokemon before it's K.O'd

This is the most I'd ever ask for 6v6 singles, though I'm curious what they'll do with BSS (official singles format, notably bring 6 pick 3) especially if Champions makes it more popular as people migrating from in-game are looking for a singles meta similar to what they just played. Will the official format adopt smogon-style rebalancing with their doubles-oriented mons with bans, or will they tweak the game itself by making some moves or abilities behave differently in singles?

Limiting to 3 mons per battle already solves many of the biggest problems from gen 9 like Rage Fist and Last Respects getting as strong as Explosion for very little cost or 5-fallen Kingambit enabling the most dastardly Sucker Punch 50-50s known to man at every endgame it shows up in.
It'll exist the same way it has in all of the mainline games. Its there, its ignored, and its only provided out of obligation because the mainline story is singles. They could theoretically give it more complex rulesets, but I dont think they care about it enough to bother, and it isnt very popular anyways.

I read it more as people wanting a 1st party version of showdown. Its honestly a monkeys paw because if Nintendo ever actually did start trying to support 6v6 singles I could see them trying to dmca showdown and everyone would be much worse off because of it.

I'm honestly surprised showdown hasn't been dmcad in the 12 years it's existed

Killing showdown would, especially in earlier gens, practically destroy competitive pokemon. The base games make experimenting with competitive teams almost impossible. No one wants to spend hundreds of hours breeding and training potentially unviable pokemon just to see if they might work, especially if you’re shooting for some niche application of nonstandard IVs or something. Besides, they make almost all their money for the games from casual players who play for the adventure and the finding and catching new pokemon, and hardcore competitive players need to buy the games to play tournaments anyway so it’s not like it really hits their bottom line.

I occasionally play Showdown but kept an eye on this since I was hoping for 6v6 matches.
My favorite mons are scattered across all sorts of different Smogon tiers and I only wanted a convenient way to use them together in friendlies against similarly minded players.
3v3s are way too volatile of a format where a single miss or bad starting matchup already brutally sways the outcome and I could never get into doubles. I don't need tournaments or special leaderboards, just any kind of easily accessible lobby.
But, like with anything else, thats expecting too much from modern Pokemon. Never mind the other issues this is already bundled with.
It cannot be overstated enough that GameFreak and Ilca cannot be trusted with anything.

It's wild to me that Gamefreak, Nintendo and the Pokemon company see that people have wanted a battle simulator game to fuck around with, they probably know about how popular Pokemon Showdown is, and how much people enjoy the freedom the game gives them, and they still think "a gatcha game with less content is what the player base wants"

I think many people would pay money to put hats on their mons in a 3d Showdown, but I guess nobody except Valve is confident a game can be sustainable without locking gameplay behind gacha and/or grinding.

If they had made this game a 3d Pokemon Showdown with cosmetic micro transactions for the player and their Pokemon the game would have been a a smash success and stay that way

Instead they let their weird Asian mobile game addiction decide the games design.

Like remove the cost to train Pokemon, same with renting them. Remove the gatcha element, add a gym mode like in the stadium games, add local play and some hostable lobbies and then add the rest of the Pokemon roster over time.

Make it so the cash flow for the game are a cosmetic battle pass that has icons, Pokemon outfits, player outfits, battle music, different stadiums, player cosmetics etc.

Sell all of those individually.

The game would quite literally print money

Lmao these dumb fuckers didn't think to remove Entertainment from Hawlucha when they gave its Mega No Guard. So it can now turn a OHKO move into a never missing menace in doubles

>GF prevents No Guard Fissue Machamps from being a thing
<Doesn't prevent this
I am both amused and insulted at the same time
They actually made sure that in the virtual console RBY back on the 3ds all machamps were given Guts instead of no guard when transferring to pokemon bank. This is a pretty small but still noticeable sign that pokemon has declined hard even from the 3ds era. The bar is so low now that I'm just surprised they showed gameplay for gen 10 and FRLG is """only""" $20.

Correction: Steadfast.

Every Gen1 & Gen2 on PokeTransporter had their hidden abilities instead of normal ones.
Wow, learn something new everyday. Being able to learn new facts about the older games (and even pokemon bank) to this day shows how much work went into the older games.

So the game accidentally made male only Pokemon Gallade into a female

Fags are already latching onto this

Is this new game a gacha game or subscription one?

Just for switch or mobile? Because it looks like mobile
It's both a gatcha game and it has a subscription

It's on Switch/Switch 2 and comes out on phone in June

You don't need to interact with the Gatcha thankfully since they let you transfer your Pokemon from home into the game
