I haven't had the opportunity to try it, what does the battery saver mode do?
It just dims the lights and replaces the map with the Pokemon Go logo so you're not wasting as much as power. Also, sometimes the app craps out on you while it's in battery saver mode (it's not specifically because of the battery saver mode, it's just the regular glitches that plague the game) and doesn't record your footsteps/alert you to nearby Pokemon. So you should check on it periodically.
Ok so I downloaded pokemon go and it sucks. When does the fun start?
Honestly, I would just wait until the app is updated. The current version of Pokemon go is basically a beta; they're planning on adding lots of updates in the future to make it more enjoyable (trading, Pokemon beyond Kanto, fewer glitches/technical issues, etc). Tbh I'm not really enjoying the game anymore because 1.) I live in a suburban area and pickings are pretty sparse here and 2.) the app is so unstable that it quickly becomes more frustrating to play than fun.
I'm probably just going to wait until future updates to play it further. Still though, something that really bothers me is that we're going to have to shell out $35 for a clunky wristwatch in order to know if there are Pokestops and Pokemon around without the app open. You should be able to enable push notifications for that stuff, but instead you have to buy a wristwatch that literally costs as much as a full-fledged 3DS game from the main series.
