Speaking of Mario RPG, has anyone played Mario’s Endless Nightmare? It’s basically the SMRPG version of Paper Mario 64’s Black Pit or TTYD’s Tower of Trials, where it turns the game into a roguelike. Like those games, there’s both a main campaign where you build up stats/equipment and save between groups of battles, and a more traditional roguelike mode with 100 battles where losing means starting over from the beginning.

I’ve gotten up to 3 or 4 stars so far and I say it’s worth playing.

That's because Wonder looks and feels like actual effort went into it. Only notorious "hard" thing was farming for purple coins to buy every stand in the store, and that was only because it was tedious as fuck.

The "New" series of mario games are cookie-cutter souless shit. The only time I ever had any sort of "fun" with them was the 3DS one where you get the power-up that turns everything into coins because at least you can go ham on the stages and find secrets and go exploring by spamming projectiles to make blocks explode. You're not limited to specific stages with the exploring like you are with the Helicopter and Squirrel power-up in Wii and WiiU, which are air-based power-ups and not too many stages have secrets where you need to go into the air. That, and the fact you can't keep Yoshi when you finish a stage is utter bullshit.

Effort doesn't automatically mean quality or inspiration. Mario wonder is just saturated color vomit with sprinkles, it looks more like a Disney game than a Nintendo one. The soundtrack is mid. It was made for the sole purpose of being different from the new super aesthetic and pretending to be unique and quirky.

They recycle the vanilla marketable mario aesthetic and the later games get repetitive, that's it, they're fine games otherwise. They don't hurt my eyes like mario wonder does.

As Beldam is apparently the symbol for stupid transphobic people to them.

Well, it's not like they had much of anything else to work it. Personally, I think that they're an little bit on the funny side. But that's about the same as expecting an random Toad in this series to deliver an unfunny joke, nowadays

I wish the fandom could move past the troon-validity bullshit just because it's a complete waste of time and it's healthier to agree to disagree anyway. It isn't like there's a dearth of valid reasons to despise an unironic groomer in Vivian’s case that even fans would be retarded to defend against them.

Bedlam outright refused to affirm Vivian's identity, whether that be trans or drag queen.

I've also played through escape from ever after and though it presents itself better than bug fables, I think its writing and story are a serious weakpoint. Battles could be better too. I may go into more detail sometime but the company you're fighting and its ceo are just total enigmas to me, I don't understand what Ever After actually does as a company or frankly why the CEO is doing it.
 
I just beat all three fights with the Master in Paper Mario 1, without my usual Stone Cap/Goombario trick that I pulled on him as a kid. I used an ultra-level Bow with the first two fights, using her fan slap to chip away 10 HP per turn from him while I charged up my hammer for the final blow. In the third fight, I had Goombario charging himself up while I used a zap touch badge (to cancel his combo) and charged attacks with a hammer, then when Goombario was charged up enough, I finished off the fight with multibonk.

I died a few times coming up with these strategems, but eventually won without the use of items. Kind of like how I beat Culex in both 2D and 3D forms after dying to him a few times.

When I played the game as a kid, my read on it was Bedlam was insulting Vivian, considering how feminine she was. I thought it was the female equivalent of calling a guy a "pussy".

Yeah. Beldam (Bedlam is a word) in English was just slinging insults because Vivian didn't fit in with the vibe of the group. Beldam in Japanese was somewhat the same but with a little more "But you're a man" "Oh, yeah" to it.
 
Can we aknowledge Bow is the best sidekick in the entire franchise?
  • Defends her people against a giant ghost-eater.
  • Blackmails Mario to do the job but she wants to help anyway.
  • Those slaps are gorgeous, girl.
 
I finally beat the Master the proper way tonight: no party members, no items. It was a glorious battle. But I suppose I did cheat a bit by using the zap touch badge to nullify his combo. Still, it felt right, especially since I've beaten him enough times to feel a bit sorry for him. A far cry from 3D Culex, who I did not hesitate to bury with everything in my arsenal.

That, and their entire species, the Shadow Sirens and their queen, are all mono-gendered, coded as female. I've never seen one of them who was male.

Those slaps with the fan are devastating. I crushed the Master like a bug.

Bow, Vivian, and Valentina are surprisingly good characters in a Mario RPG.

It's not really that surprising with Mario RPGs; they actually care about continuity. In Super Mario RPG, Geno talks to Bowser and the gang about the power of stars to grant wishes, and the first thing Bowser does in Paper Mario is steal the Star Rod so that he can grant his own wishes.

A small lore dump conversation in Super Mario RPG practically determined the plot of Paper Mario.
 
Technicals made a new video on Stryder7x, everyone's favorite Paper Mario 64 expert, to determine whether false rape allegations can crash Paper Mario Youtube Channels.
(As it turns out the answer is yes)
As someone who was only vaguely aware of the accusations and never did my due diligence to determine their legitimacy, it was a good breakdown, and technicals picks most of her allegations full of holes
It's a shame Stryder wasn't able to pull a Projared and make a comeback after the smoke cleared, especially with how good his responses were, though maybe this video can rehabilitate his reputation enough to return?
