The Indiegogo backer who created him apparently got enough shit from people about Scarlet being "phobic" to respond.

And admitted before that that Scarlet having a husband isn't canon.

That is so funny, holy shit. I would have thought people would have called Scarlet homophobic, but he just leap frogs his actual orientation to be an anti-troon icon to people instead. And in a game where Leif exists.

The game was made and balanced as hard mode. Not equipping the badge is baby mode.
I don't even disagree, but it does take a while to understand what's a good strat and what isn't. After beating that freak, I only ever died once during my entire playthrough to the final boss (if you know, you know) since I found a proper way to play the game effectively.

... Honestly looking back at it, the main reason why I probably even died so many times was because instead of stocking on items, I just retried the same fight again and again with one or two healing items and a dream lol.

So, fag-bashing aside, is this game actually good? Or is it just something that kind of fell flat aside from the drama?
It's a genuinely great game. I might be a bit biased since I got it on sale back in 2024 on Steam, but the amount of quality content surprised me for the price.

I have a few bones to pick with it, like I think most of the badges just feel kinda trash to use, but once you get a good a lot of badge points and a good synergy going on, it feels amazing!

Definetly recommend it, specially on sale (and from what I've seen, it goes on discount quite often)

So, I cracked the code on broken badge combos so bad about half way in that I hit the damage cap on the final boss because he gates dying before going into the second phase. I was doing like 80 damage a turn. I did the cave trial without taking damage with a totally different setup too. There's a lot of ridiculous setups you can build your party into.

My main hiccup was the midboss in chapter 3, I thought he was a particularly tough fight cause of his block timings.

The built in bonus modes go someway to fixing this. Its more that sometimes you get a badge late and its no longer needed for example. But if you play randomizer you'll stumble into scenarios where they may be useful.

What's next on the plate? PM1 or SPM remakes?

It honestly hurts to doompost, but like @Two Dollars said:

Please God just let this series die, I’ll never ask for another remake of anything. It really shows how much the modern devs hate TTYD by how much they changed to make it “theirs”.

If I had to expect a new entry, it's probably gonna be an another action-focused game like Origami King called "Paper Mario: Sheets Unfolded" and we gonna have a new gimmicky battle system, 1 or 2 new characters and a story that's just ok.

I guess if I had to be optimistic and had to believe they'd be still focusing on making Paper Mario this "RPG action game with no exp or great customization", I wouldn't mind if they took SPM's core design for once. A 2D platformer would be more fun to play rather than a turn-based game where it's encouraged to NOT engage with the enemies.

Heck, make it a 3D Platformer for all I care, could be interesting.

I was watching some guy named fennekinfox326 review Mario Wonder and he included this image that I'm pretty sure he drew himself

I didn't even 100% agree with his review (though everything he said about Kevin Afghani was on point), but it immediately earned him a sub and earned me a new profile banner.
If he didn't draw it and any of you have it in higher quality I would be in your debt.

You can do that if you want, but I'm not gonna sub to a nigger who says factually incorrect shit, even if he does have funny jokes.

Man... this actually reminded me of how I started looking into modding the dialogue in the TTYD remaster because I was actually so pissed over how fucked the writing for Vivian was. Better off gone.jpg
I could have just restored the original dialogue with certain mods, but I actually opted instead to keep some of the new dialogue like Vivian mentioning how she and her sisters (yes, I say she because I grew up with the English release) weren't very happy together, but completely scrapped the troon dialogue because it actively made her worse because the writers couldn't even go all in with portraying her as a victim of bigotry and I never saw her as a man anyway. So, I basically made her a naturally born girl again who before meeting Mario was dealing with thoughts of suicide before meeting Mario. By the end of the game, she actually gains the strength to stand on her own and opts in the epilogue to keep her distance from Beldam and Marilyn, instead doing her own thing independent of them.
This remake almost makes me regret caring about this game so much. Autistic and gay, I know, but I wouldn't be talking about it if I didn't care.

It's an SNES game updated with 3D graphics and minimal new content and it cost the same as fucking BOTW when it came out. Besides that, nothing imo. I bought it for $25 used and I was pretty happy with it.
A 1:1 remake is so rare these days.
I'm starting to believe the price is justified just for that.
Even a specific glitch against Smithy is still working. That's impressive.

It's weird to suggest it's not worth full price simply because they're using the same story and structure as the original game, while still more or less reprogramming it from scratch, creating all new graphics and music and whatnot. The most expensive part of the game is what's different, and it's more than just some pixels with some lighting effects thrown on them.

I get people can have different opinions but I swear this guy decided he hates Mario Wonder first and bent everything to match that opinion. Like dude just despised everything about it pretty much. I also do agree with him about Afghani, he's a shitty Mario replacement.

Especially the idea that the wonder effects are "repeated" is such a ridiculous point to make, considering how rarely this is the case. But yes, voice actor sucks. Not a good soundalike.

I think Wonder does what it set out to do and one of the only legit complaints I can think someone could have for it is "it's not for me". Nobody's going to win the "game's not hard enough" war because Nintendo only ever wants the hard stuff to be exclusively in postgame.

I guess, but at least you still had to try to beat the New Super Mario Bros games. Wonder doesn't push back against you at all. It's insultingly easy on the same level as a Kirby game. Sure, there are a couple of difficult extra levels, but it's not nearly enough.

It's worth whatever I'm willing to pay for it. I'm not willing to pay full price for a game I beat multiple times in the 1990s and already own multiple legal copies of between the SNES, Virtual Console and SNES classic just because the graphics and sound have been updated. When I was able to get it used at a heavily discounted price, I thought it was worth buying.

I don't give a shit how much work Nintendo put into it. I do not spend money based on the amount of perceived effort an international corporation puts into a product. I only care about how much utility I get out of the product. While enjoyable to revisit, the amount of utility I was going to get out of a near 1:1 remake of a game I already own and have beaten multiple times over the years was limited so I spent my money accordingly. Hope this helps.

It's definitely easier to 100% than NSMBU, but I liked it more than NSMBU.
