This was a good chapter. But that being said, this was also a very Wano Chapter. I love how this comes off of the previous chapter with all its "Kon Kons!", repeat panels, padding dialogue loaded with references only true weebs know just for a brief "important reveal" at the end.

But this chapter goes right back to Wano's favorite thing, offscreening.

- I am glad Hawkins is finally answering some questions. I always thought it was weird how he appeared in the arc so early. It was always more clairvoyant that Apoo was under Kaido for some time. That being said, this is already a good example of my offscreening complaints. The last time we saw these characters, the tables were turned, Hawkins was threatening Laws crew and was ready to torture Law for answers. Now, 24 hours has passed (because Oda was more interested in rewriting the Ringo story) and Law has off screened freed himself.

- and here we go... NOW THE DAY CYCLE IS OFFSCREENING. Seriously Oda? Bottom of each page for three in a row, "6 says til, 5 days til" like, what kind of pacing is this?

And I honestly dont care for the last event now, nor that the Yonko have made an alliance. This offscreening is getting ridiculous now. What about Linlins Kids? If this path were to be taken, could we at least have them back?

Now I got hurricane Dorian to live through.

@TrippinKahlua

The Straw Hats have been sailing around the world for over 20 years, and they still have at least three destinations left to hit.

Oda's earned the right to off-panel the fights he can get away with. I've seen nothing to indicate that he's made a mistake with anything he's chosen not to show.

I think it's way too early to tell, there's still a ton of Wano lore to go through.

My personal theory is a 2x2 fight. Big Mom + Kaido x Luffy + Zoro. But anything can happen really..

This will easily be the longest arc in One Piece, the amount of moving pieces has easily matched Dressrosa's, and there are still some more potential parties yet to come.
I don't see that fight. Zoro's gonna be the one killing Orochi, I just know it. But Orochi's no Spandam, so he won't go down easy. Laugh all you like, but I think he'll be the first challenging fight Zoro's had since the Time Skip.

But I do have a theory: Luffy's nearly awakened his Devil Fruit and has incredible haki; but even with all his allies currently, I can't see him beating the Beast Pirates and the Big Mom Pirates at the same time. He needs to team up with another Emperor to take on two Emperors; but Shanks is on the other side of the planet, so it can't be him. That means the only person strong enough to put Luffy over the edge is Blackbeard.

I could be wrong, and it'd be tough to pull off; but Oda has always respected his resders intelligence, and it's the only logical way I see Luffy beating two Emperors at the same time.

Kaido and Big Momma pirate alliance to make it all more difficult for Luffy and the gang.

It would've been messy to have two different Emperors not on good terms with each other fight the Straw Hats separately, so I was expecting an alliance between them because they have one common enemy. Still will be a mess, but the Straw Hat Alliance is supposed to show up, too, we're assuming. This battle's supposed to be bigger than Marineford's, after all.

It's... still weird to see Big Mom and Kaidou be chummy with each other, though. They were members of the same crew before, but they had to have been really close friends or something to have such a hot-blooded rivalry that cools down with alcohol.

There's a theory that Kaido's one of Linlin's baby-daddies. Specifically, the father of her first set of triplets.

It'd explain a lot. But there was also a theory that Jewelry Bonney was part of the Charlotte Family, and that seems to've been dismissed with all of Big Mom's sons and daughters being accounted for.

Then again, there still might be something to it. Linlin and Bonney have too much in common for it to be a co-incidence. Bonney might not be a daughter per se, but she might be a clone or a granddaughter or even some other sort of relative.

Funny you should mention Bonney, @Truthspeaker, because today's her birthday! Here's her pixiv tag.

It's also Kiwi's birthday, which I have to mention because, well, remember where we are.
I'm really interested to see what Oda does with Bonney. Everything revealed so far's been deeply compelling, and we still don't have actual answers about her.

Today is Boa Sandersonia's birthday! Here's her pixiv tag.

She shares her birthday with Brandnew. We met him back when Luffy got his first bounty.

Today is Wanze's birthday!

I can't imagine that happening. I can't see Luffy and Zoro being strong enough to defeat one of them, let alone both Kaido and Big Mom. Luffy started this arc getting knocked out in one blow by Kaido in his human form, even when he learns advanced armament haki I don't think it's going to power him up enough to be on par with them.

I personally think it's going to be a joint effort of the Worst Generation captains to defeat Kaido. Likely Kid, Law, and Luffy teaming up again, as they did in Sabaody. Hawkins and X-Drake might be part of it too.

As for Big Mom, I honestly don't think she's going to be dealt with in this arc. We know the Straw Hats will likely end up going to Elbaf, perhaps after Wano. It's been an island that's been mentioned all the way back since the Little Garden arc and has popped up time and time again. Big Mom is the only big villain we know of that has a huge connection to Elbaf, and she's still mad that they're the only race that hasn't joined her little faux diversity paradise. So I find it really hard to believe that Oda set up all that backstory with her and Elbaf and her current grudge with Elbaf, just to have Big Mom be dealt with in Wano.

Reminder that we still don't know the limits of post-TS Zoro's power. Everything has come super easy for him, even Dressrosa was a relatively-easy arc for him, power-wise. And he's potentially getting upgrades in the form of new swords.

Plus, a Supernova team-up can still include him, so we could both be right. :)

X Drake seems to be running his own game (releasing Law in the latest arc), my bet is that he's still a marine, and he's in deep cover inside Kaido's army.

It would tally with what the world out there knows about Luffy getting captured (how else would the press know?), and what the Marines don't know about the Samurai's exact level of strength (because X Drake himself still doesn't know).

And you can already tell that Hawkins is just waiting for the right cards to come up and turn on Kaido.

I think Big Mom is getting done in this arc.
  • We already saw a huge chunk of her background, and are about to see the other chunk (the Rocks thing). The rest can be filled in without her being in Elbaf.
  • Any son and daughter that didn't get beaten in the last arc is here to get beat-up in Wano (with the exception of that bubblegum girl, idr the name).

While Zoro's definitely gotten more powerful even he and Luffy aren't enough to take down one of the Yonko because they're on a completely different level than everything else. Remember that Whitebeard (who was on the last legs of his life at that point) alone was enough for the Navy to bust out Sengoku, the Admiral trio, the Shichibukai and numerous Vice Admirals and Kuma clones (and at the end it was Blackbeard who ended up taking him down). The current army is gonna need some major event or ally to tip the scales enough in their favor to stand a chance though it's hard to guess what that'll end up being. I can't imagine the other crews from Dressrosa could possibly be involved given I doubt most (if not all) are completely unaware of the upcoming battle and both Leo and Sai were all the way out at the Reverie. Maybe a reunion of Whitebeard's crew (since Marco and Jozu were shown to be powerful enough to hold their own against Admirals) though Marco seemed hesitant and we don't know what happened to the rest of the crew or what motivation they would have to join in (plus they've the alleged kid hunting them). The most likely scenario I could think of would be BM and Kaido turning on each other, possibly over which one gets to take Luffy down.

I think her appearance in the Reverie discounts that. She's clearly related to Kuma in some manner and could possibly be the actual queen of the Sorbet Kingdom (since we don't know if that was just a one-off disguise to get in or what she uses to rule) and with how tight a leash BM keeps on her kids it's hard to imagine she'd allow one like Bonney whose famous enough to become one of the "worst gen" run around unchecked (whereas Lola's only escaped her wrath by being relatively unknown).

Today is Gekko Moriah's birthday!

It's also Squardo's birthday.

I had no clue how to rate this. Moriah is a sick fuck but Squards story is what made the war arc for me. Him, I cannot disrespect,

Anyway, no new chapter huh? Time for another week of just birthday updates.

I should just catch up on Artur.

I think Luffy has to (and will) step-up to the task of beating Kaido, this is a shonen after all and Luffy is essentially having a training arc right now in the prison. Almost all of the Strawhat fighters have either upgraded or will upgrade soon.

I feel the marines have to interfere by now, Big Mom and Kaido allying again is their doomsday scenario, and we may get to see their newfangled Shichibukai replacement in action soon, plus whatever other weapons/forces that could be in the government's backpocket (CP-0..etc).

I think the catalyst will be X Drake telling them about the alliance.

I see Big Mom using this as a chance to get Kaido's poneglyph or do rubbings like Brooke did. She's always been a greedy double crossing bitch and she's actually very clever when she isn't in food rage mode.

The only way I could see the SH Fleet coming is via Luffy's Vivre Card lighting up like Ace's did. That virus was definitely close to killing Luffy and he did say to them "if you are/if we are in trouble, come running!". Hell, I would say it's a 50/50 chance since Oda said they would cause a big event to happen.

I legit can't picture Bonney as one of Big Mom's kids. The WG is pretty good about keeping tabs on that kind of stuff, even if they don't announce it.
