Well that confirms the WG was most likely originally JB Imu and his crew and the weapons. You have a Sun God and 1 of the Elders named after a planet. Meaning the other 4 will likely be as well.

This probably suggests the weapons are indeed people that can control a devastating power, otherwise naming does not make sense.

I’m assuming the reason the letter JB wrote to the Mermaid Princess was because they died and he was therefore stopped from being able to grant freedom to them.

I really think it’s going to be revealed that Imu was JB.

Everything seems to be setting up the reveal of Luffy making the choice the old Joy Boy did not.

That seems pretty unlikely considering what JB was likely planning was tearing down the lines, bringing the mermen to the surface and uniting the world. The devil fruit are very likely the past souls of those crushed alongside JB when he failed, with the gum gum fruit being JB himself. Hence why the devil fruits are such a thorn in the side of the world government even if some of them make use of the fruits and reappear no matter how hard anyone tries to destroy them. The literal vengeful ghosts from the world governments past.

JB was probably stopped by some outside force that wanted to control a divided world or were the ones who divided it in the first place. Considering the celestial dragons look like they are wearing space suits, their home is quite literally in the clouds, that whatever that World government weapon was that attacked Sabo looking like a space weapon, and the strangely advanced technology that seemed to exist in the past their is a lot of evidence showing that they could quite literally be from space. The most "outside" and divided you can get from the world.

No, Joy Boy had the fruit and was the last one to awaken it. No proof his literal spirit lives on in it, but his will definitely does.

If there’s any constellation here, Shinchiro Watanabe has been on record being very disappointed and disliked the live action version of Cowboy Bebop. I’m not sure Oda will be the näive enough to think that OP will suffer the same fate as that one.

One Piece fandom at this point of time outnumber and will outlast anything Netflix and Netflix-related properties.
Plus we still have the manga with its thousands of chapters as well as the humungous amounts of episodes and recent movie special that was pretty well done.

Difference is that the One Piece image is actually true to form to where you can say "Oh yeah, that's One Piece". The Cowboy Bebop one was just so jarring and very not Cowboy Bebop in composition, that if it wasn't for the title and the Swordfish in the background, no one would've recognized it.

How do they manage weird things like Luffy's powers?

Depends on the location. In a controlled, indoor environment, they could use rear screen projection. Outdoor venues they probably just fake it with smoke and sound effects. Ultimately, though, I don't think it matters because the kids will be entertained by just having the characters run around on stage.

I can't tell if its just bad art or a poor angle, but does Sanji have an unironic chad jaw or just a literal square face?

True to the manga

That’s how a real life Luffy would look though, based on Oda’s own words.
Neat. But you seem to have tagged me rather than the person who posted the comment you're replying to. Threw me because I was trying to find where in my post I said that.

God(a) I missed this thread+you guys while the site was so ganked I couldn't access it.
The One Piece reddit was fucking trash, the actually funny memes didn't even help when they drifted to the top of the shitpile. Any discussion was constantly down voted thus buried and "but that movie wasn't canon you can't reference that"ed to hell. I can imagine how talk re: the live action version would go.

That out of the way: kinda optimistic for live action OP, but that's also coming from a (mostly) anime-only enjoyer with a slightly higher tolerance for filler+pacing bullshit. Definitely want to see LA Usopp's face and what they do with Buggy's crazy ass makeup changes between appearances.

Eta-: I do wonder how they're going to tackle the shit ton of material to work with. This isn't a finished 25-35 episode animu after all.

The show is going to be hyper-compressed. They have to get through at least Baratie in 10 episodes, so I'm expecting a broad-strokes adaptation. Two episodes, at most, on each island.

I'm kinda hoping for a faster pace than the animu, but do you think the hyper compression means some stuff will be cut entirely or be rewritten? For example if the writing is better than Cowboy Bebop's we might get some nods to cut/offscreen stuff in a line or two of dialogue, just as IYKYK sort of thing?
I just wonder how they're going to go with the sheer wackiness of ship designs and cracked out proportions/size scaling of the OP world without losing the charm or making it uncanny af with bad cgi.

Realistic den den mushis might be so ugly they're cute tho- like colorful African land snails or something.

Usopp's been lifting I see.
He's also got dat whole cake booty.
