Goddamn that final blow was so satisfying.

Break next week, though.

things are obviously not over. We are in a Kabuki play still clearly in Act 3 and there is so much that was brought up in the first two Acts not to mention other connected stuff that has yet to be even touched on. Or addressed to Oda's usual level of development.

That's before we get the fact that the citzans always see the final confrontation and it tends to ruin the capital of the country.

And that always happens last.

And it hasn't.

You're falling into the trap of overthinking the formula. The people claiming there's going to be a five act structure because of Kabuki were huffing their own farts. This is a Shonen manga, not Game of Thrones or The Last Jedi. Oda isn't trying to subvert the genre.

All of Kaido's lieutenants have been beaten. Luffy came back from utter, hopeless defeat and he got a power up. Kaido is having nostalgic one-page flashbacks. We keep seeing children praying for Luffy to defeat Kaido. This is it. This is the hero moment. Its over.

I'm not saying there won't be a rug pull, but its extremely unlikely given how unimportant Kaido is to Luffy's journey. Defeating Kaido is a stepping stone, not the end goal.

Good to know I'm falling into the trap of trusting the writer based on everything set up in this arc and how he has done things for 20 years.

There would be no point stylising the acts like a Kabuki play if it wasn't going to follow it. That would be like Whole Cake opening with a musical number snd not closing with one. Very odd to say the least.
This is a Shonen manga, not Game of Thrones or The Last Jedi. Oda isn't trying to subvert the genre.
If he is not going to subvert, then he'll follow the Kabuki act structure he clearly set up. If it's not going to subvert, it will follow the pattern Oda has had for 20 years.

If it's over here, it is subverting. Because before this the antagonist is always the last thing to go. And there's a ton of loose ends currently. The alternative is Oda set up things way earlier and then just forgot them or scrapped them. Which just seems odd considering how eager he was to write Wano. You’d think it would be the one Arc where that does not happen.
Luffy came back from utter, hopeless defeat
We don't even know if that was utter hopeless defeat, it lasted all of a chapter and we still have no idea what happened. If it were utter hopelessness, Kaido would have shown off the body like he said he would in order to break the crew’s spirit’s.

Both Oda and the antagonist were telling us it was anything but utter hopelessness.

When the antagonist is telling you it's not utterly hopeless, it's not utterly hopeless.

We keep seeing children praying for Luffy to defeat Kaido.
No. We don't. They literally don't know it's even happening. They are just praying for anyone. They aren't praying for Luffy specifically. That's kind of my point%

JBT doesn’t think this is over either. There is still one big puzzle piece in his mind, and as much as he wanted his “Ghost Piece” he’s willing to abandon it all if the Big Mom pirates show up to shake things up!

It wouldn't be the first time Oda's ended up changing up things on the spot. Hell, he's done it before in this exact arc; he only did a milestone thing at Chapter 1000 because people were expecting him to, forcing him to shuffle a bunch of events around to get Luffy to the roof quicker (and possibly losing focus on the Tobi Roppo fights). There was also the thing where the manga got the Laugh Tale reveal after Stampede instead of the other way around because Oda took too long to get to that point.

Right now if we get an Act 4 the only thing for it would be to tie up said loose ends and put a marker between the action and the next set of events (a la Luffy getting captured and meeting Kid in jail, the raid about to commence with everyone assembled, etc).

We still need to see what the hell's going to go down with Zunesha and the WG ships, AND we need to see Robin re-examine the Ponegliff in the Flower Capital, along with whatever the hell else she saw, the alleged "kokeshi dolls" (which I'm leaning towards actually being inactive Spaceys, a la Eneru's cover story). There's also character arcs yet to be resolved and we're overdue the next intermission showing us what's happening in the wider One Piece world (Sabo, Vivi, Hancock/Shanks making his move, as per the last two Jump Festas).

I really hope Oda pulls a subversion here. All the things in the last two chapters are such clear 'end of antagonist' staples I just want Kaido to say "Nope, it doesn't always work out that way" and get new fire from putting his all in to gatekeep a potential Joyboy with all his effort to be absolutely sure. Still a lot to wrap up on Wano even if Kaido truly is down...

I'm not familiar with the "Ghost Piece" fan theory.

The Big Mom Pirates were already defeated. If they show up, its only to cart her fat ass home.

Since the Fire Festival is supposed to be a celebration of the dead, JBT expected the spirits of deceased characters (Ace, Bellemere, ETC) who are important to SH’s and Wano players were going to manifest in the sky.

And very well. Big Mom Pirates are as good as done! Guess there’s no need for Elbaf after all.:story:

You keep saying this, but you haven't named any.
There’s Yamato realising she is not Oden
There’s Momo realising he’s not Oden either. By that i mean there probably needs to be some moment that shows this off. And so far, he has not got something that is the usual big flashy show off scene that isn’t interupted by something. Oda usually focuses on the character, there isn’t other stuff being shown at the same time.
There’s Kaido’s setup to recognise someone as a stronger Samurai than Oden.
There’s Vegapunk
There is the people of Wano realising that they probably shouldn’t kill people
There’s Momo using his sword. Soeaking of said sword, it’s the thing that killed the Orochi so that probably has to happen. Or it has to look like it will only for Momo to not. Because early Acts set Momo to fight alongside everyone by showing him sword training.
There is Chopper fixing Smiles.
Also, lol at expecting Oda to develop all the plot points he introduces. Dude is notorious for leaving plot threads dangling for years (decades, even).
The overarching plot, yes.

But things central to an arc? He always finishes them off in the arc. There are loads of unanswered threads regarding Wano that I don’t mind not being addressed this Arc because I don’t think they are central to the Arc itself.
It wouldn't be the first time Oda's ended up changing up things on the spot.
No. I just wouldn’t expect him to introduce an Act structure and not play it straight.

If that’s true, yes it absolutely caused the fights to lose focus. Probably also why the Arc in general has felt very strange pacing wise. With how everything has gone I honestly feel like Act 3’s big dramatic moment of tragedy was supposed to br Oden’s flashback - even though it was played heroic and not tragic - because nothing else comes close and it was moved to the start of Act 3 rather than the end just so Act 3 could be the entire Raid and Act 4 could tie up because Oda did not have enough time. Something has felt off this entire Arc. Oda rushing to meet expected milestones would be it.

Chapter 1000 did not feel very special to me honestly entirely because it felt rushed. Heck, there seemed to be setup where a straw hat would be left behind on each level as the rest rush to the roof allowing for one on one personal fights, and the levels went nowhere. You don’t introduce as many floors as you have main cast for any other reason than to leave one behind every floor to show the gauntlet that the overall fight is. And yet they just skip floors. Like what?
There was also the thing where the manga got the Laugh Tale reveal after Stampede instead of the other way around because Oda took too long to get to that point.
I for one am looking forward to a movie showing Luffy and Shanks meeting again before the manga at this rate.

I’d assume that’s what hapoening. Act 5 is meant to be a quick end so I can absolutely see Oda using Act 4 to address the lose ends before a quick celebration and then closing.

Just read the far coherent and ad free Official version of 1049 and noticed a parallel

Maybe this has been obvious for years but just like Big Mom, Kaido also suffered from his home country not knowing what to do about their own strength. Also like Linlin, Kaido was considered to be handed off to the Navy.

Momo already copped to this when Kanjuro kidnapped him at the beginning of act 3. The issue here is everyone else acknowledging it; Momonosuke is very well aware that he's in his father's shadow.
There’s Kaido’s setup to recognise someone as a stronger Samurai than Oden.
Kaido's deal with Oden was that his epic fight was interrupted so he got robbed of the chance to see whether or not Oden could truly beat him (Oden kicked his ass and was about to finish it). The fight with the Akazaya Nine had him flat out declare there will never be another samurai like Oden (mainly because he was disappointed Oden's retainers couldn't pull off what he did). Then Kaido relived it a few chapters ago when CP0 interrupted his fight with Luffy and was happy as shit that Luffy was able to bounce back from it and pick up where they left off.
Also the new chapter puts a cap on the whole "Strongest Creature in the World" thing so...
