Aw man….

Its been what, two or three years? All that time I keep hoping Hawkins was going to be a good guy in this but no. This chapter cements it. Hawkins is evil, and he is devoted to Kaido.
A captain who literally uses voodoo extra-life magic with his crew to save his skin was never a good guy.

Skimming through Dressrosa again, I'm 100% smitten with how Oda designed the Tontattas. They're adorable and so damn dumb, it's wholesome.

-They're also this weird mix of animu and Moomin-esque that hits just right, especially with Leo and Wicca's designs.

Eta- Agreed on Senior Pink and Franky fight, again, being great.

In fairness I don't think it ever outright states they are his crew. It's entirely possible he does this to enemy crew members.

Hawkins I think was either a character Oda never had much interest in or who did not poll well enough to be given more. Bege in contrast got a lot of development but both Apo and Hawkins were used to show off how scary Kizaru is and as potential Pirate Kings who hit the wall that is the Four Emperors and decided that was where their ambitions ended. Both of which are kind of necessary roles. It's entirely possible Jack, Queen and King were the same before they went up against Kaido, pirates with ambitions of their own. But they ran into someone who was not just stronger than them but stronger than they ever thought they could be so they decided it was better to serve that go on because they would never be Pirate King as long as he was alive so it was best to be his retinue instead.

Debatably that's a factor with all the Emperors. Whitebeard and Big Mam both formed families, one substantially more twisted than the other, and put their pursuit of One Piece on hold. Whitebeard because he did not want more than the family he had and Mam because she decided empire building was enough. Kaido crushed competition and recruited them, pursuing an empire in the same way as Mam, but he seems to have always planned to keep going once he got what needed out of Wano.

Shanks is closer to the Straw Hat Crew from what we have seen. He has companions rather than servants, people who want to see him hit that height. His direct contrast is Blackbeard who while he has some of that sort in his crew with his recruits from Impel Down also has crew members waiting for the chance to steal the position of power themselves.

Not sure if anyone here watches OP YTers or whatever but I found this interview with Japan's biggest YTer really interesting. He's nailed a lot of predictions and really seems to know what he's talking about.

Sadly, it seems like Yamato won't be joining the Strawhats after all, unless her poll numbers swayed Oda's decision.

Does Oda go by potential crewmates' popularity? Because that may explain how my boy Jimbei took so long (besides the whole side story to that, I mean.)

-Eta to add:
Plus, if that's true it makes me kinda concerned for Usopp when someone cooler and more favored comes along, because let's be real he's not the most popular of the straw hats.

Momonosuke is officially aged up, his new dragon form looks awesome!

I don’t think his human form gets revealed however.

Still mad respect brah. I’m glad he realized his current form would never stand up to Kaidou.

I've been trying to give the anime a watch since there are so many weeks without a chapter as of late, but I just couldnt get into it.

The new art style looks very good and all, I haven't spotted too many moments of shoddy animation, but theres just so much padding.

Niggas keep having the same fucking flashbacks (We didnt need to be reminded 5 times about the bean soup thing) and scenes there were maybe 3-4 panels in the manga get stretched to over 3 minutes sometimes. I'm not even talking about the worst examples, like Luffy and Kaido's first fight. I swear the scene where Kin'enom apologizes to Ashura is 5 minutes of him saying "I'm sorry" in different intonations.

Is there any sort of Kai project for this thing that makes it watchable?

Memes.

I hope when Luffy confronts Kaido again, repeats the tired catchphrase, and all looks good again, Kaido BTFO’s him a third time.

It would make a good way to end Act 3. That’s the tragedy, Kaido simply cannot be defeated.

Until O-Lin comes back and fucks him up.

People on Twitter are mad because it's been confirmed in the latest Vivre Card set that Yamato is in fact a female and not trans. Arturo's excessively long post about it below

Yamato is a girl.jpeg

...I mean I've always taken the thing with Kaido calling Yamato 'son' as him being an asshole and raising her as a boy because he thinks women are weak and Yamato going 'fuck you dad, if you want me to be a strong man, I'd rather have Oden, the one man who kicked your ass, as a role model"

I figured this backlash was coming eventually. Yamato was always portrayed as aspirational, not literally male or literally Oden, and the fans were never going to see that until it was explicitly stated. Kaido and his retainers referring to her as male was most likely also aspirational, Kaido probably wanted a son the whole time. He clearly raised her like one, and trained her to fight like him. But instead of becoming him with tits she idolized Oden. I like that, but these particular fans are so desperate to see representation in all the media they like and so used to catering to comically non-passing twitter weirdos that they couldn't see the sideboob staring them right in the face. That post even mentions Okiku, who should stand in enough contrast to how Yamato acts to make it even more obvious. Okiku had to tell you she was biologically male or you wouldn't notice, Yamato had to tell you she was Oden.

I hope there's a scene later where Yamato gets over needing to be Oden or a dude and asserts her own personal identity. An Oden inspired tomboy rather than a pretend boy Oden cosplayer. People will FLIP.

Now that this is completely confirmed I can finally do something I have been waiting to do.

*scratches out Robin as best One Piece Waifu, writes in Yamato*

All hail the Crazy Dragon Wolf-Demon Lady.

On the bright side, they have Morley on their team :)

Morley.jpg

One Piece's Youtube channel has been posting mini movies about different themes in One Piece in celebration of 100 volumes (with newly reanimated sequences to illustrate them). The second one debuted Yamato's voice actress Saori Hayami. Turn on closed captions for subs.

(look at the booze at 2:47)

(Mayumi Tanaka is the teacher at the beginning)

Fucking good, these morons deserve getting their shit pushed in for trying to insert their faggotry into One Piece. Now even the dub won't have an excuse once they get around to Wano (because you just know they were going to try to push the "Yamato's trans" narrative).

One Piece as a series has always been rather blatant with regards to trans or "okama" characters. Kiku seems to be the only exception to this so far. With Yamato, it's ambiguous at best because her whole shtick was wanting to be a specific person, not just "a man". She's an Oden kinnie, if anything.
