There's probably a lot of reasons that could cause this, but if I had a gun to my head and was forced to pick one, I'd say it's due to the often repeated advice to avoid narration whenever possible.Something I've noticed that modern games suffer from, why the fuck does Krato's dead wife not think to herself? She always just talks out loud, instead of thinking. They could have easily just added an echo effect to denote that she's thinking but instead she talks verbally to the audience, going "GE WILIKERS I HAVE TO FIND THE MASK!"
Narration is often seen as or thought to lead writers to be "lazy" or "overly expository" when not done for a stylistic reason like Scorsese or something, as narrating could lead to more "telling" rather than "showing." Which to an extent is true, and there's plenty of example one could find where writers simply have characters explain what they're feeling or thinking.
The problem I believe is that writers like these think they should avoid it altogether and just have the character talk to themselves since that's more "relatable" or "realistic" and therefore circumvents the Narration Bad™ rule, because ultimately, they want the audience to hear what the character(s) thinking.
What they fail to understand (in my hypothetical reality at least) is that narration is perfectly fine if it reveals something that would otherwise not be revealed through the visuals or actions of the characters alone, thus leading to unnecessary and awkward dialogue directed toward the audience.
