There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

I would drop food with US flags on it.
Recall reading of similar situations where food donated by UN or even the US often had their flag/symbols printed on bags meant to be donated to the poor in NK but the military got to it first.

More than 200 people are believed to have died in underground tunnels after a collapse at North Korea’s Punggye-ri nuclear facility.

Around 100 workers were stuck underground and a group that was sent to their rescue were also buried after another collapse, causing a total death toll of around 200.

One of the Korea Meteorological Administration researchers, Lee Won-Jin, presented an analysis of satellite images indicating landslides occurred near the facility following the September test.

North Korea’s next test may not be confined to underground spaces. In September, the country’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho told reporters in New York ahead of his speech at the U.N. that his leader Kim Jong Un may be planning to conduct “an unprecedented scale hydrogen bomb” test over the Pacific. A North Korean senior official recently told CNN the threat should be taken “literally.”

Pretty much always happens. Back when we were delivering supplies in Somalia a writer talked about seeing the donation food from Europe being sold n the markets. The reason the Marines got sent was that it was the only way to ensure supplies got to the actual suffering people.

I wonder what kind of people got killed, whether it was just a bunch of mooks or if they also lost a couple of their nuclear bomb scientists. If the latter, that would be a severe setback for NK.

It would be quite the ironical situation, to have some scientists finally be able to reliably make atomic bombs (and thus not getting shot for their failures) and have them die in an earthquake after they successfully tested a nuclear device.

Unlikely, since most head scientists would logically be removed from dangerous areas and would not go into mine networks in the first place.

Depends, since roughly a hundred people got buried, I guess it's not just the place where the mineshaft is that they jug bombs into, but possibly parts of the infrastructure and maybe some sort of controlroom.
If there's dozens of people around, chances are, they didn't view that place as particularly dangerous and when they lose a similar number during attempts to dig through to the people in the bunkers, I would assume there might be someone down there that was more important than just some henchmen with shovels...

Then again, the most important scientists behind the NK A-Bomb most likely are hidden away in a really, really secluded lab. After all, they might as well be the most important assets the NK army has atm.
