There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

If China wants a buffer state, they're more than welcome to de-annex Manchuria. Even though Manchus mixed with the Chinese to the point of near-extinction when invading centuries ago and vice versa, it creates the opportunity for them to save their shitty language and culture, and be a more fortified buffer against Korea, Russia, and Japan.

The FT have forced their hand economically too as the story is behind a paywall!

I'm hearing rumblings of a missile launch this weekend too, so this could be it. Fatboy is ready to nuke the ocean...
Well fuck, that's r.etarded.

And I mean about both things. Especially Fatass nuking the Ocean (if true). Because holy shit, the amount of outrage from the entire world would be astonishing if he went through with it. Especially since the US and Russia both banned that sort of thing decades ago. Maybe this is what will turn Russia against North Korea, but we'll see about that (rates self :optimistic:)

And hopefully the Independent doesn't screw anyone over like the FT has:

The Independent are good people, the link was fine.

Looks like the Chinese know what's up. They're desperately trying to stop Fatboy from riling up the Yanks, because they know an invasion would be justified. They want their buffer state.

SEND THE PLA IN THEN XI YOU TWAT!

The executive secretary from the CTBTO got twitter all riled up by posting a simulation of an airburst over the Pacific without providing a scale for the radiation or the data for the simulated nuke. It's what they get for hiring a nigger.

That's what's pissing off a lot of people. They say and show a bunch of things without actually explaining or clarifying anything. CNN is guilty of that when it comes to coming up with titles, anything to ensure maximum panic.

This could just as easily be meant for Nork consumption to manipulate Kim or for the West to try calm them down, or both for that matter. They've started actually following UN sanctions to some degree which is a change, but Beijing doesn't do anything drastically. Loosening the reigns on talking about this issue is another measured step to ramp up pressure and placate the UN. I honestly don't think it's anything more.
To prevent a massive flow of refugees across the border, China could send its army to North Korea to create a "safety zone", Jia said.
They'd only allow Best Korea to fall if they were then put in at least partial control of it. Whether it'd be some sort East/West Germany type situation or a more inclusive international effort with them, the US, Russia, the ROK working together I don't know. I don't see any possibility of them letting North and South reunite and serve as a forward US base. Everything they've been doing in the South China Sea recently has been trying to push it's territorial claims and assert its regional dominance. Giving up the Norks would be a huge blow to that.

What would the political fallout be if China just up and annexed the Norks?

It would be pretty bad in my estimation. It'd be like the US annexing Mexico as part of the War on Drugs. South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan especially would lose their shit. Being the closet US allies in the region, it would escalate Chinese/US tensions big time.

It would essentially put everyone in SEA against China and push people on the fence into the US sphere of influence. It would be catastrophically bad for China diplomatically, and potentially make everyone in the SCS dispute decide that Chinese claims can't be tolerated, and form a coalition including the US, potentially even a NATO style alliance in SEA. Not good.
