Shameless double-posting but Nintendo has provided a new firmware update which now includes folders (only available in the All Software menu though, not in the main screen)

  • “Groups” feature was added to the All Software menu.
    • You can now create groups of software to help organize your software titles.
    • Making groups for different game genres, developers, or whatever you’d like to organize by may make it easier to find the application you want.
    • Up to 100 groups can be created with a max of 200 titles per group.
    • The button to proceed to the “All Software” screen is displayed only when there are 13 or more software title icons on the system.
    • For more information, see How to Create Groups of Software.
  • Bluetooth Audio volume behavior was changed.
    • You can now adjust the volume of Bluetooth audio devices using either the Nintendo Switch console or through volume control buttons on the Bluetooth audio device.
    • The Bluetooth audio device must support AVRCP profiles for these changes to work.
    • The volume displayed on the console will reflect the Bluetooth audio volume when using the device’s control buttons.
    • The maximum volume output for some Bluetooth audio devices has been increased.
    • When first connecting a device, volume will be reduced to avoid sudden loudness.

Given how long it took for Metroid to get an quality of life patch, I really don't expect much from Nintendo's products, these days.
 

Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Bugbear Entertainment will release Wreckfest for Switch on June 21 for $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99, the companies announced.

Gotta Protectors: Cart of Darkness has been announced for a western release on the Switch courtesy of Ancient Games and localisation company 8-4. Gotta Protectors: Cart of Darkness first launched in Japan under the title Susume!! Mamotte Knight: Hime no Totsugeki Serenade in Japan on October 10, 2019.
The game is the third entry to the action defence series, following on from the 3DS title Gotta Protectors and the Xbox 360 title Protect Me Knight. It will launch on the eShop on April 14th.

Just open them up with a screwdriver and put a small piece of thin cardboard under the joystick. It's significantly cheaper than buying new Joycons constantly. There are numerous tutorials and articles online on how to do it step-by-step if you are not used to doing those types of things to electronics.

My understanding is that, that's an ok temporary fix but long term or under heavy use it still causes issues. Mostly because you have to press down on the joycon which is what causes it in the first place. Pressing the stick is what makes the metal bits warp.

I've personally just stopped using my joycons and just have a pro controller.

Either that or they just swapped them. Which in the case of a controller isn't that big of a deal.

The effectiveness of this method is vastly overstated. I just use pro controllers. They seem to catch drift at much lower rates. My original pro controller still works fine.
 
I'll admit that I was wrong, I only really noticed the articles when it first came to light mostly because I don't use the Joycons either, honestly, I use the Hori Split Pad Pro in handheld mode and a first-party Pro Controller in console mode.

You're not alone, lots of people think the cardboard trick can permanently save their themed joycons.

The dreadful thing is going to be years down the road that with the high failure rate it's going to be a bitch to find working first party ones for many of the current gen consoles. Already you have systems like the N64 or PS3 where finding original controllers are a rarity, the Switch, PS5, and Xbox all have issues with their controller hardware. However IIRC Sony and Microsoft have both made smaller improvements to their original controller designs internally and they're just not advertised as a feature. But that still makes it harder to find a working one if it's second hand because you can't open them up. I think the boxes may have a slightly different series number and that's the only way of telling if it's a controller with the new guts or not.

Uh... minor (?) correction. Finding authentic N64 controllers is pretty easy and there are a lot f them. There are even more if you don't mind buying one that someone 3D printed... but the originals are easy enough to find so I'm not sure why anyone would do that. I don't know about PS3 controllers though. I imagine these newer, more expensive controllers are going to be a real hassle to replace someday. Even things like Super Nintendo or NES controllers are still pretty straightforward to find and buy.

And remember @Tiger Jack, it's called a "program". Calling things "apps" is for faggots that like to use buzzwords.

I tried this with one of the other sets that are currently in the bag of dead controllers. It worked for a bit but it wasn't a durable enough fix unfortunately.

Nintendo should probably be writing me a check or something.

My mistake I should have differentiated. Finding working original N64 controllers with all their original parts are rare. The sticks have a real tendency to go since the original design had them grind down the plastic and they would become loose and limp.
 
I bought my Switch nearly 2 years ago, and I'm lucky the original Joycons still function.

Still bought a new pair recently just in case the originals start to crap out, it feels like a ticking timebomb at this point.

Frankly, I'm astounded that the console's now 5 years old, and Nintendo still hasn't gotten off their asses to fix this design flaw.

I mean, that is a problem sometimes. But there is still no issue finding good, original N64 controllers.

I am not sure that Nintendo can fix "made in China" so easily.
