This really pisses me off, was looking forward to finally playing it soon.

Nintendo had no way of knowing what was going to happen and it's just a cartoony war game, this is stupid.

Oh, well that's wrong. Nintendo's overall quality never really faltered during the Wii U and their third parties also produced. The Wii U had a lot of excellent games on it.
I skipped over the Wii U entirely, but it did have some excellent games, just recently I played New Super Mario Bros U and Super Mario 3D World, both of which I loved, but I think I made the right call to wait for Switch.

In lighter news, for any Moomin fans out there, this is one to potentially look out for:

Jojo ASB isn't as good as the original Jojo Fighter though, you play through snippets of the story arcs as fights in ASB but in a ton of places it just looks cheap. Eyes of Heaven also suffers from this.

The Original game won't cover stuff like Stone Ocean and I think it's why ASB got a new port to begin with. But both the PSX and DC versions suffer from not being fully arcade accurate, however the PSX version has a story mode which is exclusive to it.

Earthbound was one of my favorite games, i quit games for a few years to have sex and play guitar and in that time there was a sequel made and released without me knowing.

I have been waiting for Nintendo to release it so i can play it officially, but that doesn't seem to be happening. Should I just download the ROM on my modded Wii U? Has anyone here played the Tomato translation? Does it emulate well?

Mother 3 will never be released outside of Japan because the storyline deals with serious tragic events happening to a child, and there are magical benevolent characters that could be easily mistaken for trannies.

The Tomato translation is excellent. The game emulates well, though there's a rhythm-based thing in battles where you tap A to the beat of the song for extra damage. It's not necessary, but helpful, and that matters because some emulators struggle with timing. If you know how to sideload it on your Wii U, you might be fine.

So, just play Tomato's translation. It's a good game.

This is the first time I have a game suddenly showing corrupted pixels on Switch. Re-downloading the game fixed the issue but it could be a warning sign that my microSD card is wearing out
Too bad the collection doesn't include the comedy-romance "Chu-Chu" spinoffs from the Playstation handhelds (similar to the one spinoff from Steins;Gate)

I don't know I mean the Witcher had you fight an aborted fetus that became a demon zombie.

I'm pretty sure the reason Mother 3 was never/will never be released is because Earthbound sold like shit. Moreso than F-Zero or Star Fox or any of the other series that rarely get games that everyone says is because they sold like shit.

Yeah, Earthbound "fans" can say all they want about how much they love it just like all the F-Zero "fans" say they do after Captain Falcon got popular thanks to Smash. The fact Nintendo gives so few shits about the fan translation says a lot IMO.

Dunno bout that given the sucess of metroid dread ( a series that was also dead ) and the popularity of undertale and deltarune ( a game inspired by earthbound ) means that mother 3 is bound to be a sucess

IIRC, even though it was the only title in the series to be released outside of Japan for its initial launch, Earthbound is still the lowest selling game of the three. And while western fans praise Mother 3 to high heaven, in Japan, the only place it actually came out, its reception was not as good as the first two games, mostly citing how different it was from the prior titles. Finally, the first game, the one western fans care about the least, is both the best selling and highest rated of the whole series.

Though to be fair on the sales part, this is due to the fact that, in Japan, the original Famicom had a surprisingly broad audience of users that normally wouldn't have a game console, much like the Wii in all regions years later. As a result it had many Japan-only attachments and accessories to do stuff like managing bank accounts, bet on horse races, and other such things, because personal computers at the time were extremely expensive in Japan and the Famicom, aka the Family Computer, was a much cheaper alternative that could do similar functions with those previously mentioned accessories.

The Mother games are all good and should all be localized officially and released in a smart-looking bundle package with a collectible coin.

But watching Mother fans bitch and moan and suffer as the years go by is great and I would much rather have that and play acceptable-tier ROMs instead.

This cycle has happened with many other japanese IPs besides metroid. It seems to be a primarily Japanese thing to make a blockbuster and then go into sweatshop mode producing shovelware under the same brand name with even less content and less development time every single year until the company inevitably goes under.
*cough* Sonic *cough* (note: I agree, I was simply pointing out Sonic as an example of what you're talking about)

In terms of mother 3 being too dark for Nintendo I don’t know. They have dealt with mature themes in other series like fire emblem. I remember playing advance wars days of ruin as a teenager in finding it pretty dark for a Nintendo game. In terms of sales I think there’s still a market for it. Earthbound has built up a cult following In the west in the 25 years since the last game came out.

I used to kind of buy Nintendo’s reluctance to localize Mother 3 due to its content, but it falls apart the more I think about it. If they are worried about kids buying it, they just need to point to the ESRB rating and not advertise the game on kid friendly platforms. Just localize it and put it on the eshop like they did those detective club games. They can even get away with charging something ridiculous like $30 since the people who want to play it will pay it.

I don't buy the "Undertale is popular, so Mother 3 would sell!" angle.

The exact types of faggots that love Undertale are the exact people that would lose their shit over troon characters in Mother 3. That's not even getting into the idea that Nintendo probably figures at this point the diehards have actually played the Mother 3 fan translation and would either have little motivation to buy a localization they produce or would just hate whatever changes they make anyways.

I honestly think Nintendo just doesn't think it's worth any effort at all to localize it and release it, especially since they don't have a dedicated GBA emulator service at this point. If that ever came down the pipeline then sure, they'd probably do it just to have content on it, but otherwise it wasn't worth the effort when it came out and it's certainly not worth the effort two decades later.

But I'd love to believe it's because Reggie secretly hated Mother faggots and this hatred spread to the rest of Nintendo or something. That's just funnier.
