The way I understand it is that the system itself was barely more powerful than the Wii because they were so focused on the pad.

The whole thing of people thinking it was a dumb peripheral really was't far off, it basically was that you had to buy an extra console for. The Wii did what they wanted fine, there was no need to buy a Wii U.

Same goes for Switch. Nobody except Sony ponies are asking for a 4K Switch. There really isn't a need for it because anyone that wants horseshit movie games just buy a PS5 anyways.

The tablet for the wii-u could be easily ignored for shit like Monster Hunter 3U which way way better than the motion control bullshit that Tri had. It was just an oversized controller, it wasn't a cramped handheld, and it wasn't some fucking dongle that needed multiple things plugged into it just to work.

Mind you this was pre-world and at the time it was probably the best Monster Hunter experience you could get if you played the PSP games when they came out.

The whole 5 years the console was current, 3U and XCX were pretty much the only worthwhile rpgs on the system. Those two games I spent a couple hundred hours each on in total and when I finished both of them the shortcomings of the system became very apparent. The switch I feel the same way about, it has a better library, but the limitations of the system really rear their head after extended use.

Console performance and capability is not equivalent to useless gimmicks. Its clear that even Nintendo struggles with the Switch's performance, so this is a real issue. That being said, Nerrel did an entire video pointing out what was wrong with the Wii U and how it failed miserably, and how Nintendo themselves couldn't figure out how to do anything worthwhile with game pad (while reviewing Star Fox Zero at the same time):

 
I always looked at the Wii U as the home version of the DS/3DS. The tablet was the "bottom screen" basically.

Ultimately pointless and gimmicky and not worth basing the entire console on.

The bottom screen shit fails miserably when you realize playing on your DS usually has you being able to see both screens at once, the Wii-U did not work like that and while looking at the TV screen, you were not looking at what was going on with the tablet because game consoles function differently. StarFox was fucking ruined that way.
 
As it turns out, there was some news regarding playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo on the Nintendo Switch early.

Arlo and IGN gave out their early impressions of it, and so far the responses seem positive.



Also, Vinesauce did what Vinesauce does best with their demo version:


Difference is that they did thirty plus minutes of it.

Overall, as I posted before, this could be the best Kirby game I can waste my time playing on. The hype for it (almost) reminds me of the time when Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out during the start of the global pandemic.

There are a few rough edges but the problem of performance is way too blown out of proportions while entirely ignoring the fact that concessions need to made for the inwards of a portable console. It's just that the disparities are now much lower than back with the Vita/PS4 combo and visual improvements have completely stagnated since last gen, enough for the current Switch to catch up. I can get the latest japanese games on Switch with no hesitation: Atelier Sophie 2 is a recent example of a port that is virtually no different to the other platform versions.

Also, anyone experienced with PC gaming and japanese ports will be taught that throwing more firepower doesn't matter if the dev team isn't willing to learn how to optimize according to the system's architecture. Bad apples can happen on any platform.

Admittedly, I don't care much about the framerate unless it actually hits single digits rather frequently. And I'm still rather forgiving with EDF, which is a franchise known to chug a lot on consoles whenever you carpet-bomb the hell out of enemies, get bukkake'd by a large group of spiders or swarmed by green ants. Musous are another example that hardly run stable on consoles unless they're ports from a previous gen (though I remember playing the demo of Samurai Warriors 5 and it was running the first two levels fairly decently, but Age of Calamity could get rough at times).

Super Mario Maker 2 doesn't have the same amount of post-release updates that SMM1 received from what I've seen. I would have liked Arino from Game Center CX again as well as more playable crossover characters.

Super Mario Maker 2 just lacked any passion or heart, leading to its demise. All character was stripped out from the first. The lack of Amiibo costumes was a bigger loss than fans will give credence to as it was a fun way to keep the game alive with new playable charcters. As is, the game feels lifeless and half-baked. We never even got a new style like many fans were expecting to be placed next to 3D World.

Keeping a close eye on this one. /v/ seems to adore the Vita and I hear there's some cool games on it, not to mention my potato computer can't run anything vita. So having one system that's able to run 2 completely different system games on it natively would probably convince me to get the switch.

Well, Vita would hopefully bring three, if it can completely run Vita's OS. The Vita has full PSP support, and hacked Vitas can fully access everything PSP down to the XMB, and of course, PSP could run PS1 games.

The Vita itself is a very good system, clearly way ahead of its time, but the Switch completely overtook it. Most of the best of Vita's library already got ported to Switch. Just from a look at my Vita game rack, the games I have that either aren't ported or don't have a sequel on Switch, but are still worth playing, are:
  • Persona 4 Golden
  • Lumines: Electronic Symphony
  • Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (this version excludes Peace Walker)
  • DJ Max Technika Tune
but the PSP and PS1, of course, have slews and slews of games still exclusive, so, hopefully, those'll come along too

Would also list Soul Sacrifice Delta, Gravity Rush, IA/VT Colorful and the Gundam Breaker games. I prefered Superbeat Xonic over Technika Tune because the touch screen wasn't mandatory to play for that game
There are also the Vanillaware games (Dragon's Crown, Muramasa Rebirth, Odin's Sphere) and Aquaplus (Utawarerumono, Dungeon Travelers, etc) but I suspect them to be re-released on Switch at a later date too.

Like you said, a lot of the Vita games got already ported on the Nintendo system, sometimes as definitive editions (this applies to the EDF & Atelier games with new QoL features, older musous that contain all the DLCs, SB:X and Deemo with more songs, etc)
 
How much better is the vita screen the the OLED switch's? Or is it the other way around? I don't have one, so i'm on the onset that Vita games on the switch can only look as good as they did on it when played on an OLED switch/TV.
