Why are adults into this?

Good game design is good game design no matter your age.

I would like to see Nintendo make more stuff for older audiences though, I've always loved Eternal Darkness and wish they did more games like that, but while I haven't played them yet I'm glad they at least have the big breasted anime girls of Fire Emblem and Xenoblade.

There's nothing to me that says Nintendo has to always be strictly kid friendly.

I'm still waiting out on a third Kyle Hyde game. I know that Nintendo owns it.

On the otherhand, random nobodies are always placed at the top whether it be Geno, Shantae, probably some random NES character, etc..

If you want to look at things from the eyes of Japan, Banjo absolutely would be on that list if he wasn't already in the game. Nintendo fanboys often like to bitch about how Nintendo only really cares about their Japanese fanbase and weaboos, but Banjo's inclusion in Smash heavily goes against that narrative. While Banjo wasn't completely unheard of in Japan, he wasn't (and still isn't) heralded as an icon of the N64 like he is in the West, nor do they really care about Rare all that much outside of the first couple Donkey Kong Country games. The reason they revealed Hero on the same stream as Banjo was so that they could Japanese fanbase exicted as well, because if they only revealed Banjo, they probably would have went "Meh, that's fine".

I've hated them since the N64. It was when so many companies temporarily abandoned Nintendo and the remaining fan base turned into a hardened cult-like hive mind.
The real part where it went from tolerable to bad was the period basically post-2006, where Nintendo threw the last of the non-insane fanbase under the bus to focus on "casual" games. This was also when NSMB took over the Mario franchise, sucking all the creativity and interesting things out of it in favor of "safe" features that rely on nostalgia.

Games like Epic Yarn, Endless Ocean 1 + 2, Return to Dreamland, and Xenoblade were all great as well.
There did exist good games on the Wii, but unless it's first party Nintendo, there's a good chance that your options are both limited and not as good as the big console versions. eg. I like Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, but it's not up to the standard of Resident Evil games of the time like RE5, which was a game most people hated. Conduit was a fun enough FPS, but doesn't hold a candle to games like Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. Even mid budget games like Sigularity and Legendary, or previous gen FPS's like Time Splitters and Urban Chaos out class it.

There are games on the Wii I wanted to play but never got around to. Spybots is one, Mario Galaxy 2 is another, I have an unopened copy of Metroid Other M I bought on sale and never got around to playing, but you can usually get better elsewhere.

Nintendo fanboys often like to bitch about how Nintendo only really cares about their Japanese fanbase and weaboos, but Banjo's inclusion in Smash heavily goes against that narrative.
It's kind of true though, especially when it comes to Nintendo of America. Nintendo Europe is fine, but we sometimes get hand-me-downs from Nintendo of America. Having the occasional bone thrown like Banjo in Smash doesn't mean much.

I like F-Zero, but there hasn't been a new game since the GameCube and GBA. They shit the bed with Star Fox by constantly remaking the first game instead of continuing the plot, and forcing in dumb gimmicks. Their disinterest and mistreatment of Metroid is well known, see Other M, Federation Force, and attempts to make the Prime games non-canon. Not counting those games and a .jpg shown at E3 years ago, the last new Metroid game was 13 years ago. I could go on. US fans needing to petition to get some Japanese Wii games released in the states, to the infamous Fire Emblem Fates pickles scandal and other censorship.

I don't think Banjo in Smash makes up for all that. It's a start, but that's it.

Edit: I forgot about Metroid: Samus Returns. It's a remake, so I don't know if that counts. People seem to like it.

Ever owned a FDS or a front loading NES?
They break down, a lot compared to the Famicom or Toploading NES.
I own and have modded and serviced all four of the consoles you mentioned.

The Famicom Disk System has moving parts and a thin drive belt that liquefies after about 15 years. I expect lesser performance out of all systems that use a form of a disc drive, as moving parts become a major point of failure in any electronic device. As for the belt itself, it is replaceable without much trouble. Further issues with the Famicom Disk System reside in the belt's tension and timing, which can cause read errors. The Famicom Disk System is a very interesting piece of technology that saw many revisions over its life in Japan. Coupled with the Famicom Disk Writer kiosks, you have something wholly unique in the history of the hobby. I've even seen specific models of the FDS reverse engineered to become disk writers. There is (or was) a very active homebrew/modding scene for the Famicom and its associated accessories about a decade ago.

As for the Toaster NES, yes that system sported a minor design flaw that was part of the learning curve for Nintendo and their cartridge-based ambitions. In the Toaster model you have 72 compression springs in the U-shaped pin connector that will... well, compress over time. This is also a fairly straightforward fix and usually only has to be done once every 20 years; though your mileage may vary depending on how often you use your system. But this sort of pin connector was never used again after the NES. And this is why the Toploader does not have that issue; the Toploader uses what amounts to a modified Super Nintendo pin connector in which the compression issue was resolved.

>Nintendo fags bash SMT to the point of kneecapping it so it will never have wide appeal on the platform

No it's not, but they think it is. Which means once they actually play the game they're going to scream real loud and further ruin the game's chances at success.

As if that matters these are the type of chuckle fucks who think Naoto in Persona 4 is a trans man even though her entire arc is about her accepting the fact that she can be a girl and a good detective in a career environment that is predominately filled with men who treat her like crap because she is a girl. It is like they ignored the fact that shadows are over exaggerated versions of what the character actually thinks or feels on purpose, but that doesn't fit the narrative that they want. So now Naoto is supposed to be trans but Atlus just cucked out.

It's almost like... the current character designer draws androgynous young men.

But I guess when you're Brian Ashcroft, you're too busy up in your own ass to notice anything other than being an annoying gaijin in Japan.

I can't wait for that Cuphead journalist, who couldn't figure out how to play the game and claimed it was too hard, to play the SMT III Remaster and shit himself over it being too hard for him, even with the Merciful DLC mode.

To act like Nocturne is just some "NEVER HEARD OF IT/UNIMPORTANT" game is so disingenuous or outright ignorant.

Other than personally being one of the few games I consider actual art, it's also the tentpole for the whole series from then on with its look, sound and gameplay.

Shit, I really hope out of sheer spite Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 HD gets announced for the switch now because at this point, if people are this unhinged over a mini-annoucement video than DDS will give Atlus and Nintendo a kill count finally.

Edit: Calling it now, DDS and Devil Summoner's are next.

I've not played a SMT game other than Persona 3, but this is definitely very shitty the way these fans are treating the series.

Like I said, the Gamecube marked a real end of an era for Nintendo and even then I think the 'Cube peaked early.

To me what marks the end of the classic era of Nintendo would be Wind Waker.

Thankfully the Switch has brought some of the magic back, Breath of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are as good as anything else they've ever put out, it's just a shame the fanbase has become so embarrassing.

> Be me
> Have everyone I've ever known who cares even an inkling about games reeeing over the fact that a Partners Mini Direct didn't have the right partnered-exclusives from the company they wanted
> Have everyone try to cancel Shin Megami Tensei in favor of high-school slice of life bullshit simulator
> Everyone becomes a Nintendrone overnight
> Me: "I just wanted SMT on modern systems man."

It's like I wished on a monkey's paw or something. And I'm one of those dipshits who actually likes Persona.

These are the same people that were assmad that Metal Gear Solid didn't get ported to the Switch or Banjo didn't get a new game because "MUH SMASH ROSTER IS IMPERTENT TO GAMING HISTRORY".
