It's more or less a case of how there's a growing trend of games being made easier because the stereotypical journalist can't be bothered to read a map or do some math.I'm pretty sure by 6 I was able to read enough to play Link to the Past without getting too lost.
I'm pretty sure playing reading intensive games from a young age is how I tested as having a college reading level in 7th grade.
My friends daughter is like 7 and has trouble reading and speaking. Are kids just like getting dumber due to everything being voiced on tablets now or what?
Zelda games are mostly exposition with your next destination being displayed with a special marker on the overworld map, with an reminder from your partner with highlighted text, or an really obvious hint. Botw had a virtual notebook that kept track of the quests.
I think the only hard part a kid would have in a Zelda game would be the dungeons.
