Pretty much. Fighting games have infamous problems online because of how they generally work. Having dedicated servers for a game where there’s only 2 people in a game would be batshit insane, and the fgc has largely retained the pre-online arcade culture anyway. Rollback or GGPO is generally seen as the best way to mitigate lag. The way it works is that it predicts the next frame of input that would go to the other PC or console, and if the input turns out to be incorrect it’s “rolled back” to the last correct frame and played correctly. It might sound janky but it’s the better option by far compared to delay based netcode.

A turnaround I could see with that is using the All Grown Up versions and have the Rugrats as a special ability (or Final Smash, whatever you call it.)

The team making it made an indie game called Slap City which once you get past the really lousy visuals is the most competent Smash Clone as of yet. This game could turn out to be stupidly enjoyable.
