The character design obviously sucks, either make a trans freak or grind for the skull helmet to hide your western cartoon face immediately.
Its not only characters design that suck ass, it also got the randomized loot boxes. So you know the whole game is build around these lootboxes. Be prepared to grind like hell for these ingame coins, and be pushed to buy the ingame coins for real money. Cant wait for the retarted influencers to start stream and promote this shit on youtube.

Both EA and Activision lost the essence of what made skateboarding rebellious and fun. Never have I felt more depressed than playing skate. I wish the servers for 1 and 2 were still active.

I was kinda enjoying the game for what it was since the public launch (and without spending a single cent) but I'm bored of it now. The story is basically nonexistent, the daily challenges are monotonous/easy, and the devs keep shooting themselves in the foot in the dumbest ways. But the animations are leagues ahead of Session and as someone who has never cared for the lame unrealistic youtuber stunts, I like skating around and creating lines. The best part of the map is still "locked" and it sucks that half of it is taken up by an empty stadium. They said they're committed to a decade of updates but with the unexciting roadmap, I'm giving it a year before they shut the servers down.

I STILL cannot progress through the story challenges. I'm softlocked, along with a lot of other people.

I cannot see this lasting beyond the projected roadmap. Maintenance mode for a couple years after followed by a server shutdown announcement.

I wanted to compare this game's vibe and depiction of skater culture to the original skate.

The original skate. had a laid back, realistic approach to skating. Its watercolor filters and magazine cut out elements give the world a lived in, worn, raw aesthetic. Doesn't it look like somebody is filming from the 2000s with a bulky, VCR compatible camera? No frills, just your average suburbs, downtown, old town, abandoned districts to skate around in.

Now with the skate. reboot:

Everything looks sterilized, sanitized, stilted. It doesn't even LOOK good, just fuzzy and highly contrasted.

I highly recommend the new Skate Style demo on Steam; it's like Session and Skate had a baby. It's got the realism and granularity of Session with the ease and steez of Skate. The devs say it'll have mod support which is great because that's what kept Skater XL alive.

This couldn't have come at a better time since EA announced they're delaying Season 3. I think there's a new event next week but I'm sure it's more of the same repeated challenges and boring/cringe items to unlock.

The steam page for Skate Style has a bluesky link btw

I loved THPS series. 100% them all up to THUG2.

Skate is so... boring. Combos are super short, there's no arcadey feel, grinding needs to be so precise, no manuals...

I get it tries to appeal to the skater demographic but it's also a video game, and there's so many times I can watch my dude try to jump over a boardwalk and faceplant before I get bored.

I miss big combos and skating all over the stage. THPS was fucking awesome. Skate is neutered.

When you say skate., do you mean the reboot or the entire series?

Once you max level all the locales, what's more to do? Repeat the same recycled activities for drip-fed cosmetics? There's even an achievement for obtaining 11,000 "rip score." How do you obtain "rip score?" Doing challenges, unboxing loot boxes, buying cosmetics, finishing their battle passes.

It's not even the cosmetics are cool themselves, but corporate "cool." Even so, they look unisex but for the female form.

The grind magnetization is quite forgiving but I think the new one lets you increase it. Dunno what you mean by no manuals unless you mean freestyle tricks?

You should check out ReTHAWed or THUGPRo. Button mash to your heart's content in every Tony Hawk level ever and some levels from other games.

I played the new Skate game on my PS4 and i think it's absolute dogshit and extremely boring after a few hours of playing it.

Now i'm replaying the original trilogy and it's way much better.

The skate. reboot is adding another location for Season 3. The tutorial island affectionally known as Isle of Grom.

You'll need the skate. Premium pass to access it indefinitely, otherwise you'll need to wait and pay 500 Rip Chips to access it for 24 hours.

Now, remember how EA promised that locations would not be paywalled?

Yeah. Technically, what they're proposing IS a paywall.

EA's website used to say all new areas would be free but they've since amended that. They've just announced layoffs today. Let's look at the new roadmap:

How are you gonna impose an always online multiplayer game on us and not have matchmaking, competitive game modes, prox chat, etc until AFTER the third season? Wait, player created parks are only "in discussion"? They were promised in the first roadmap for season 3:

That and returning to the tutorial island were literally the only things I was looking forward to. But why would I pay for the premium pass when I could just make a new account and go back for free? Also I saw people calling Isle of Grom "Isle of Grooming" and "Little Skate James" and that made me giggle.

Sidenotes: Skater XL has been dead and Session: Skate Sim's dev's parent company filed for insolvency today. Skate Style if you can hear us, please save us.

Well, you see, it's in EARLY ACCESS™️ so the game is ALWAYS EVOLVING!

You did not even mention the THPS 3+4 remake from Activision. Yeah, I think skateboarding culture for video games has long passed from its glory days in the 2000s.

It’s such a shame, because at its core the skating in the game was actually really fun, but it just felt incredibly half-baked. I still somehow managed to put in 60+ hours and was grinding the dailies after work for a while, but after Season 2 launched and it felt like a complete nothingburger, I just gave up on it.

Also the vibe completely sucked. A skating game with almost zero love for actual skating culture. Get fucked EA

Skate Style looks quite cool. I'm not really spergy enough about skating to care about the animation editor, but hopefully this'll be the "good one" that actually succeeds. I want there to be at least one good big skating game again.

I'm gonna be real though, I have a suspicion the reason everyone falls off is the "drawing patterns with thumbsticks" controls. As much as I like the idea of thumbstick skating, it feels bad and imprecise to use. No matter how many times I try playing Session or the old Skate games (or try to input a quarter-circle in a fighting game) with a thumbstick, my inputs feel like they're being done in a referenceless void.

Skate Story is not really what I wanted out of a skating game either (Chapter 1 plays more like an adventure game) but it uses face buttons for tricks, so it feels more precise.

Oh yeah lol. I kinda forgot about it after they announced they were consolidating 4's campaign to two minute runs. I did really love 3 though so maybe I'll pirate it.

I'm waiting for people to upload animation packs for Skate Style. Have you tried Skate with the flicking visualizer turned on? That's how I got gud. Session doesn't have one which makes it harder to learn on top of manual catch which I still can't do.

I don't even remember the Skate games not having a visualizer, it's been fucking years, and maybe it was on by default.

That probably would help a little, I'd just have to spend weeks labbing the sticks to make my brain adjust for the angles of my thumbs so I can actually do cardinal inputs (everything I do on a stick is off by about 20 degrees).
