There is a lot of autistic stuff that I didn't mentioned. Like Makuta being the Palpatine/Lord Voldemort of the franchise finding new ways of coming back. There were still people at lego writing Bionicle stories even after Lego ended the toyline. There were characters including entire Toa teams never made into toys.
I think there’s a point where Makuta is revealed to be a title, not a name, and then there are good Makuta and bad Makuta as well.

Hilarious when you start to look into it.

So stuff like
Blade Runner/2049
The original Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Repo! The Genetic Opera
Metropolis (Both the silent and anime films)
The first thirds of The Fifth Element and Attack of the Clones.
Demolition Man
Judge Dread
Total Recall
Virtuosity
Battle Royale
Brazil
And The Lawnmower Man.
What does Battle Royale have to do with cyberpunk? There's another Japanese movie called Gunhed that's very much cyberpunk adjacent. You can find a decent looking Blu-ray rip on Rarelust.

Please excuse me if I'm late with this information, I haven't learned how movie night works yet. I just want to recommend a fun and obscure movie.

This week is Career Ending Movies I think.

You are correct sir.

They can come in two flavors:

1. So bad it ruins the actors/directors reputation. Examples: Cutthroat Island, Battlefield Earth, Catwoman

2. A much more terminal end to one’s career. Examples: The Crow, The Conqueror, The Twilight Zone Movie.

It’s fine to include stuff that killed someones career for a long time, like Pluto Nash killing Eddie Murphy’s career until he did that excellent Dolemite movie (check it out if you haven’t, he plays a fantastic Rudy Ray Moore).

No worries at all, this movie actually looks fantastic and I’m going to see if I can find a copy to play on Movie night at some point.

Feel free to join us in the future. We start around 6pm EST on Fridays (although we usually start a little earlier, prime time starts around then). We run all weekend.
Friday is theme night, Saturday is leftover movies and a grab bag of whatever people want to bring, Sunday afternoon from about 6pm EST is GBZ (Good, Bad, Zoomie) where it’s three movies in a theme that’s hosted by one of the members of chat.

Like I said, it's on Rarelust. There's a single DDL link. It's slow, but resumable. I checked it again and it looks like they upgraded the rip to 9GB 1080p, so I doubt you'll find anything better. Enjoy!

By the way, this is one of maybe two or three movies with Japanese hardsubs for English dialogue.

Furry Vengeance
Bio-Dome
Heavens Gate
Batman Vs Superman Dawn of Justice
Rover Dangerfield
The Master of Disguise
Jobs (2013)
The Love Guru
After Earth
Ice Cube's War of the Worlds (I know you want to)
Jupiter Ascending

You forgot Bionicle 2.
I just came to a realization right now and wanted to find somewhere to share it. For years I have wondered why Lego refuses to do anything with bionicle and I finally realized it must have had to do with SJW and racism accusations and sure enough a few google searches pulled up plenty of information on the subject. Lego quietly abandoned them due to racism and white washing accusations. It’s such a shame I want to get some sets that aren’t a hundred dollars each for my kids. I don’t believe there were declining sales bionicles are still being sold for insane prices. so many people loved them. It would be cool if Joe that they make decent video games they would make a really sweet one after years of terrible games.

I mean I kinda doubt it. The sales dipped after about the first 3 years with diminishing returns year after year, and the Maori stuff was much more relevant in the early part of the series than the later part. Look at the other series Lego has stuck with as well. They're all franchise brands, and very few are original IPs. I bet the biggest Lego sellers now are Star Wars and Minecraft. Lego has never really been great at pushing their original IPs, i think the biggest outside of Bionicle post 2000s was Ninjago. The other big stuff is the more collector focused sets (I love getting a flower set from time to time and they brighten up the apartment in a nice way). I had to look up the name of the last series since I forgot what they were. I just sorta called them the flying ones but they were the Phantoka and the Mistika. At that point the sales were probably tanked. People only remember the original run and the Toa Nuva, the Metru Nui sets because BENDABLE KNEES and likely the Pirakha because of The American Rejects.

The series also got a reboot in the 2010s that was majorly unsuccessful. People loved them but sets were not being purchased. I think part of the problem is that things were typically released as "set of 6 good guys" and "set of 6 bad guys" and then several big sets. It's a lot for collecting. I'd say people "liked" Bionicles, but in terms of a fan base it was relatively small. A new 12 sets every year *at least* is pretty rough.

I don’t know am I the only one that remembers them as one of the biggest toys of my youth? Maybe so, but they were pretty cool and it still seems weird they just completely vanished when Lego beats horses to death constantly. It seems like for a company with so few ideas they would at least try to reignite it. Re releasing the originals would be great I would buy them all but maybe I’m alone in that island. After all I actually am not that into Lego and that’s the only product I want back on the shelves so I guess that’s probably the case. I know google says that they had declining sales but as the world went to pc nonsense it makes more sense to me now why they don’t try at all to do one thing bionicle .

I think one of the big problems for why the reboot wasn't successful was that they released the reboot too soon. Most of the old fanbase was still entering into collage at the time and Lego didn't really entice the new generation of kids why they should care.
They should've waited till the 10 anniversary of Bionicle in 2021.

Growing up in the 2000s, it didn't mattered how rich or poor, every kid in school that I've ever remember been to their house had at least one Bionicle toy.

Everyone wants to be on that island, the main problem preventing Lego from doing that is that they've destroyed most of their old molds to save money on storage.
Lego could try and recreate them with new molds but it wouldn't be the exact same as the originals

Does The Conqueror count because it gave most of the cast cancer?
Yes, it definitely counts. I was trying to grab a copy last night but the one torrent I found wasn’t moving. If you could find a copy that would be neat (it’s also a hilarious disaster of a movie).

So far I’ve got the following queued up, baring any Gdrive shenanigans:
Cutthroat Island
The Postman
Pluto Nash
Battlefield Earth
The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Catwoman
Love Guru

Stuff that would be lovely if someone could bring them, my drive is pretty full. Pretty sure at least The Crow is on a free streaming site:
The Crow
Inchon
Heavens Gate
Freddy Got Fingered
Megalopolis
The War of The Worlds (the new one, I know we just watched it, but it’s a disaster)
Whatever else people can think of

You mean the 20 year? We saw that video where people are doing 3d printing of pieces and the community appears to be doing well enough on its own. I think if Lego wanted a successful spin off they should sell base models that are relatively flat and then accent sets to pick your specific color and such. I think the big problem is that in this day and age 12+ sets a year is excessive and most consumers won’t go for it. Especially since we’ve endorsed collection mindsets in the average consumer. They won’t feel it beneficial to just get one or two or later down the line they won’t be worth as much.

I think I’d rather see these indie guys continue to make their own parts and maybe put some basic sets together.
Megalopolis
It hasn’t ended any careers *yet*. Don’t besmirch cinematic perfection.

I would replace this with Joss Whedon's Justice League without a doubt.
While I do agree it kill Joss Whedon's career and the DCU as a whole, the DCU really peaked with this scene.
It never really recovered from Martha, why did you say that name?

You mean the 20 year?
Yes, that is what I meant. I.... I just do not want to feel old. :(

I disagree, I think it's autistic that so many people had an issue with this. It reminds me of the tards that act like mentioning sand in a movie was sooo crazy in Star Wars AotC even though the line makes perfect sense with the context of the story and characters. Anakin literally came from a third world planet that was a desert, of course he doesn't find sandy beaches romantic.

The biggest problem with the fight between Batman and Superman in that movie is that the set up for the big showdown didn't make any sense.

If Superman is just trying to get Batman to help him save Martha but knows that Batman doesn't trust him, why not just lead with the whole "save Martha" thing in the first place? Why is Superman even entertaining the idea of wasting his time to save his mother by trying to fight with Batman for no reason at all except he was just having an autistic meltdown. But no one ever brings that up, they just mention "he said Martha hurr hurr". I don't even know why that's supposed to be silly? Bruce's trauma of losing his parents at a young age is what inspired Batman's original core ideals, ideals that he was losing throughout the movie as he became more jaded. When Superman said the name of his dead mother out of nowhere for all Bruce is concerned, it snapped some fucking sense into him. Of course he would want to know why he said that lol it makes sense to me.

Either way, Zack Snyder and literally all of the other actors in this movie have had lucrative careers after BvS, Zack Snyder's movies after BvS haven't been good by any means but he's still made 5 movies since, one of which was only made due to massive fan demand because people actually wanted to see his film while Joss Whedon's Justice League literally got him blacklisted from Hollywood. He'll probably never make another movie again because of how bad he fucked everything up with that movie.

fixed only technically applies to this theme but only to the people who were expecting genndy to keep making things like samurai jack and primal instead of raunchy animated sex comedy about dog wanting bitches

I get what Zach Snyder was trying to do with that scene in BvS. He needed a scene where Batman finally comes to grips that he has lost sight of who he is after Joker killed Robin in the backstory and find his humanity with him coming to terms that he and Superman aren't so different. So why not remind Batman of his mom and the fact the both Batman and Superman's mom's share the same name? The problem is in the execution. In regular Batman stories that everyone is used to, Batman's principal rules are both what keeps him being a hero and ultimately a crutch that his enemies (specifically the joker) exploits that not only puts the innocents of Gotham at risk but even his own friends and adopted family. In normal Batman stories when one of them does get killed by one of Batman's rogues he usually still stays being himself despite the loss. That is the source of the conflict and who Batman at the core is even if it hurts him.
So with DCU's Batman he breaks character but we don't know why specifically. Why threaten to kill Superman even if he sees him as a threat? Why put guns on the Batmobile? It's not truly explained.
The DCU really needed a Ben Affleck Batman solo film before BvS to establish what makes this Batman truly special but the DCU was rushed in 2014 in ordered to play catch up with the MCU.
