A year or so ago, we did a bad sci fi movie marathon one night. I don't recall laughing that hard any other time in years. The new War of the worlds should be included if we do that again.

Superman is coming to VoD on Friday, so will have that ready for the weekend for anyone who wants to watch it.

I've been struck by the mood to rewatch Layer Cake (Dan Craig is a mid level cocaine distributor, really good movie). Would that fit in with this week's Movie Night at all?

I don't know about Friday's theme but Movie Night runs all weekend and the theme isn't so strict on Saturday, we just go through Friday's leftovers along with whatever anyone feels like adding. You could definitely throw it into the list for Saturday or Sunday.

So this is my understanding of the Bionicle timeline.
Their God, The Great Spirit, Mata Nui, a giant robot creates the world by falling from space and crashing on this global ocean planet, this act creates these chain of island and the people called the Matoran.
The Matoran don't know the true nature of Mata Nui but everything is a mystery.
The head island Metru nui becomes a large city ang where all the Matoran live.
The Matoran divide themselves into 6 color elemental themed tribes:
The Red guys are heat resistant and can use fire as part of their "tools" (Lego did not want to use the word weapons)
The Blue ones are water people. They can dive down longer and can heal people.
The White ones are cold people. They can survive in really cold temperatures and have freezing "tools"
The Green Guys are more intuned with nature and the wind. They can jump real far and some can even glide.
And the Black and Brown ones are earth rock and sand people. I think the black ones lived underground and the brown ones lived in the desert.
The Masks are what give them all individual identity. Each tribe has a special mask that help turn one of their own into the ultimate warrior, the Toa.
Flash forward many many years later and then the plot of the second movie happens (except for the last scene), New group of Toa, Toa Metru. The 2004 line of toys)
Then the third movie and then the last scene of the second film. (2005 line of toys)
Then they exodus out of Metru Nui to a new island called Mata Nui. Ironically not on top of the buried robot.
Then the 2001-2002 line of toys happen and we get a new generation of Toa (The first in release date order), Toa Mata.
Then the First movie happened and Takua becomes the seventh Toa, The Toa of Light. (2003 line of Toys)
Takua leave for Metru Nui after the film parting ways with Jalla as he and the other child Matoran characters of that film leave for the island Voya Nui.
Voya Nui gets taken over by these evil but dumb witted Toa posers called the Piraka.
Jalla and his friends become the new Toa, Toa Inika.
The plot of Bionicle Heroes the Video Game happens. (2006 line of toys)
The Piraka and their boss is defeated, Voya Nui is saved.
Then they go underwater for a year's worth of toys. (2007)
Then they go to the sky with cool flying vehicles and a jetpack Matoran on their back for another year's worth of toys. (200
Then Mata Nui wakes up and stands up destroying all the islands and killing a majority of the population in the process.
The survivors go to a new planet and a new Toa team is forged. (2009)
But then real life kids stop buying the toys and Lego pulls the plug. 2010 saw the last line of Bionicle toys being made to more to celebrate and be a last hurrah.
Lego tries to bring Bionicle back for 2015 and 2016 but the kids didn't buy and Bionicle is forever dead.

they did have an ending to the lore at some point. it gets much more convuluted. You didn't include the Suicide Squad team that was put together of ex-villains who are sent to either wake up Mata Nui, or find Makuta.

There is a lot of autistic stuff that I didn't mentioned. Like Makuta being the Palpatine/Lord Voldemort of the franchise finding new ways of coming back. There were still people at lego writing Bionicle stories even after Lego ended the toyline. There were characters including entire Toa teams never made into toys.
