I've played like 20 minutes, since it's all I had time for till Monday. It's fun, but it's maybe a bit too frantic. I legitimately can't tell what's going on half the time because it moves so fucking fast. I need to spend a couple hours with it when I can to see if it's something you can get used to.

It really wants you to use the "dash" as it's the easiest way to blitz through enemies, but the dash has a really bad habit of pushing you from a wall into the next corridor at such a blazing fast speed that you can barely register whats even happened. Could be a user error on my end and I actually need to slow down, but you gave me an FPS with a dedicated dash/slide button, I'm gonna map that shit to one of my 4 mouse buttons so I can blitz at mach 7.

Finished the first chapter and refunded. I got the Katana weapon and literally just went forward until the boss which wasn't built for the weapon, making it a slog. The combat just doesn't flow at all, it's way too clunky and the environment is too busy to actually make aiming meaningful. Maybe the next stages are built into it, but when you get to the end of the stage, and have the antagonist do a mario reference and the "you are actually being controlled, aren't we the height of meta?" I said fuck it. Probably the game will also criticize the player on how he feels entitled for pussy for risking his life.

This is probably the biggest thing I noticed in what I've played so far. It's all a fucking blur, I literally cannot react to the enemies before they put several shots each into me because there's no time to actually take in what I'm seeing and assess anything because everything also blends together, making gun weapons feel completely pointless. The only progress I made was with the katana and just mashing "mouse 1" "dash" and "mouse 2" when the finisher popped up. I like going at break neck speeds in games, especially FPS's, but there's a limit between "fast-paced" and "unplayable", this one feels to be the later. I find the speed fun, but what does that matter when I genuinely can't even tell what's happening?

I want to love this game, I'll give it a bit more time, but I'll probably be following suite. No sense in keeping a game that borders on unplayable.
 
Is it really that hard to just download aleph one and put the legally free marathon games into a glorified WAD folder?
Discordnigger newfags have clearly taken over the project if its getting a steam page for any project older than 2020 and have most likely fucked with it in some way to harvest data from end users.
I don't know, I played it on steam and it's exactly the same as it always was, there isn't anything that was changed to try to make some game design hail mary to try to generate hype for the steam release, no new features that add overly fancy bullshit like gzdoom, no features thaty alter or try to "modernize" gameplay like weapon wheels or any of this stuff to try to appeal to normies.
And we would probably have heard of it already if they were harvesting data. Most likely they just put it on steam to try to reach a bigger audience and get them familiar with the franchis before the reboot.

Pray for Overload 2 now that all the devs that went back to Volition for nuSaints (not the main gameplay guys, obviously) are free.
Descent 1 and 2 were some of my favorite games when I was a wee tot. Every couple years I give Descent a playthrough. I about shit bricks when I saw Civvie 11 doing a Descent video.

During the video he mentioned Overload. I picked it up yesterday and got both map packs for like $8 on GOG. It's like Doom to Doom 2016. It's a masterpiece and I can't believe I never heard of it until it got mentioned by the king of boomer shooters. It's not close to the difficulty of Descent but I only played the first 3 levels. They encourage exploration by adding skill points, kind of like Doom 2016 did with challenges. I rushed the first couple levels and I'm really hoping I didn't fuck myself by not getting skill points. If I did I'll replay the levels because it is fun as fuck.

Anyway great game if you like space flight shooters and don't get motion sickness. Well worth $8 and here's hoping for a sequel that's marketed a little better.

Didn't think about it much until the dev started malding (the tweet is now deleted, unfortunately didn't occur to me to archive it :stress: ) over Yahtzee making a negative review about it, and as expected, the "boomer shooter" commtroonity including GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGmanlives started swarming the tweet linking the video, because you're not allowed to be even remotely critical of anything, since SOMEONE might be offended SOMEWHERE. :story:

I don't think anyone asked for this, then again no one asked for a remake of Powerslave and I thought that game was pretty good.

They seem to have carved out a little niche for themselves remastering these forgotten shooters, I'm all for it, hope they do a good job with it.

Yahtzee review drama aside, I really enjoyed what I played of the game (played through first boss, normal difficulty). It feels good to play, and I hope this gets more people into making cool DOOM TCs/GZdoom games. There's some cool physics stuff, like flipping things over for cover and picking up/throwing things. The AI is pretty aggressive, so you have to be pretty careful about positioning to take guys out, even if they're just regular mooks. The default FOV is 90, as God intended, though I did find myself having to turn down the horizontal mouse sensitivity a bit.

It depends on the game, thankfully they are remastering the more interesting PC version of Killing Time (which i wasn't aware of until a couple of years ago) instead of the 3DO version, which is just a glorified Wolfenstein clone.

The one thing they shouldn't have remastered is PO'ed, the game was shit back then and it's still shit now, but one of the developers has a longtime obsession with that game, to the point of adding weapons from it in one of his WADs back in 2007.

Chzo Mythos doesn't even look that bad. Certainly passable for a random free indie game.
Poacher is pretty duff though. The colours in particular are really bad.
