I wish Horikoshi wouldn't pretend that wasn't their fate, though. The Joint Training arc was one of the most agonizing parts of the manga thanks to how it would humiliate characters we wanted to see succeed to big up background characters who never mattered before and would never matter again, or they'd just take their victory in stupid ways. Shoto being scolded for not wanting to burn his opponents to death, Bakugo "leading by example", and this ever-infamous line:That was the problem with Class 1-B showing up, since already a third of 1-A had boring quirks, useless quirks, or one-dimensional gimmick characters. Tailman, Sugarman, Invisible Girl, and a few others were destined to be background characters from day one.
