The anime ending came about and low and behold it was universally acclaimed
I gave up on MHA when the protagonist cried like a bitch because he couldn't save the mass murdering sociopath that had leveled a whole city, killed countless innocent people, displaces tens of thousands of others, had his goons kill/cripple/maim dozens of his friends, teachers and fellow heroes etc.

At that point Deku stopped being a relatable character - anyone sane would have wanted to kill that motherfucker with their bare hands in that very moment, dogshit sob story or not. Instead Deku cries like a bitch, like he always does, and cucks out of taking responsibility for the legacy he's been chasing after. Who gives a fuck if he'll murder even more people, Deku is too much of an angel to ever dirty his hands and growing the fuck up.

JJK is gay as all Hell, but at least the protagonist eventually realizes that some people just need to die.

Except that's not what happened. There's this thing called remorse something that you learn once you grow up. Deku acknowledged that Shigaraki was a murdering psychopath and never forgave him but didn't want to kill him out of malice, you make it seem like he wanted to be friends with him or that he wanted to redeem him when it was the opposite he chose the hardest path yet still failed because Shigaraki was too far gone at that point.

Yuji coming to realization that he needed to kill something that is literally not human is about the most retarded realization you can prop up a protagonist for especially since JJK characters have no fucking depth.

It's amazing how the cast of Vigilante works better, and so far the logical progression of The Crawler's powers is written pretty well.
That's because Vigilante actually has a good writer who is willing to change the status quo and give some actual edge and consequence to his story. Something MHA's author refused to do at every turn.

Its ironic that a spinoff thats considered better its vastly unpopular and lower rated than the main series so this just reads like cope.

This will be an extremely semantic critique – especially considering there are much more glaring issues with MHA – but I recently had a thought and I wanted to write it down.

I was recently rereading parts of MHA and Vigilantes, and it struck me how much better Vigilantes writes and illustrates characters. You can especially tell with characters that appear in both mangas, anyone ranging from bit characters to heavily featured protagonists. Characters that were vapid or one dimensional are completely different. Here’s a few examples:

Eraser Head

This one’s pretty obvious. In MHA, Aizawa only really exists at class 1A’s teacher. Everything he says or does is related to the class or to the school. Even after they move up a grade he still remains their teacher, because that’s all he ever is. Vigilantes Aizawa does stuff outside of his job. We see him eat, we see him interact with his colleagues, we see him formulate plans, and we see him make new associates. I also want to illustrate (pun intended) how Vigilantes really does exceed MHA visually character wise. Here’s two panels with Aizawa doing the same pose.

In the MHA version, Aizawa is following his schtick of being flat and stilted. He’s drawn so stiff he almost looks lifeless. In Vigilantes, he’s maintaining the same casual pose but he’s drawn much softer. His eyes are also wandering as if he’s thinking or just trying to look for something to occupy himself with. It really makes a difference!

Midnight

Midnight’s an actual character in Vigilantes. In MHA she shows up a few times, does her gimmick and then dies. Most insultingly you are expected to care about her death. Other characters who barely interacted with her, it at all, bawl their eyes out. Midnight in Vigilantes actually intereacts with other characters. She even tells Endeavor off at some point which was interesting to see. She’s actually an active participant in the plot!

Detective Tsukaiuchi

In MHA Tsukaiuchi is just nice detective man who is All Mights inside man. Riveting. Vigilantes Tsukaiuchi is a just individual but his definition of justice leads to him clashing with the main character, as well as with his sister, who he regardless cares for deeply whether or not they always agree. His firendship with All Might is also more believable as we see the two interact and have tea together in cafes. In MHA Tsukaiuchi shows so little emotion he might as well have been a robot. He really could have been replaced with any other character really.

Rappa and Mirko

I’m putting these two characters together because in MHA they’re really similar. Both really just fight good and that’s the sum of their characters. I guess you could add that Mirko is also the author’s personal waifu? Then again she does get maimed a concerning amount…

Vigilantes takes two characters that should by all means overlap and does something fun with them. They’re two punch drunk retards stuck with one of the smartest characters in the series as their baby stitter. They quiblle over nonsense but at the same time both know that they need to get the job done and by the end of the arc become friends. Mirko’s smarter then she lets on, and actually knows how to be a pro-hero outside of “hit thing hard”. Rappa wants a good fight, and possibly as a good way to die. He also funnily enough has an idealistic view of what a hero should be.

If it’s not obvious, I liked the Underground Masquerade arc

OFA

In Vigilantes he actually behaves like an intelligent antagonist. He plans things out (not pulling twists out of nowhere mind you), he tries to avoid costly battles, he lets others do the dirty work, and he gets what he wants. What’s not to love?

Honorable Mentions

All Might, Endeavor’s sidekicks, Fat Gum and the other heroes have much more character to them. Never thought I’d think Fat Gum is a good character but here we are.

because Shigaraki was too far gone at that point.
No, he failed because Shigaraki was absurdly overpowered by that point, the moment that faggot was given Wolverine Regeneration the story was doomed because unless someone Goku tier shows up the only way that "Guy with full Regeneration and the ability to end the planet with a single touch" gets beaten is through pure stupid bullshit.

blah blah blah
Yeah nobody asked for your opinion. I swear most of the shit that gets brought up with this series are non-issues. Who the fuck complains of "the main antagonist of a shounen manga being over powered"?

@GoodWinSon
Posts like this is why Im so happy Vigilantes is doing so poorly in comparison to the main series because it proves that everyone who claimed it was better were all full of shit so now they're just coping.

"The Main Good guy being functionally unable to do anything relevant in combat with the main badguy totally isn't a problem bro" Hell I didn't have problems with Deku wanting to try and redeem Shigaraki. It is a very Hero thing to do, hell Batman has tried to redeem the Joker. However The entire final battle between the two being "Deku and Co flail uselessly against somebody they can't actually hurt until it is time for Deku to throw One for All pieces at his soul" is completely unsatisfying as a conclusion to the final battle.

Shigaraki getting god powers isn't a problem itself, but he got 2 of the most broken powers you could have and in the same time period while we are building up in the ultimate battle Deku got jack and shit. Deku can't even use god damn 100% on his own at the end of the series he has to fucking fake it with gear shift.

Also for the record.

I don't read Vigilantes, why the fuck would I care about Temu Kakashi's backstory?

is completely unsatisfying as a conclusion to the final battle.
Why? It literally gives Deku a way to reach Shiggy which was his goal throughout the entire fight. Its not a Deus Ex Machina and it required Deku to sacrifice something meaningful. Again you're complaining about the final boss in a shounen manga being absurdly strong something that was built up throughout the entire story, the fact that it took everything at the heroes disposal and it still wasn't enough made it a viable threat and something that needed a solution other than punching harder to find a solution to.
