Are you ready for ANOTHER FFXIV crossover with mmo mechanics introduced with the subtlety of a brick to the face? No? Too bad!

Probably a good time now to start placing bets on whether or not it'll get cut for G rank AGAIN like the crossover monsters in base world.
On one hand, I've been a big fan of Omega for years and I want to see the armor and weapons that come from it, on the other hand this is locked behind Wilds so already it's dead to me. And another FF crossover? Does Square know where the bodies are hidden or are the people behind this addicted to XIV and want to shove it in MH as much as possible. Or is XIV that popular that having this collaboration will make them bank?

Behemoth was a bottom 5 monster in world, which is really saying something when it's from a game that had trash like Zorah, Kush, Lavasioth with budget agnaktor mechanics, Azurelos (specifically when you fight it in ancient forest), and of course, Ancient Leshen. I can't imagine forcing mmo mechanics yet again will result in anything different, but do you know the worst part? Even if they manage to make it a top-tier fight, so what? They've wasted all that effort on a monster that's borderline impossible to ever bring back. It's very much not even guaranteed to come back for the damn G rank. I really think crossover content should be relegated to armor and weapons in monhun. I'm just tired.

I think the absolute ceiling potential for this is gonna be somewhere around "eh, it was kinda fun the first time around when its mechanics and gimmicks were still a surprise". More likely, it's going to be complete ass like Behemoth was. I already mentioned though, even if they manage to put out some sort of masterpiece, so what? It has virtually zero potential to ever return in the series, and there's a good chance it won't even be in the G rank. Furthermore, I don't think people realize how much development time had to go into this compared to a returning monster. It's likely around the same development time as Mizu, Lagi, and Steve combined, and that might even be generous. You could have this... or you could have Zinogre, Glavenus, and Goss Harag all in the same title update. Just keep the chocobo costume for the seikret and have that be the crossover.

I like (hate) how dragon dogma 2 is completely memory hold and all their focus is going into this piece of shit.
Did you unironically buy their "it's a new flagship!" line or something? Dogma was never gonna get even a fraction the amount of attention.

I'm still floored at the amount of shit they were toying with in World that had to be nixed to fit in fucking Behemoth and Geralt.

A space robot that shoots death lasers is probably the most ill fitting crossover monster they could have picked for Monster Hunter. Imagine you get to crossover with Final Fantasy, a world filled with fantastical creatures and dragons you can choose from. A fucking robot.

Should have put in big ole' Middy or one of the other Great Wyrms in

Weren't some of the more notable examples being Oroshi Kirin, Alatreon, and Lagiacrus going to be in base World but they got removed (with Alatreon being added much later in Iceborne development) and replaced with Behemoth and the Witcher shit? I also vaguely recall someone making a post about it here too...

As much as I like Omega, the more you think about it the more you realize that this was arguably one of the worst choices they could have picked. They probably picked it because of the whole "construct" monsters and to go "the ancient civilization was so advanced Omega wouldn't look out of place" or something. It still does anyway but people don't care because "lol my weapon is a giant popcorn" or "we had other wacky collaborations that don't fit monster hunter." They also mention Antal-Ka which just makes you realize these people are arguing in bad faith.
Monster Hunter, reduced to "who cares, shiny toys."

At least with ahtal-ka the neset is a walking pile of junk held together by string and dreams, which in itself is a nod to some insects being able to carry things well above their own body weight. There's also the lore implication that its modeled after Gogmazios with the dragonator sticking out of its back and the artbooks stating that each neset is unique and modeled after whatever that ahtal-ka has seen in its life. It wasn't a flying space drone that shoots death lasers and spawns hovering jet-powered mecha fists.

I'm not that well versed in final fantasy outside of 4, 6, and 7, but from what I've had explained to me, Omega is a dimension-hopping robot designed to fight dragons. It's clear that 100% of effort was put towards how well it fit final fantasy rather than monster hunter, despite being the monster hunter side of the collab.

Ahtal-Ka was still ill-fitting, garish bullshit, hate that it was put in Monster Hunter, but a literal fucking robot? What? Doesn't Final Fantasy have dragons and animals and shit?

All so they can do they utterly tired "ancient civilization that has amazing tech" gimmick which has not been even slightly interesting for a VERY LONG TIME. This piece of shit game STILL crashes for me and performs poorly btw, can we get a MH x Performance crossover please?

You know you've fucked up when even the Grade A cattle on Reddit are disappointed at how safe, and thus boring, the collabs have been thus far

With that said, from my memory, behemoth was OK (insofar as a gimmick fight is concerned), whereas leshen was a fucking abomination. Hopefully it's more like the former, if not better. Also, I imagine the playerbase would be less frustrated with the whole ordeal if the general mood wasn't so dour. Remarking upon that, it's an interesting coincidence that at the time of behemoth's release both titles had much to look forward to in terms of growth and player satisfaction, but this time around the most recent release for each was panned due to serious issues plaguing their respective properties (a further coincidence in that regard being that both had an awful tranny EN VA).

Anyways, here's a 1.021 review
BlogPosting.webp
1.021 was released as a stopgap between TU2 and TU3, concurrently it was revealed that no serious performance fixes would be done until TU4, in winter. It's obvious to everyone that they should have simply delayed the game, Capcom's financial struggles at the time be damned. First impressions are key, and the game's reputation will be damaged for years to come (if not forever) even if they fix the performance. Such shortsighted business practices are simply part and parcel of modern 'AAA' gaming I suppose...

The main addition to 1.021 is a new talisman system. Much like in sunbreak it is RNG-based, though not as odious if only because there isn't nearly as much skill bloat (though I imagine by the time of G rank they will have to add plenty more), though as a PC Chad I simply bypassed the grind as with the Artian system. The main allure of these talismans is access to weapon skills as opposed to just armor skills. Thankfully, they do not wholly supplant the standard charms, instead serving as a strict upgrade only for the more weapon-skill hungry weapons like gunlance or CB. Overall, seems like a good addition for build variety.

There's also the introduction of 9✰ versions of (most) of the preexisting 8✰ quests. Compared to the jump from 7 to 8✰' or from tempered to AT, the buffs are fairly minor. The only notable change was to Arkveld, having been given a comparatively larger health buff alongside significantly increased aggression and attack speed. I would rate the difficulty for the 9✰ versions as such
9StarTL.webp

I am pleased with the uptick in difficulty in response to player feedback, at this point I'd argue Wilds has the highest base end game difficulty insofar as the newgen titles are concerned. With that said, there is definitely a vocal minority displeased with the difficulty, wishing to return to the lower difficulty ceiling wherein their scrubbery would not be made so readily known (you could see such lowlifes causing a ruckus in Rurikhan's chat with AT Tuna and in somewhat greater numbers with this newest release). Hopefully Capcom ignores them and makes a tough G rank; Especially since, unlike the Alatreon and Fatalis crybaby crashout, this time they can't review bomb the game any lower.

Other than that there were some more weapon changes
GS: Minor buffs to damage and the speed of some transitions has been hastened. Overall, nbd which is fine since the GS was in a good state already
LS: ISS delay decreased. It was definitely noticeable before and a fair number of LS mains complained about it so I suppose it's good they fixed it. LS is in a good state
SNS: reverted counter slash dmg nerf. Good change, SNS is far from being overtuned in the damage department. SNS is in a good state.
DBs: New focus mode strike, good for dps slaves but I'll still use the old one as it's much flashier and thus much more enjoyable. Also some other minor improvements. DBs are in a pretty good state, mayhaps I'd like a little somthing new to spice it up.
HH: Gave hilt stab more combo opportunities and gave it counter properties like SA's "counter rising slash". Very good change. The ability to merely hilt stab more often to build up melodies faster is a nice change in and of itself, but the counter really has quite some potential and definitely further raises the HH skill ceiling.
Lance:
Capcom finally treatin us lance mains right, the weapon is fucking godlike now. Pretty nice overall damage buff, bigger hitboxes, charge counter after a minimal knockback guard, a very nice increase in travel distance for leaping thrusts, lower power guard damage. (For all blocking weapons) They even made it so guarding abilities (blocks) no longer trigger in response to ally attacks when using shock absorber: One of the most annoying "fuck shield users" decisions has finally been eradicated. Lance is now in an great state, they shouldn't buff it any more (at least the moveset, damage is debatable but It seems to be alright)
GL: Nothing but a bug fix, GL is in a fine state
SA: Nothingburger offset attack changes. While I think SA is an improvement over World's, most SA mains are in agreeance with the sentiment @Markorian posted earlier of Rise's iteration being a much preferable direction, for better integrating the Axe rather than being so wholly sword mode focused. At the very least, I do think they need to give ED and ZSD a raison d'être (even if niche/not meta) as compared to FRS. Perhaps if those moves granted the axe the phial explosions it'd yield an interesting alternative playstyle?
CB: Axe mode buffs, they're fine. After the TU2 changes CB has been in a fairly good place.
IG: Some damage buffs and bug fixes. They also made the offset attack easier, probably a good change since IG's was way harder than the other weapons'. IG's in a good state.
LBG and HBG: Damage buffs to most ammo types and more gauge recovery. I don't know (or particularly care) about the state of the bowguns. I largely think their mains are just whining that they can't stunlock-rape the monsters to death in 5 seconds like the prior games.
Bow: Just a bug fix. Seems to be in a fine state. The tracer round could use a rework thoughever.

Given that I have a beefy rig, I've actually been enjoying these updates. However, the wider player base's sentiments are not going to change until we see some substantial performance improvements. Also, for goodness' sake add a fucking player house to show off endemic life you lazy niggers, there's no excuse since you can recoup whatever meager dev time it would take by selling furniture like ya did in World.

Figured I'd hop on for a bit. Try out the AT fights. It's just a battle of not getting 1-2 shot. Riveting.

Monster Hunter has so many unique little mechanics they could use to spice fights up, especially for these AT Monsters, and they just default to more damage and more health. I get that all the regular fights are easy, but "increase number" has always been a lazy approach to difficulty and so many fucking games default to this method. I'm bored of it.

Im very much enjoying the added difficulty with 9 star quests, alot of what was prior just felt too quick for my liking.

On another note, I had built a fresh computer to handle wilds, as my older one was having trouble with world. One of my gripes lately is how my computer's temperature get fairly warm, however becomes hot only with Nu Udra. I'd call it 4D immersion but it gets old fast.

The hilt-stab being updated has been refreshing, I've only done it a few times by accident so far, but I can see how it can be layered in with combos. I've got a handle on offsets lately, and Seregeios has become a punching bag

It's like two corpses clinging to each other hoping their joint buoyancy will keep them afloat.

I'd really like to meet someone who's super into these FF collabs and ask them why. With my fists. The amount of time spent of this fucking shit could have been used on literally anything else. Lord knows the games got a mountain of thing that could have used the attention more than a one off monster you can never ever use again that you likely had to pay quite a bit of money to license.
Whatever. I'm unironically excited for Gog at least. It's been a long ass time and this game desperately needed some Elders. Which is funny. You'd think after two games of being swarmed by them they'd be played out. Idk if that's just me, the Wilds roster being overall pretty weak, or if Elder Dragon's are just that fucking cool.

Honestly Wilds really feels like the game that should have gone all in on Elder Dragon's.

New FF update dropped, and I'm liking the new monster. Switched from HH to sword and board to get the healing faster.

The fight can get a little annoying with the fire blasts, I'm having to slow down a bit (which is nice in some regards) instead of spamming attack. I have only completed the base level, and have yet too fight the savage.

I've been mucking about in World again, and realising a majority of those players still just grind Kulve and Safi, I'm happy to be back to wilds. Yes there is more hand-holding, but being able to use the horn quickly has some perks to it for sure.
