Kut-Ku is still filtering noobs from what I see in various places. Warms my heart. These people will bow to their Senei whether they like it or not.

Overall i don't have any real issues with the choices themselves, I just question the reasoning that went into them.
Except Gravios. I fucking hate this cunt. Always have. And his stupid bear noises.
Holy fuck dude, I hope whoever suggested Gravios (And Basarios in Rise) be brought back loses their job. I don't like Gypceros but Nerscylla at least has a predator/prey dynamic with him so I'm okay with it.

Overall, your circle attack string with the double slash is gonna a be your best source of dps for just about any style other than striker (which lacks it entirely), but triangle is good for getting in quick hits and has better range, which can be useful for getting a tail cut, or a quick strike on a more spastic monster or something like a rathalos that's flying around. Don't sleep on the axe chop combo though, aerial isn't as tethered to sword mode as other styles might be, other than for your vaulting attack itself.
Cool, thanks for the clarifications. And as per the elemental discharge? Seems a bit like a trap due to how long it takes to actually do. Also, going into more details on the Arts themselves, what should I be aiming for? Power Boost seems to be a nice solid pick, but haven't really experimented with others outside of the default spergout combo which sucked.

What do you all think about the monsters choices in this game? As in, almost all the monsters are new, and most of those returning are remade for NuMH for the first time.

I am very glad they're trying to make mostly new monsters instead of endlessly nostalgia baiting old ones. But it obviously takes more time to do that, so you'd think they'd supplement it with some returning monsters that were remade for Iceborne to help with the low monster count, at least to give you more stuff to fight at the end of the game. I was glad to see Rathian and Rathalos have much more going on.

Many of the returning monsters are such weird choices. Fucking Gypceros? Why do I ever have to see this thing again? Yian Kut-ku? I thought monster packs were supposed to be something they were trying to do this time, wouldn't it make more sense to bring back Qurupeco who can call monsters and is basically just Yian Kut-ku but 5x more interesting? Why bring back Blangonga but do nothing whatsoever to make him interesting or a threat? Just weird. I'm curious what people think.

I don't like many of the new monsters because their designs are extremely detailed and deviate from the older style of the series. There are a few like Ray, Arkveld, Chata, Ajar and Lala that run between passable if not "good" monster hunter designs. Jin Dahaad, is fine but his fight is probably what made him grow on me. Discount Namielle, meh. I do not like Nu Udra, it's just a octopus on fire, Xu Wu is slightly better butthe design fits a Soulsborne enemy more. I really don't care about the rest of the new ones.

As for returning monsters Gypceros was back because of Nerscylla needs it for ecology reasons. Congalala is because of the "pack" feature that wasn't really fleshed out in the end despite Capcom making seem more important than it did. And funny enough Kut-Ku using the pack mechanic more yet they didn't bother with adding Konchu as it's natural prey.

Trance slash is by far the weakest saxe art, just because it takes so damn long, but is hilarious to use for style points in a triple art style because both demon riot and tempest axe buff its already high damage.

Energy charge is the bread and butter, and was so good that it had to be nerfed going from gen to GU by giving it a significantly longer time to charge up. That being said, it's still fantastic, though primarily at levels 2 and 3, which give you a 10% and 30% affinity boost on top of filling your morph gauge.

Demon riot is the main reason switch axe pairs so well with styles that have multiple arts. Depending on your level, you get a 5%/10%/20% boost to some stat based on your phial (20% extra raw at level 3 if you're using a power phial is insane), and sword attacks don't deplete the morphing gauge for a duration, though it goes down over time, and can't be manually refilled. However, you can use energy charge to bypass this, staying in sword mode in perpetuity if you're aggressive enough, hence the nerf to how often you can spam energy charge. It still works in GU, it just requires skill to pull off now and is no longer free.

Tempest axe is a fun one, but definitely a bit more geared towards late game, as you don't unlock level 1 for a while, and don't unlock subsequent levels until G rank. It improves just about everything in axe mode, and while it's definitely not as strong in my opinion as the demon riot combo, it's still a viable playstyle, and opens a lot of weapons up to being more viable as you're not as desperate for a power phial if you're staying in axe for your dps.

The way I did it was: LR Village > LR Hub > HR Village > HR Hub > G-Rank Hub
You can do it in whatever way you want, my way is just personal preference.
That's how I've always done it too. Feels like it makes the most sense personally.
Ray, Arkveld, Chata, Ajar and Lala
With the exception of Ajar, I agree. I'd even say they're close to instantly classic because they could slot in to a lot of the other games and fit right in. Ajar is the one who gives me Souls/Black Myth vibes design wise. His fight is fuckin fun though.

Jesus, the Black Flame confused the hell out of me with the way it was animated. I legitimately couldn't keep track of its flailing and rolling, despite it not seeming any more erratic than other monsters.

I just don't like squid, apparently.

I never played Rise, not fond of the gameplay I saw, but when it was nearing release and I saw they added BASARIOS in the game it was kinda the last straw lol. It is without question one of the least interesting, most obsolete, forgettable, retarded monsters in the whole series.

Gravios and Basarios should literally never have even been considered to be in another game, just say in the lore that they're extinct now lol

You are now remembering ruby basarios exists.
The roster and the maps are the main reasons I just can't call 4U my favorite game in the series, if it was just one or the other, sure, but there's just so much clutter with the trashmons of gens 1 and 2, combined with the worst maps in the series (until world at least)

I don't mind Gravios, he's just not very rememberable to me. I really like his hammer though. Basarios can eat a dick and RUBY Basarios is cancer. Since Gravios seems to be hated so much, I shall remind you when Gravios got its shit rocked.

I love the first 8 hours of a MH game. Monsters are creative and natural looking, fit their environment. You kill one 3 times and make a water element hammer cause why not lmao.
>16 hours later
Every monster is super fast, winged wyvern, one-shots, and the funny quirky mechanics like eating different fruits for different effects are kept as rng fun in the first half of the game.

I unironically liked the gorilla from Rise and the ice sword bear-yeti thing. Big, 'slow', imposing, fun. I actually bothered learning animations to block with lance, only to be rewarded with missing a poke. Flashback to Rise and LS's naruto iframe which made tails explode off the body, negating all damage taken.

It's impossble to main a weapon consistently in this game, and lance being the closest to mine, brings nothing unique to a hunt..

Yeah, there's a lot of really cool stuff that often feels wasted on a monster you'll fight a grand total of twice before moving on to rathalos, tigrex, gore, seregios, nargacuga, zinogre, etc for the 20th time because they die to a stiff breeze if you upgrade your gear even once. That's actually one thing I really enjoy about sunbreak, despite how grindy the endgame can get, anomaly investigations do a better job of helping low tier monsters stay at least somewhat relevant as fights later in the game than any other similar mechanic (frenzy, hyper, tempered, etc). Blood Orange Bishaten is a really cool fight, same with other low tiers like garangolm and tetranadon. Sure, it's a bit of a grind, but if I want to engage with their mechanics while still having somewhat of a challenge, I can rank up an investigation for them. Now compare to iceborne. Coral Pukei is one of the best subspecies in series history, but it's an absolute joke of a fight in terms of difficulty, and even the tempered is just a whole lot of nothing.

Honestly I thought they put in Gypceros back because they needed at least one monster that can flashbang hunters and Tzitzi is just too new to make a return. (Flashbang chad beloved pls put him in back he's funny in Worlds.)

I hate almost all the oil biome monsters I won't lie. Ajarakan is annoying to fight, ditto Gravios and fuck the oil squid with a rusty ice pike.

The problem with all of the story wank is that there is a very real risk of the game shifting more and more into movie game.
The story isn't shoved down your fucking throat with the controls yanked away from yo

Ok, i see people are being mostly mad over how the story is presented, not the story itself, fair.
It's all skippable so you're not held hostage having to watch the cutscenes.

I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea but I don't thibkbits a Capcom problem as much as it is a game industry problem.
We see this in almost every game nowadays since the studios wanna flex their technical muscles.

But like, these actual story. The tale told, does anyone care? Sure, people on reddit seem to think it's good (lol) but does anyone feel the need for npc caracther progression or like?
I get some miss going from bad to good hunter and that I get but who care if the npcs have some big change?

Also, got the bug where youre stuck at HR40 lol. Did everything they asked of me and it won't budge.
Lolol fu game

First, while the 3 minute pre-rendered cutscene might be skippable, the far more egregious 7 minute walk n talk exposition corridor is not. Second, I'd say it's a mix of both. Not only does wilds have the worst story in a series that couldn't be further from being known for its writing, there is exponentially more emphasis placed upon it, to the detriment of every other facet of the game, and it's also told in an infuriating and downright insulting way, emulating what hack writers who couldn't even get a netflix contract back when netflix gave them out like candy on Halloween and are forced to take a job writing for playstation games and hate every minute of it and are embarrassed to be working in games and attempt to make them more like movies as retaliation do.

I simply value my time and money too much to pay $70 for a game that drops to 40fps on a 4070 at 1080p BEFORE the three layers of drm sapping away additional performance, all so I can suffer through a monotonous slog made for 50iq journos that got filtered by cuphead's tutorial for 20 hours for the vague promise that maybe, just maybe, after all of that, I might have half as much fun as I did with base world and base rise, which themselves already released in an unacceptable state. Maybe, if more people valued their time and money as much, disastrous launches like this that still make a fucktillion dollars anyways would be the exception in the gaming industry rather than the norm.

What do you all think about the monsters choices in this game
I'm not playing so can't judge too well, but just for the skeleton variety it gets a big thumbs up from me compared to base World. When I eventually get to it, I'm specially curious about the octopus monsters.

From my understanding there are walk and talk segments and those are unskippable.
But like, these actual story. The tale told, does anyone care?
I hope nobody older than 16 gives a shit, but then you read retarded articles talking about how the story was totally a motivator for players and cold sweat starts running.

Sadly as shown in this thread, the KCD2 thread, and probably several more threads, this not only isn't changing anytime soon, it's getting worse. And that's just a few "people" on here, the rest of the internet is far worse. Only way this has even the slightest chance of getting better is if the gaming industry crashes. The mentality of "who cares if it's fun (for me)" is damn near singlehandedly keeping these people afloat.

He's the most scripted (easiest) fight out of the four Apex monsters.
He reminds me alot of the odd scenarios, where your weapon and hunting skills you've been building are just left on the curb, please learn how to fire ballista to hook an extremely fast sandworm on a skiff or protect this castle from a 5 story crab that's just all leg. Rise's rampages were a slight improvement on those, but I'm glad they're sidelined into what feels like a warcraft raid, but easier. The music and effects are pretty cool aesthetically.

Is it ever explained how these retards survived without weapons.
Windward Plains: Surround village in crystal windchimes that sound like Rey Dau, warding off monsters

Scarlet Forest: Wudwuds live in trees and are small, none of the native creatures really go into trees (until you fuck up the ecosystem and monsters capable of flight move in)

Wyveria Ruins: Barricaded themselves in a cored out and protected cave system and shut the giant stone door behind them so no guardians can get in, food is entirely grown on the inside using wylk

Oilwell Basin: Absolutely fuckall protection, village is liable to get rape-ape'd at any time

A lot of these shill YTers are saying that the story is so good and unique and such, but really, it just seems like Generic Capcom Template to me. None of the characters are particularly interesting or have anything interesting to say, and you notice it because you're just not allowed to play the game while they yammer on. I'd daresay SF6's story is better despite being generic, sheerly because you're not stuck in as many cutscenes or on-rails walking segments. Many visual designs are nice, but they have less personality than the monsters you hunt.
The story is complete shit. Which is fine, because the story in monster hunter isn’t supposed to be good. It’s a gameplay first game. Problem is they shove the story in your face in wilds like I’m supposed to care about any of these characters.

And I bet with all these shills the franchise going forward will have MORE CUTSCENES.
