Yeah? So make the Ace or whatever the forward soldier is a male? It just seems weird with none in either a combat role or a hard-labour profession, not to mention that both the bug nerd and the old grump both fuck up along the course of the story and need to be saved from their reckless endangerment of others. Haven't seen anything like that from the Big Three as of Chapter 3.
Then complain about those things; I don't know your history with the franchise so I was describing why two of the characters were women. I don't know the full amount of issues as I didn't buy the full game because of performance issues.

Really just tired of this discourse and cope. "Sure the game doesn't play as good as the other ones, has less content/monsters/everything, runs like shit, is ugly as sin and takes 20 hours to actually get engaging, but it's still really fun!" That'll be 70 dollars please! It's what the kids call, rape victim shit.
Who's said the game doesn't play as well as the other ones? Probably the only good thing they've done with the game is make the gameplay better. Focus mode allowing actual aiming, the perfect guards, combos on gunlance, and the dodge on the bow are all great and things they should've done earlier. It does make an already easy game even easier but game difficulty shouldn't come from the controls being shit.

The story stuff is retarded and I'm surprised people are actually interested in it. I got about 10 seconds into the first cutscene and then skipped all of them and all possible lines of dialog. The only options for a game being "online" and "online singleplayer" is really annoying, especially because every time I go to start a quest it fucks up and tell me it's unable to make a lobby the first time. I'm not trying to play with other people that's why I picked "singleplayer", start the fucking quest.

My biggest issue - besides the in-game handholding - is the story feels overhyped and not much different from the typical Capcom story experience. There are dialogue options that don't seem to matter, characters just gush about the world and spout exposition. They all just seem like Dragon's Dogma Pawns, and the only character who has any development is the boy.

If you do buy it, just skip all the story you can - it's not worth it.

From what I understand, the story hype is less about the story itself but more what it means for Monster Hunter lore in general. A lot of huge MH fans are excited about the lore of the monsters. Since that's what most of the fans care about--the monsters.

That being said, the game is stupid easy. Investigating tracks is pointless and your Seikret just auto paths you to the monster.

I also don't like how much they nerfed IG. You pretty much need all three buffs to perform as you did in World and ground attacks feel so much slower. Sure, it's easier to get all three buffs from the wound system, it's just a slow start.

I'm still kind of enjoying the game and getting used to it. Just beat the LR story.

"Having to commit to attacks/weapons having weight/i-frames not being given out like candy = shit controls" is another shill talking point that needs to die.

Is anyone really upset over the story or is just nitpicking?
it's not a story game imo, it's about hunting monsters, like who cares. See it as a outdrawn tutorial if you have too but I have a hard time seeing anyone playing MH for the immersion and deep story.

Sure, one could say it shouldn't be shit but it's like the story in a Mario or a Zelda game, who even gives a f? It's there to move the game forward, not to be the whole game.

Yeah, nata is a bit awful but laugh it off and go fuck up a dragon. You hardly even see him in the post game so I wouldn't say he's the problem he's made out to be.

World had a story about dragons or something with a million cutscenes as well. No problem, just skip it and go hunting.
PersonallyI think the the monster cutscenes are cool af, more of that.

The biggest problem I see, together with many others, is all the cut content. Worlds had a fuckton of little things to do (someone brought up the photo quests) that was great to make the world feel like there was always something to do.
here it's kinda.... now what? I enjoy the game and been playing it steady since launch but I need the difficulty to ramp up a bit.
I like the whole "gear up" aspect but when that feels redundant due to lack of difficulty on many (not all) monsters so far it's a bit sad.

Edit
@Markorian i also found this on the MHW Wikipedia
SmartSelect_20250313_024555_Firefox.jpg
It also spiked popularity for ps5 rentals. So Japanese people are playing it, not just buying the same amount of physical copies.

The lack of perfect guard and the new bow dodge aren't shit controls, they're just new additions that feel fun to use. They do probably need to increase monster speed and/or reduce their idle times between attacks to make up for it.

If you think the original lance/gunlance controls aren't shit vs being able to actually aim like you're using technology beyond a SNES dpad you might be an honest to god retard. That's like arguing that the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill controls are good. You can do it, but make sure you wear your special hat when you go outside.

Now in all fairness, apparently those "generic" quests are apparently the only way for you to get LR versions of the monsters once you cleared the campaign. The actual side quests you get once you get through the extended tutorial are much more flavourful. (Not by much but still).

Which honestly is just another sign that they rushed this through the door.

That's the thing, by every available metric and data point we have, wilds had a far smoother development than both world and rise, and was even given potentially a year of delay to shore things up, and it STILL shipped in this sorry ass state.

GU has a shit story (not even close to as shit as world or wilds', but that's beside the point). You wanna know why it's my favorite, despite that? The story isn't shoved down your fucking throat with the controls yanked away from you so you can watch yet another sony-style walk and talk exposition corridor (which can't be skipped because apparently they don't count as cutscenes, thanks, crapcum) for 7 minutes a few dozen times before the "good" part begins.

I don't think slow segments stopping me from playing the game sound very fun and I'm mostly worried they will add more of it as the producer believes the story segments is why the game is popular.

There's also the little thing where making the story campaign (whether via mocaps, custom animation, voice acting and designing quests around them) clearly took up a lot of their time. I had to laugh that most of the HR "story" quests reverted to everyone standing around in a generic pose like it was an early 2010s game.

I have no idea how people "organically" think this trash story is any good
Browsing the modern Internet becomes a whole lot easier once you realize that the vast majority of what you see is astroturfed garbage, and that organic popularity has been dead for a very long time.

I get the feeling that some of you just hate fun. The game is fun, horror of horrors.
I don't doubt that there are some very bitter bitches in here, but I'd say most are "I've played better". It's always jarring to see something that you consider good get worse with each iteration. This is extra jarring with the Worlds and Wilds dynamic of being more "westernized" (as in, willing to waste your time with irrelevant shit that means watching and not playing). Hate Risebreak all you want, but it went straight to the point, was arcadey as hell and I personally loved the fuck out of it even though it didn't even make me sweat till Apex monsters and deep high rank. All of that praise for Wilds of getting straight to the hunt? Risebreak already had it for the most part and you had a lot of fun options with how you wished to use your weapon.

I definitely want to see what the fun MonHun team is cooking up. Hopefully they will stick with not giving much of a shit about narrative and see what worked and what didn't from Rise and reach a happy medium. Lose mobility, but keep the optional moves.

Sure, one could say it shouldn't be shit but it's like the story in a Mario or a Zelda game, who even gives a f? It's there to move the game forward, not to be the whole game.
When Mario grinds to a halt and I'm suddenly slow walking through a level while the random new character is giving me a lore dump it can be considered the same. The problem with all of the story wank is that there is a very real risk of the game shifting more and more into movie game.

Leave the stories for the spinoff RPG. Monster hunter needs nothing more elaborate than "critter is bothering village" or "we hungry and want to eat critter".

Anywho. Gotten more used to Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

I managed to have one of the most intense fights against a fucking Testucabra of all things. Betwen using an incredibly shitty iron switch ax since none of the upgrades seemed worth it and I wanted Monster Bone L to get the elk switch ax and me just underestimating the fucking toad and still not used to the moveset. I killed it after chugging all of my potions (of which I did not bring all I could because "it's a Tetsucabra? what is there to fear?"), forgetting to eat again and having carted once. Took a lot longer to get one of those highs in risebreak, that's for sure. Now that I have a proper switch ax, shit is doing much quicker and hope it will let me get to early rank 4. Also, went to the mushroom quest to get a surprise Glavenus moment, read he's stupidly inflated in that fight, so debating if I want an honest try to hunt it or if I should pass. Will probably give it a go, was also the first time I felt like an absolute badass with aerial switch axe, barely hitting his mouth when spitting or biting only to leap above it and cleave it's side, starting to feel the fantasy. I'm also appreciating what people meant with risebreak making you too mobile, the get out of jail free card not being there is noticeable, but I don't mind it.

A progression question to all of you. Should I just do village quests till I hit high rank and then swap to hub quests?

Oh @Markorian lord of the Switch Ax, got some additional questions. So I'm used more or less to the aerial switch ax moveset now. My biggest question is if the Leaping elemental discharge is worth it. My most reliable damage play is to use the Damage Boost hunter art, force a topple and then go ham with the ground Sword combos (not sure if triangle combo or circle combo are best *I'm using a ps4 pad for reference*).

Monster hunter fanbase is always like this.
The MH community is beyond retarded. Non-stop games. A movie, other media, collabs. Few franchises could fucking dream of the scope and legacy of MH and yet seethe once a new game drops. Like being a die-hard fallout fan and hating 76 but being okay with FO4 while praising 2. Why? Just fucking beat it once and move on with your life.

That said, Wilds is terrible. Two different anti-cheats taking away 30% of your fps. Absolutely horrid UI to the point I don't know the difference between a environment link, a link party and a squad. I've had to manually look around the map to find the guy I'm meant to talk to for a quest because there's no instinctive pin "hey nigga go here", and yet there was a few times? Imagine every fifth quest in an mmorpg having you ask the guards.

I want to enjoy it. I keep reinstalling it whenever I get tired of it, but I can't. Right now I'm just hunting for cosmetics cause I built an artian weapon of every sorts. I don't even know if they're better than the normal weapons but given how many hitboxes clip and skip around, it won't matter if shit won't register. I love my palico and all the funny tools but it has -zero- customization of which we were spoiled with in Rise.

I've done the cosmetic/side type shit achievements, to what ends? I think I got a nameplate skin that you'll see like once at the end of a hunt. Wowee. No apartment of my own to decorate either. What am I here for, unironically? To hunt on repeat? "That's what MH is!", yeah maybe in your PS2 days. Look at the last few titles, they all had some kind of cosmetic depth to them. World had a ton, Rise had less (but at least had palico hunting and customizing). Wasn't Wilds meant to be the A-team game? The big one?

Wasn't Wilds meant to be the A-team game? The big one?
From what I understand, the A-Team went from the big one to the mass appeal one, and mass appeal means cutting edge graphics and a narrative that nobody gives a damn about which bloats development times. It's why I'm very intrigued with what team B will put out, will they also be forced to follow the high fidelity fad or can they go with a more artistic presentation which will allow a better development cycle?

What do you all think about the monsters choices in this game? As in, almost all the monsters are new, and most of those returning are remade for NuMH for the first time.

I am very glad they're trying to make mostly new monsters instead of endlessly nostalgia baiting old ones. But it obviously takes more time to do that, so you'd think they'd supplement it with some returning monsters that were remade for Iceborne to help with the low monster count, at least to give you more stuff to fight at the end of the game. I was glad to see Rathian and Rathalos have much more going on.

Many of the returning monsters are such weird choices. Fucking Gypceros? Why do I ever have to see this thing again? Yian Kut-ku? I thought monster packs were supposed to be something they were trying to do this time, wouldn't it make more sense to bring back Qurupeco who can call monsters and is basically just Yian Kut-ku but 5x more interesting? Why bring back Blangonga but do nothing whatsoever to make him interesting or a threat? Just weird. I'm curious what people think.

Overall, your circle attack string with the double slash is gonna a be your best source of dps for just about any style other than striker (which lacks it entirely), but triangle is good for getting in quick hits and has better range, which can be useful for getting a tail cut, or a quick strike on a more spastic monster or something like a rathalos that's flying around. Don't sleep on the axe chop combo though, aerial isn't as tethered to sword mode as other styles might be, other than for your vaulting attack itself.

Kut-Ku is still filtering noobs from what I see in various places. Warms my heart. These people will bow to their Senei whether they like it or not.

Overall i don't have any real issues with the choices themselves, I just question the reasoning that went into them.
Except Gravios. I fucking hate this cunt. Always have. And his stupid bear noises.
