Yeah, it's so awesome Capcom can't figure out how to port to PC still and needs to make an "open beta" for it. It's an alpha at best with the model bugs and frame issues.

played a bit. it was alright. ran OK on my 3080 but there were still some graphical pop ins here and there. it took me like 40 minutes to kill an alpha doshaguma. is that suppose to be normal?

not a day one buy from me.

How? I was distracted and still fiddling with settings mid hunt, and ended up in the 15-20 minute range for my first hunt, and like half of that was just following the fucker around since it wouldn't stay in one place.

No it is a open Beta to catch shit like this.

A beta is not a DEMO. It is used to test the infrastructure and issues like this before the game is released.

A lot of people seem to have just now figured out what a beta is and why they exist, apparently.

A decade later and things have yet to change, enjoy your pre-order.

No idea. i kept hitting it with the hammer. The head, the weak spots but the thing refused to die. it did run away alot witch was also annoying.

Played some more, dropped resolution to 720 and windowed to not have everything grainy as fuck. Still stutters but at least I was getting closer to a consistent 30 FPS. Performance is still wretched though and from what I read, a Steamdeck wants to kill itself trying to run it. Hoping Capcom manages to improve performance, but not holding my breath.

Better impression on this second session. First thing I like is that you can just chain hunts and that Alma is pretty much stuck running around with you, so you can instantly do multiple hunts, be it by just annoying the wildlife or asking for alma to give it to you then and there if you don't have a proper reason to go to main base. I'm also having proper fun with it, but don't ask me if it's more fun than U4, world or risebreak since my shit performance makes it a hard question to answer.

The chocobo piloting itself... is mixed. I prefer the palamute, but being able to attack from atop the chicken made the bow be an incredibly safe way to hunt, though thankfully Ru Dau or whatever the fuck lightning guy is called taught me that you can't just kite everything, but the early monsters definitely and it will be a rude awakening for new hunters that clutch on this. Also, very big map and all that jazz, but what actual value does it have if my chocobo has an autopilot feature and as per usual it's just to grab materials? And monsters all appear in the map even if unknown, so it's not like you have a reason to fuck around in the map with the hope of bumping into something surprising. Basically, don't see the point of having such big spaces. I do love being able to swap weapons on the chocobo though.

Now I think I got a better handle of the bow and then to spice things up grabbed the ol Greatsword. I saw what others said of "lack of impact". Landed a few true strike slashes but it didn't feel as meaty as when I pulled it off in World. Something was missing there, aside from that, well, it's greatsword, didn't really get too enthralled by the focus system with it.

The wound system, all I'm gonna say if you somehow accumulate bunch of them on monsters. Then using focus attack, it's fun to see bunch of damages pop up even if attack animation (Lance for example) doesn't hit the wound spots. For some reasons, focus attack for Insect glaive damage does way too much in that case.
Not sure what is with Doshaguma, a bit annoying to have relying on focus strike aim to hit monster precisely with Lance. please hit the head not torso. I have bad feeling like some weapons may relying on focus strike aim a lot.
And while I'm talking about focus, yeah, definitely different weapons will like it more than others. With Arrow it basically lets you shot homing arrows that explode all active wounds plus whatever you have marked with a tracer arrow and immediately follow it up with a true charged arrow. So it's a festival of very low effort damage for bow and seem like it's key to get big numbers. With the greatsword it felt a lot more cumbersome. I would just start flailing around the greatsword for a multi chop that looks kind of dopey, manage to heat a wound point and it would just pop. Clearly based on the viral outbreaks on Rise, but not feeling the fantasy of "I attacked with snipa precision!". I also never got any of those fancy attack counter slash attacks from the promo videos, so no idea how those work. Basically, as of now, Focus seems like it will be annoying for melee unless you spaz out all over the place and free damage with bow at least. Kind of dread monsters health pools being bloated due to accounting for focus bursts.

I've ignored the slinger except for throwing shit to disperse packs which I have only seen it once and it already annoys the shit out of me that it's a necessity.

I skipped every single cutscene and the few segments that were story and without cutscene I blasted through, though off the bat, everyone that is not the handler and smith looks ugly. The NPC with the lost girl from the little I caught, the dude looked like a faggot and the daughter like a gremlin.

Oh important note, in sound you can change your palico to sound like a palico is fucking supposed to sound, so that's nice.

The monsters themselves, the Cabra, worm thing and bear with ugly face are low rank fodder, barely worth mentioning and the palico was healing me like mad so never felt much in danger of carting. Ra Dua is a lot meaner, I only tried it once solo, carted and the fucker banished. I did join to help in a hunt and managed to help take it out, but the host had clearly already done some work and gotten the tail cut and I get the impression that a big part of Ra Dua being an asshole is thanks to a lot of those tail attacks. I did notice something weird as fuck, it has a tail slam of sorts that throws a lightning surge that did like half my life damage, but my character did not react to it and it seemed jank. I also noticed the life bar shitting itself to warn you about lethal attacks, don't know how to feel about that, on one hand it was definitely useful, but on the other MonHun is already holding your hand pretty damn hard. Also, once hunted it dropped like 4 shinnies, so nice of Capcom to give a false sensation that you are going to get drops all over the place when they mean nothing  . It's designed is fine, but it still reminds me of Astalos for the most part and I prefer my disco rave dragon fly like wyvern.

Still definitely a not buy purely on performance and even then odds are I'll prefer a whole package experience like what I got with Risebreak. But I have a better feeling about it now than when I played earlier. I'll give it another go and see if I can solo hunt Ra Dua, maybe swap to another weapon for shits and giggles.

Performance issues aside, continuing to not have contextual keybinding is baffling, especially when it seems like it's present for focus mode - shift is for sheathing and sprinting, but if I hold the focus button it becomes an attack. Why? Very aggravating that they can't or won't figure this out.

I don't like this iteration of the hunting horn either but it's so much better than Rise's that it's not even funny. Makes me wish they would just go back and replace it with the one in Wilds, because this one at least still kind of feels like HH.

Graphics optimization is piss-poor. I get that it's a "beta" but this is inexcusable.
The control menu is unpleasantly difficult to parse and it's a lot worse than even World.
Focus attacks on Hammer are going to drive me up a wall.

The basics of the game feel okay and it's grown on me as I've played the demo, but I pray devs get bullied out of using framegen and upscaling as a crutch to excuse poor optimization.

On the bright side, Rey Dau is a fun fight and the LBG submachine gun mechanic is a cool addition.

Hammer feels so short now. The uppercut just never goes as far as I want it to and trying to actually hit head wounds with the focus mode is almost never possible. I think for longer weapons it's much easier, like lance or gun lance. I also can't really figure out where the windmill charge attack fits. It's in a really uncomfortable spot between level 3 charge slam and Big Bang.

Well the game runs like absolute niggershit, as expected from a nip dev. Game's fun, but it's impressive how bad this game looks while barely being able to reach 50fps on a 2080TI.

In any case, damn that pussy nice

geez i guess my 1080 6GB wont do...
it has come the time to update.. maybe
idk if i have money for that in feb

Game looks great to me and runs just fine. I stay winning on that front. Sure hope these mats we get carry over to the full game. I've got so many Rey Dau plates and boltgems it'd suck to have to farm them again because fuck mantle and gem farming.

Idk what's up with palico but something is fucky and I only noticed it with Rey Dau. He'd switch aggro from me to, what I assumed, was absolutely nothing. Thought his AI was bugging out. Nope. He was switching targets to my palico which was, for some reason, now like 350 meters away despite having just been right next to me dropping a vigor wasp on me. A minor annoyance but still annoying. Makes me end up chasing the monster more often.

Also the sand nigger handler girl, Alma? They should probably change up what she does when you start combat. And her pathing in general. As is, she just rides the bird around in circles like a retard when fighting and early I watched her run into a wall for like 3 minutes in that little cove the Doshaguma Alpha sleeps in. Doesn't have any effect on anything, it just looks retarded.

Also also, capcom is afraid of big arms. Cranking your musculature to the max still leaves you with little twig arms. Gimme the Admiral's guns, you cowards. Let me be a human Rajang.

I also can't really figure out where the windmill charge attack fits. It's in a really uncomfortable spot between level 3 charge slam and Big Bang.
It is the Lv3 charge attack for hammer now. I mean as in "look at me, I'm the captain now" meme. And being the relative efficient spamming move to deal damage.
Wind up animation doesn't have hitbox, so can stand real close without accidental hitting. Also, you only need to hold special attack button while only short press for both right click + left click ( A+B, or X+Y).

worm thing
I hate Balahara the most. Similar issue with monsters AI being jackass flying all the times, instead Balahara decides swimming in the sand more. It's real fun to fight worm twisting its body in the sand in one of area with huge sand slope. For god sake, Capcom, slopes are annoying and they are being sand, so monsters attack will "clip" through the sand top.
Probably I was testing charge blade savage axe, couldn't hit properly without using focus mode. Let's say I'm bad, I feel like controlling characters now clunkier to aim some attack animation. Characters won't response nicely with directional on keyboards, which is why I have bad feeling on some weapons may rely on focus mode way more. It's just that camera is already not that far away from your character, having to zoom in "all the time" feels more tunnel vision and restrictive.

got the game to run better after an hour of fucking with shit most of the stuff in the game is alright to cool and neat but two thing that stick out that i don't like are swimming being fake and gay and seeing monster on the map from the start like why they leave tracks still and there is way more of them on the map its very unnecessary hand holding and i must cope that its not careered over to the whole game.

cute palico clip
when your palico waifu is addicted to pishok bzzt

also whatts with the hyper low poligon stuff, a fun meme edit? (cmon cant be real, imma find out) awfully funny
