UFC cards look decent enough this weekend. Sean Woodson is on the prelims. He’s a 6’2” featherweight (145). Dude’s fighting style is so bizarre, it’s fun to watch.
For some reason, I thought 310 was wrapping it up for the year. Anyway, I feel Buckley v Covington is going to be more impactful than most are crediting it for. Both of these guys need this win. Buckley needs it to prove that he’s capable of hanging with the elite. Colby needs it to prove he is worth more than being relegated to gatekeeper of the WW division.
Power and activity versus cardio and experience. Buckley is definitely capable of getting Colby out of there in the first or second, but as the boot goes on, I feel as if the odds begin to heavily weigh in Colby’s favor. It’s really easy to shit on Colby because of his inactivity and loss record, but he lost to Prime Usman and put up a great fight in both contests. He came in with a minor injury versus Edwards which stifled his grappling.
Colby’s biggest crux was accruing the downtime due to the litigation versus Masvidal. Nearly two years out getting that stuff settled, and he was only fighting about per year prior to that. Cardio is only a good tool if you know how to utilize it, and ring rust is real.
I mentioned Colby winning would keep him from gatekeeper status. That, and being able to continue using the Kurt Angle theme.
