When I did dog rescue we had one come in who was being fed this. The previous owners said the dog was allergic to meat. We asked the vet about that, and while dogs can develop allergies to certain proteins (beef and chicken are common), he'd never heard of an allergy to "meat".

We put the dog on Purina ProPlan (not even an expensive protein like kangaroo, or limited ingredient food) and he did just fine. Not even a bit of digestive upset.

It was determined that the owners were morons.

This shit reminds me of people who would buy reptiles but would get grossed out by the idea of bugs and frozen mice. There's always someone online asking if they could avoid feeding the creature what it actually needs. The common answer would be "Suck it up or return it".

More people should start telling cat and dog owners the same things. Dogs can survive on a plant based diet not thrive. Cats need meat. This food is actually killing their pets via malnutrition and they're simply going along with it because some guy on reddit said "dude trust me".

I have a question that I can't find a straight answer to, and I've asked vegans, vegetarians, vehement non-vegans, and impartial parties. If the sort of vegans doing it because, "EATING A HAMBURGER IS LIKE EATING UR GRANDMA!!1!!1!" believe that all creatures are equal (which is actually a belief I tend to agree with; it's just that animals eat each other too), then wouldn't they apply that belief to mean that since humans are animals as well, they can't use human-derived products either, like blood transfusions or plasma?

I work in the dairy industry, in a veterinary position. I recall attending a dairy welfare conference a few years ago that took place at a meat packing facility, where we were harassed by "activists" picketing and holding signs with pictures of calves on them with captions like, "WOULD YOU EAT A TODDLER? VEAL IS CRUEL!" and, "I never saw my baby again," "DOES THEIR RAPE AND ENSLAVEMENT MEAN NOTHING?" are a few I can recall. We more or less just pointed and laughed, but a few more impassioned members of our party tried to reason with them. It didn't work. We all got coupons for a roast after the tour and a few of the beautiful assholes I went with handed them out to the picketers ("Here, it looks like you need this more than I do.")

My very first experience with the ideology was from a little girl I was friends with in 3rd grade. She had been indoctrinated pretty throughly by her family, I would guess. I vividly remember having lunch with her and offering her my gummy bears, which was met with, "Did you know they melt horses to make those?!" Other snippets I recall include, "Some people actually eat bone marrow; that's so mean!," "Did you know that veal is baby cows?," and "There's ground-up whole chickens in your sandwich. They killed them alive." I wonder what happened to her, truly, and if she ever got past whatever (literal and ideological) bullshit her parents were feeding her.

I'm sure I've had plenty more experiences with vegan-kind, but they've all stopped having any degree of meaning anymore.

If they truly believed that all animals are equal and that the moral thing is to reduce the suffering of as many animals as possible, they wouldn’t be vegans.

In fact, they’re so pressed about this that they’ve SEO’d dozens on articles to the top of Google to argue that this claim is false without actually critiquing any of the fundamental arguments that the critics I’ll link below make.

Why do vegans even have pets? If they are vegans due to environmental concerns, pets result in more resources being used. Ethical vegans should worry about pets being a wild animals that humans assimilated and then bred selectively to use as tools and companions. Dogs and cats in vegan eyes are animal slaves bred to cater to human's whims. By their own logic, vegans should campaign against pets just the way they oppose other animal exploitation.
Common response is that each vegan draws his or her line wherever they want. Then they go around feeling superior and attacking others, while they give themselves exceptions for animal exploitation they are fine with. It would not be as bothersome if they then did not try to cram their cult down other people's throats and attack people who disagree. After all, meat eaters are just vegans that are ok with exploitation that includes eating animal products.

PETA believes this. Yeah.

Vegans are often comically ignorant about the animals they love so much and about nature in general, particularly when it comes to invertebrates. For instance, I often saw them ranting on reddit about how shellac, which is made from the wax secreted by female scale bugs, is horrible and unethical because harvesting it often kills the insects, seemingly unaware that female scale bugs are immobile and have an atrophied nervous system that probably doesn't provide them with any form of awareness. These morons think that every animal is as smart as an elephant.

I guess vegans relate strongly to scale bugs.

They only love "THE PLANET".

I love when they compare beekeeping to slavery.

Bees can fly. There is nothing forcing them to stay in that box. If they don't like it they can and will fly off to go make a new hive somewhere else. It's called absconding in the beekeeping world.

Beekeeping is probably one of the purest forms of mutualism.

Absolutely. It's even funnier when they try to claim that relatively rare or expensive practices (such as wing clipping for queens or artificial insemination) are actually widespread and the standard. The assolute heights of stupidity is when they talk about artificial insemination for queens and how le poor drones are ground up for it. Yeah, they're outraged over drones (that live only few days and die horribly even in nature) actually fulfilling their only purpose in life and impregnating a queen.

They need to go as far as they can or else risk being called hypocrites. If they didn't complain about the insects being killed then they'd have to draw the line somewhere else and you'd wind up with everybody having their own line and nobody would be on the same page. So they go well beyond what makes sense and say that somehow insects shouldn't be killed for shellac.

It's like clams. Very simple animals that don't have brains. They barely have a nervous system and in that they're more like insects in that they don't think so much as react to stimuli. Do they feel pain? Well... we don't know. All I know is they're delicious when combined with garlic, parsley, olive oil, white wine and tossed with linguine.

Yeah militant vegans are retards that try to equate animal ownership to slavery.

One time I read a post from somebody who referred to the breeding of dairy cows as "rape". In that they're forcefully impregnated against their will just to produce milk. As if cows had free will and when they go into estrus it's a biological reality that they will get pregnant if a bull is nearby.

I can't remember if I posted here but I saw a post about some guy who volunteered at a raptor rehabilitation center and felt bad that he feed wild birds mice because of specism or something.
