no1currI'm vegetarian currently, looking into veganism but unlike 99% of preachy tofu brats I keep my lifestyle/diet to myself. I don't expect anyone to conform to what I eat/do.

Why live in harmony with the world and enjoy the benefits of well cared for and loved domestic animals when you can euthanize them all (because that's what would happen if the world went vegan) and live on nothing but Kale and Tofu because massive swatches of pesticide soaked farmland never hurt any poor little animals.
Honestly, going pure vegan is retarded unless you are knowledgeable about how to do it. It's also ironically crueler to the domestic animal population since you shun their gifts; ie Wool, Milk, Cheese, and Honey. All of which the respective animals are happy with giving up, since they genuinely do produce too much of it.
I was just reminded of this particular bit from the Hitchhiker TV series, probably because I can imagine a vegan's reaction being worse than Arthur's:
Say the entire planet went vegan within a year. What happens to all the farm animals that are still alive?

It would result in a mass euthanasia the likes of which had never been seen before. Billions of suddenly financially nonviable animals destroyed worldwide and their corpses burned. The smoke and ash would probably have a noticeable effect on climate in the same way a major volcanic eruption does. With all those animals slaughtered a lot of species would become virtually extinct, especially as certain species, Frisian Cows for example now RELY on milking to survive, un-milked their udders will rupture and they will die. Many anguished farmers commit suicide as one or two did during the foot and mouth crisis here in England. Shortly afterwards the destruction of world heritage begins. In England for instance, Devon loses it's famous dairy fields as the dry stone walls are removed to make them fields viable for corn production. In the Amazon farmers who relied on beef herds for a living now turn to things like maize to feed an ever growing demand and the stripping of the rain forest accelerates. Fast food chains that relied on meat as a main menu item go bankrupt because nobody wants to eat a cabbage Big Mac or a Tofu Whopper, millions of jobs lost worldwide. In developed countries, Farmers unable to diversify are bankrupted, their lands purchased by those already equipped to convert them to vegan friendly crops. The economy takes a hit as super-farms thousands of acres in size and almost fully automated drive almost a billion people out of work world wide. Those worst affected march on government buildings, rioting begins and violence spreads as desperate people lose all control. Veganism has risen to prominence in a tidal wave of blood, suffering, hardship and pain but the world is now a better place because everyone eats Kale.Say the entire planet went vegan within a year. Reading all that cojones, I worked up a killer hunger, which I satisfy with a tasty salami. Humans are omnivores. Other animals (the human is an animal. The deadliest animal on this puny planet) are our food. If something is done to an animal that makes it's meat, milk, hide or some other component tastier, cheaper or otherwise more usable for the humans, it's OK. Pointless cruelty though is crap (e.g. bullfighting, cockfighting or kopi luwak).
What edge?Ow, the edge.
Lol u for real tho? What edge?
Yes.Lol u for real tho?
Shit like this is why gradualism is nearly always the way to implement any social change. Sudden, drastic changes are almost always hugely destructive and vastly harm the people (and animals) in the way of that change.
Even if someone supports abolishing the practice of meat-eating entirely, it clearly can't just be done all at once without vastly excessive cruelty.
Exactly. It would be like making a meth addict go cold turkey instead of gradually reducing their drug dependance and teaching them coping skills. The result is unbearable withdrawal symptoms that can actually be so intense that they kill you.

"Other people are fat, so that means it's okay that we're malnourished!"
Also, tons of fatty foods/drinks are vegan, such as french fries, chips, pasta, soda, and other such snacks.
Well, there's that one little thing they always forget about. What was it...?
...oh, right. Sugar comes from plants. You know, one of the major causes why everyone in america is so goddamn fat, besides from salt - which is also often vegan! obesity doesn't come from animal proteins, it comes from little exercise and shitty diets high in salt, sugar, and fat - like oil. Which, say it with me....is often vegetable based.
Sugar doesn't just include "sugar" it's pretty much all carbohydrates. In fact it's been shown recently that the old food pyramid, with grains at the bottom showing how you should eat lots of them and meats/fats at the top so you shouldn't eat them hardly at all, was one of the big contributors to obesity.
But hey, gotta buy votes in Iowa somehow.
