This isnt necessarily a comparison between MGS and TS itself but just this particular scene. Liquid more specifically, as I think Snake is 95% better in MGS with maybe the remaining 5 being the ocassional line coming off better or more natural given how its almost a giant second take of the same dialogue.

But for Liquid during this specific scene I think it encapsulates how Clarke plays him in both entries, in the original he comes off as far more reserved and even a bit sinister while the TS version is far more theatrical and expressive and to the credit of both, they both work in their own way but I think the "You enjoy all the killing, thats why!" is delivered better in TS as I couldnt imagine Liquid would be able to not go almost face to face with Solid and deliver that line right at his face (a limitation of PSX is that a few of the character animations can be a tad stiff but that was excusable). Besides, at that particular moment, he also wouldnt have a reason to not go full hammy (tho I'll admit that the harsh red lighting of the original and Liquid's slower deliveries almost makes it like both are in Hell, ontop a dead giant beast that was Rex).

I guess it stands for a reason they used the TS version of the line for the MGS4 achievement. It really works as almost make it seem like Liquid's ghost was mocking Solid by proving his point across again.

They used the TS dialogue for all of the flashback audio to MGS. Except for that one colonel AI crop circle bit.
Wasn't the low quality of the original recordings cited as a reason that they weren't reused before?

Edit:
According to Wikipedia...

"The voice acting was re-recorded with the original cast from Metal Gear Solid, except for the role of the Cyborg Ninja. David Hayter, the English voice of Solid Snake, persuaded Konami to have the original voice cast reprise their roles. [They cite an interview of David Hayter by Evil Avatar Radio here]. The main reason for the re-recording, according to an interview with Hayter, was because the increased audio quality allowed by the GameCube picked up outside noise from the original recordings that were inaudible in the PlayStation version"

I believe this was the "official" explanation, as they claim the audio was so bad you could hear cars in the background.

But as I've played MGS tons of times and never noticed this, I'm going to assume it's actually Kojima still being booty blasted over the localizer taking liberties with the script.

Did they retain the old audio for the master collection version then? I must play it and see

big boss should have kicked the everloving shit of sad sack old snake. dude died 3 fucking times and was still dapper as fuck
nah, Big Boss's very existence and inability to bury the hatchet with Zero caused David's life to essentially be one of total control and manipulation by forces outside of his knowledge or control, even through the events of MGS4, he's just a pawn.

Big Boss at least got to make his own choices and they were really his own, shitty as they were, David has every right to be a sad sack peice of shit, his life is a freakish nightmare.

Pretty much everything about Twin Snakes makes my blood boil except that new boss music. They gave Fox some tribal jungle bongos, it's like you’re back in Zanzibar Land or in a cyborg samurai's Vietnam flashback. Ocelot’s theme sounds like you’re about to get waterboarded and Wolf’s track is full of adrenaline.

Raven still sucks, though.

Venom's last words always stuck with me.
"In our struggle to survive the present, we push the future farther away." Visionaries unable to shape the future, forever trapped in battles with their past. A common tragedy, really.

I remember how when you searched soldiers you held up in Mgs4, that if you pressed the buttons in a sequence, you would get more stuff and the last button press was Snake crushing the guy balls so he passed out.
However, when you did it against the frogs, they would kick you in the face and call you a pervert.
MGS4 is so full of those small things.

If that's the case, why is the majority of the dialogue identical to the original localization?

David Hayter got axed literally just so Koji could wine and dine with Keifer Sutherland. It was retarded then and it's retarded now.
Hayter sounded like shit in peace walker (which I also just finished a replay of) and thought that he needed to actually smoke and drink hard liquor to do the snake voice, its not that hard to imagine Kojima wanting to give him the boot but i also think Kojimas intent to get Kurt Russell for big boss right from the start is retarded.

Kief is great when you can actually hear him as BB/V in Ground zeroes or V (Theres a mod that adds back a few smaller voice lines that add a lot to venoms characater imo) but its not enough to actually justify getting rid of Hayter.

Was that ever actually true? People said that and claimed its why the lead localizer for it stopped getting work but even when compared to the localizations Kojima actually played a part in they are basically the same. Didn't the guy also write up a blog post bragging about the changes too?

nah fuck that, Kojima would never, ever dream of re-casting the Nip VA for any of his characters out of respect, and Hayter earned him prestige far greater than any of his Japanese Voicework, David was THE voice of the games up to that point, almost 20 fuckin years of work and Kojima, at the finish line, dumped him for his Celeb worship bullshit.

you can see it clear as day with Death Stranding, its nothing but Celebs and directors wanking off, the ONLY one who showed up to do a job was Troy Baker.
Kojima deserved to be ousted from the company just for that last betrayal, I don't care if David sounded like dogshit.

Considering Hayter has moved on i dont see the point of being this mad over it.

I disagree

Kill yourself in real life, don't ever, especially IN a thread discussing autistic details about a game series they like, post shit like this, I can, and will choose to be serious or mad or invested in any topic I like, this is literally a forum where people are invested in going over the minutia of weirds on the internet, faggot.

David can say whatever he likes, he'll be nice and play ball so the doors to other jobs remain open.

The Twin Snakes is basically the same until it isn't, and then it's even more clunky and awkward and you get why the original localizer did what he did. (although I'll argue that evne the original script would sound like shit with the acting effort/direction they were given)

Honestly, I don't know if it's true that Kojima "hated it", because I've heard that up until the remake came out he was fine with it. Hell, he liked it enough to include the English VO as an option in the Integral re-release in Japan.

If I had to guess, it's just that Kojima is obsessed with sniffing his own farts so now that he has "his" version of the lines he will always use them even if they were acted/directed like shit.

Considering i only ever heard it from people who already hated localizations there probably is some truth being twisted.

Wasn't he not that involved with twin snakes outside of advice and telling them to not make the cutscenes accurate to the original?

I have no real problem with Kiefer VA in Ground Zero and Phantom Pain.
The biggest issue I have with his VA, is that He is not given any chance to show off his voice work.
Getting rid of Hayter for Kiefer and not using Kiefers acting skill is just.... stupid.
