If I had to guess, it's just that Kojima is obsessed with sniffing his own farts so now that he has "his" version of the lines he will always use them even if they were acted/directed like shit.
I get that Carson Clay was this parody of a Hollywood auteur but his character is seriously Kojima-coded. He cannot cope with sharing the spotlight.

Reminder that he tried to get rid out of Hayter before MGS3 because he wanted Kurt Russell as Snake.
He always thought Hayter was too "B" for high and mighty Kojima.
I like Kurt Russell, but he is not Snake.

I liked when Kurt Russell was asked about this in an interview, instead of being like "WTF are you talking about?" he legit was just like "Oh yeah, I didn't want to play a derivative character of Snake Pliskin"

Speaking about Pliskin, whatever happend to iroquois pliskin?
One of the great mystery of MGs2.

I have no real problem with Kiefer VA in Ground Zero and Phantom Pain.
The biggest issue I have with his VA, is that He is not given any chance to show off his voice work.
Getting rid of Hayter for Kiefer and not using Kiefers acting skill is just.... stupid.
If what I was told was to be believed, its because he was expensive per line, so Konami simply demanded he do the bare minimum in VA work because they were actively pissed about the cost of MGSV.

this game was such a problem for Konami they ejected their star director from their company forever, and shipped it unfinished.

Didn't Kiefer do all of his VA relative early into the production?

Kojumbo is a hack but people still regurgitating /v/ fanfiction about the English VA a decade later is retarded. Hayter has gone on record to say he only met Kojima in person once during his "tenure" as the Snakes' VA at some kind of MGS4 launch event in LA.

People project all kinds of retarded nonsense on to their "relationship" when Hayter was for all intents and purposes just a glorified anime dub contractor Kojima barely even knew existed. All the autistic focus people imagine Kojima had for the English VA was never even remotely real. The autistic effort was given to the original Japanese performances.

It's baffling how all Japanese media with an English dub has weaboos guntguarding the heckin original nipponese dub except for MGS, even though that was the one Kojima was directly involved with and actually adjusted his writing to accomodate. (Eg. in MGS4 casting Nip Snake's IRL dad as Big Boss and using the game as an excuse to try mend their relationship which was on the rocks.) I'm no subfag but MGSfags treating the actual intended dub as an afterthought is the reason why these retarded narratives about jealous Kojima betraying chungus Hayter still exist.

The first time Kojima was directly involved with the casting and voice directing for the English performances was MGSV, the last MGS game under him. The only time he tried to get involved with the dub prior was asking if Kurt Russel could be cast as Snake for the MGS3 dub, which ended with a fat no and so did his involvement at the time. Hayter being cast as Snake was entirely down to Kris Zimmerman, the English voice and casting director for the series. Her involvement can't be understated, half the shit Kojumbo is accused of are in fact her doing.

For example, take this nonsense about the Twin Snakes dub being used because Kojima is an asshole that wanted to bury the OG PS1 dub or something. He had fuck all involvement with TS. But you know who was the voice director for TS? Kris Zimmerman, the same woman who was the voice director for the PS1 game and every other game in the series. She would've been the one to decide to use the TS VA going forward, and obviously not because she's the secret asshole that wanted to burry the PS1 dub. She just used the one that had higher audio fidelity and more up to date direction (aka no ching chong or br*t*sh accents for Mei&Naomi).

This whole Hayter - Kojima - Kiefer saga of betrayal and jealousy is 99% autismo headcanon. [INSERT:source_my_dream.webp]

Oh, and bonus: This may be hard to believe for the autistic, but Hayter physically appearing in MGS4 had fuckall to do with Kojumbo also. The live action skits were outsourced to some advertising company in California and the American Konami rep producing the skits really wanted the English voice actors to be cast in the skits.

It's a big ol' coinkydink.

That IS the problem unfortunately Keifer's price per word is too high.

Mei Ling's accent was fucking silly and made no sense, she was born and raised in the US.
Snake-san! You think you are tough but you no save, you go kaboomy! But careful! Enemy very sneaky, like dumpling in pot!

So many MGS alumni are in Grandia II. Kim Mai Guest kills it as the sinister priestess. And then you skip ahead to MGS4 and she’s bland. No accent, no info babe either, just reading lines.

Downloading an emulator for Portable Ops, any you'll niggas who haven't played it really should. It's a better successor to 3 in that it has a better story, foreshadows the later games really well and ties in to MG1 perfectly IMO. It also plays and controls much more like MGS3. I think Kojima's insistence that it was only semi-canon was because he genuinely wasn't sure how much it impacted the stort of PW at this point (it was in the run up to PW's release that he made that comment) and wanted to err on the side of caution unless there were blatant inconsistencies he forgot about it. It also makes PW kind of pointless because both games have the same premise: showing Big Boss becoming the private military warlord hero he is in the later games.

The only jarring details IMO (minor spoilers) are that Sokolov is still alive and also that you can end up recruiting pretty much all of the Patriots/Snake Eater team (and even Raikov) in the late game. I think the former point is far from the most outlandish thing that has happened in MGS franchise at this point, and the latter is obviously just a product of how they wanted to cram many bonus characters in there, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. MGS2 Raiden and Old Solid Snake are also available. I will say that run and gunning with a shotgun as Major Zero is a treat.

Grey Fox, Gene and Python are all great characters in it (Dwight Schultz performance as Python is brilliant)

The abducting and recruiting enemies with unique stats for different departments to grant you buffs was first implemented in this one. The futon balloon wasn't a thing yet though, you have to drag the enemies to a truck at the start of each area instead (or make use of some perks that help, such as one that let's you drop it to one your comrades hidden nearby instead who will then  teleport transport the enemy back to the truck. Other soldiers can also spawn with a perk that makes them drag bodied faster I highly recommend availing of both of these)
