Mega Rad Gun Thread

ive said it before and will say it again these AWBs are heinous totalitarian level shit yet the sheltered people that support them dont even use their fucking brains when they yap on about them. it's all based on feelings "ohmygawd we have to do something!!!111!1!!!" so they latch on to the imagery and most surface level shit rather than what actually causes mass shootings and violent crime. republicans don't do shit to reverse any of this when it's already been put into place and their solutions are often just as feels based as that of the democrats.
democrats: "just ban the guns"
republicans: "just ban people from being crazy"
you can't do either. neither "solution" works.
back to the AWBs there are a LOT of fudds in these states who have pre-ban mega illegal stuff in their basements that could get them decades in prison because they haven't checked up on the laws. in some of these states if an assault weapon or unregistered pistol is found in the home of someone on their fucking deathbed they have to take that person and arrest them for it. yet the fudds don't care even if you do tell them about the laws, "well im a good guy i do the right thing they won't take me". if you're a good guy and you do the right thing, great, good for you keep doing that but the unjust prosecution unfortunately won't care.

When I worked patrol in LE almost every criminal I actually caught with a firearm was absolute dogshit. Glocks were the absolute highest quality gun you saw and most were Taurus or Kel Tec. I only saw a pistol loaded with JHP once. Half the time the mag was full of FMJ and often not even fully loaded.

If you see a rifle it’s a PSA or worse and random dogshit Dracos.

Criminals almost never have good firearms.

Because most of these guns are sourced from theft. They do a daylight smash and grab and scoop up anything gun-shaped in the house.

Seen a lot of photos of seized weapons where they'll line the ammunition that was inside a magazine up and it will be like random grab bags of FMJ, ball ammo, etc.

I remember seeing one photo not that long ago, can't find it now, from a news article about a bust and the seized weapons laid out on a table included what looked like a Hi-Point, a rusty Colt 1903 with rubber bands wrapped around the grip, an old Iver-Johnson revolver, a sawed-off bolt action small caliber rifle that had duct tape wrapped around the cut-down grip and such. You'll see plenty of photos of weapons from busts and so many times I've seen older guns that have been "modified", cut down, etc., as well as the most "special" of Saturday Night Specials from years past.

what the gen 2 python is doing to the old prices:

that's barely more than I paid for my 3 inch gen 2.
Some guns have value in their status as originals, the people who were keeping the price of the original pythons up are people who just wanted a python. New or old doesn't matter and the new ones are probably more durable.

Potentially unpopular take on rare expensive guns: the P7 is not that great it's a meme gun, it's heavy for a single stack and even heavier in double, the trigger is fucky and the recoil isn't pleasant like a PPK's.

The new ones absolutely are more durable. Colt is using a stronger grade of steel, they beefed up the frame, and they simplified the action to eliminate the stacking issues with the trigger the originals were known to have when fed a regular diet of magnum ammunition. I recently read a write-up from a guy who bought a couple of new Pythons and wanted the actions tune. They called up Colt to see if they'd do it and they actually recommended him to a gunsmith who specializes in tuning Colts both old and new. When talking with this gunsmith, it was the gunsmith's opinion that the new Pythons are superior to the old ones overall. The old ones have nicer triggers out of the box, but the build quality, durability, and reliability of the new ones is superior in his opinion.

Probably spoke to Mike Heffron of Heffron precision. I plan to get my colts tuned by them.

I run Gen 3 Pmags but want some metal ones for storage. Any recommendations? Thanks.

In my opinion don’t. PMAG’s can be bought for so cheap online.

Style is the only reason I have some metal mags in the box. PMags are better in pretty much every way and so cheap it's hard to argue for other options.
Aluminum mags are easier to carry in that they are thinner and lighter. back in my LARPing days my chest rig would not easily fit 2 PMAGs in the double pouches were 2 aluminum mags easily fit. with the PMAGs i was just as likely to pull one and have the second come too and fall to the ground.

people say the aluminum mags are fragile but I never had a problem. I used them in the woods and mountains and dirt and leaves make a good soft floor for them to fall on. maybe everyone else was dropping them on concrete or something? or using beat up surplus mags?

Aluminum with PMAG followers are the way to go I figure. I was always able to get aluminum mags for the same price or cheaper than PMAGs.

If you get USGI aluminum mags make sure it has the anti tilt follower. This can be identified by the follower being tan and not green.

I was told to get a wide variety of different mags just to ease any compatibility issues you might have with different or out of spec lower receivers. PMAGS are probably the best, but there is something about the aesthetics of metal mags for me.

You can get PMAGS for sometimes as cheap as 10 a mag.

LARPing is fun but he’s not going to Kandahar province and can buy gear designed to handle PMAGS.

The shoulder rig for my Staccato finally arrived today. Ordered it on the 5th of July of last year. Apparently Kevin at Nightingale Leather has been having some bad chronic back issues and it has been negatively impacting his ability to stay on top of his work. Definitely worth the wait.

I was using the M81 pattern ELBE kit/chest rig and a PASGT vest at the time and a yugo (?) knock off M1 helmet. It was all cheap. I spent all my money on my LMT rifle and the Stiener optic on it. I wish i had all the money i spent on that bullshit back. I didn't enjoy one second of it, never learned to like ARs but I was just convinced by the media I was being presented at the time that i was going to be killed in da streetz if i didn't have all that shit.

I sold it all for muzzleloaders, shotguns and deer rifles and am much happier from it. I still use a ALICE belt, pouches and suspenders on long hikes to get the weight of my pistol off my omega fucked back. The compass pouches can carry 2 speed loads of .44, .45 or .357 easily. USGI 2qt canteen is my go to canteen. it just works.

style is everything. the 20 round mags are distinguished similar to how our AK friends owning bakelite mags is a statement. the stupid gold/TiN mp5 mag i own makes me smile like an idiot every time
