Also worth mentioning that with Mega Man X5 and onward into the Mega Man Zero games, the boss names became a lot weirder, likely due to lazy translations.
It's not even a "lazy translation" issue. Most of the bosses' names are pretty much the same in both Japanese and English. It's more of a design issue, because someone decided each of the bosses' names should be based upon the characteristics and cultural/historical inspirations for their individual designs. A bit of a distinctly Japanese "rule of cool" influence is at play here too, because the more inspired yet nonsensical the naming convention is, the more appealing it seems to be as far they're concerned.

The only thing missing was a Maverick named after Tracii Guns but very few people know of his involvement (think Dave Mustaine and Metallica). That was also Axl the Rosered's fault.
Apparently the OG voice actress for Claire Redfield had enough sway to insist that the X5 bosses' names should be localized into Guns N' Roses references as a tribute to her husband at the time because it was his favorite band.

So anyone here own the Mega Man X Complete Works? I was just wondering if anyone here thought it was worth the money because it's still a decent price so deciding if I should buy it or not.

They also darkened the screen on X4's intro to an absurd degree for "accessibility for epileptics" despite not changing the fucking constant particle effect madness and flashing lights in the game itself, and crudely cut the the roman salute out of it due to the "similarity to the nazi salute and reminder of more racist time something or other"
Personally I'd say the best one to get would be the gamecube/ps2 X collection from fucking years ago and then buying x8 seperate, but I think x8 might have become one of those "SOOPER RARE TITLES!!!" people that don't even play games buy and sell at stupid high prices despite it being mass produced and readily available.

Just thinking out loud: have there been any hacks for the likes of X5, X6, and so on that just allows you to skip the fucking constant barrage of tutorials? X4 was great and I liked X5 but what stops me from replaying is the constant fucking tutorials telling me the obvious. It seemed to be an idea by Inafune that you have to hold the hands of players constantly.

I took a cursory glance at eBay because I was curious if this happened to X8, but apparently not. PS2 copies are selling for $15-25, which honestly isn't too bad, and when you consider how fucking terrible the retro game market is right now that's almost a steal.

Thats cheaper than what I saw it going for a few years ago, pretty good shit honestly. Surprised they never did a followup to X8 when the whole plot was more or less "a bunch of new robots were made that were immune to sigma virus but it was actually because sigma's data was part of their base programming. Of course, this means they slowly began morphing into insane sigma duplicates because sigma is a fucking bastard and it was part of his plan." Sure, the brief line at the end about the programming chips going back into production a few years after despite the incident with the robots they made using the chips is just a setup/excuse for the next game that never came but Every few years the last decade or so they've teased an X9 possibly coming out soon, it's about as notorious in reputation as Ape escape 4 in that sense. As for whether or not the X9 we may or may not ever end up getting would even acknowledge the sigma cloning via internal corruption or not is way up in the air. maybe it'll just end up Like the "dr. wily is still alive" subplot of the X games where they just lightly reference his existence but never outright have him show up and go "EY ZERO IT"S ME YOUR FATHA REMEMBER?"
Megaman lore in general is pretty funny, even when it gets a bit more serious in the X games.
The entire series starts because Wily gets pissed Lights getting all the credit for their collab work so he reprograms their best robots to just fuck shit up for him and fucks off to his skeleton fortress, Light converts rock into megaman who beats his ass and he's like "OK I WON'T DO IT AGAIN PLEASE DON"T BEAT MY ASS MEGAMAN" only for him to then proceed to build 8 robots specifically to kick megaman's ass and then when that fails he pretends he was actually an alien the whole time till megaman just breaks the hologram machine and he goes "OK I WON"T DO IT AGAIN PLEASE MEGAMAN". Repeat constant hijinks like this for over 20 games or so (counting the gameboy games here as they aren't ports but share the titles for some reason) And eventually Light starts making X, Wily gets wind of that and is like "HAHA FUCK YOU I'LL MAKE A BETTER ONE" And proceeds to make zero. Somewhere within this timeframe Megaman goes missing because dr. Wily from the PAST goes to the FUTURE where wily has stopped doing his scheming shit, probably because he's spending most time making his robot to kick lights future project robot's ass and convinces him to kidnap megaman and send him to the past which he does and thus Quint happens. Megaman kills himself in perpetuity looper style, Wily technically wins because megaman is still dying in the end though it's against himself trying to supposedly prevent a doomed future in Quint's mind. Wily wins with Zero Vs. X as well though partly due to just circumstance, his creation outlives X and even at one point has to fight and destroy his original body (athough it apperently was modified ) that had some doomsday plotting asshole's robot's AI put in it as part of his doomsday plot. Said guy wasn't wily but served narratively as a twisted reflection of what wily could have been with the right circumstances.
This came out a lot more rambly than anticipated but I'm multitasking out the ass over here and it's a tunnel of loud sounds and movement pretty much in terms of general environment.
Local Gamestop has a used copy of the Mega Man X collection for Switch that has all of the MMX games for about $20. Should I get it? I never played any of the MMX games save for 1 and 2 and I only played MMX2 a couple of times at a relative's house and didn't get very far in it.
