The actual way to do a Metroidvania would be Aria of Sorrow style: have X pick up the Z-Saber at the start and the Soul system adapted to his Buster. Zero can be a Julius.

You would still get X8 demake style bitching though.
 
I recently did a replaythrough of ZX and it's fun for what it is, but it has major flaws that no amount of lore and story can make up for and i'm convinced most people glazing the game only give a shit about the character designs and story more than the gameplay itself

I would have liked ZX more if Vent and Aile hadn't been separate characters. They should have just given one of them the X medal, one the Z medal, split the others, and go fuck shit up together. That's all the lore we want.

Well, X may be fucked in doing a Metroidvania due to the need to also have a Zero option (though he could be like Rickard, a fun character to use postgame to fuck around and break the system) but classic Mega Man doesn't have that problem since Bass or Proto Man have never been enough of a deal to be considered headliners. A metroidvania with a classic Mega Man theming would be neat.

Can you blame them when IntiCreates themselves are on record as being like that?

The explains a lot... I've only played Gunvolt 1 and had to force myself to finish it (which is very far away from completing it). Cool aesthetics for a teenager, but the gameplay loop with marking and zapping never clicked with me.
 
ok, I'm playing X5 using the MMX LC from steam, and I just learned that there's an auto charge and rapid fire in the options. if i have known this earlier, X6 would be easier to play for me.

also, I now hate X5 more than X6, I don't know if its because of steam, or the RNGGods doesnt like me, but everysingle thing i did, I still fail the enigma and the shuttle no matter what i do, always leading to the bad end. fire quickly after the tutorial, fail, gather all enigma parts fail. i just fucking hate it

also, i hate the item collecting here more than x6. x6 was a little more straightforward i guess? x5 feels like you always need a certain item or certain armor to get the items in the game. it just sucks

And this is where the X5 Improvement project comes in, it's a romhack for X5 that while I don't think it pushes the game up there with X1 or 4 in terms of quality, it makes the game way more tolerable and removes a lot of bullshit (like the enigma and shuttle failing)

this also reminds why I really fucking hate these collections, it could be an opportunity to fix some of the issues with these games and make them the definitive way to play them but almost always that's not the case, they just add some random bullshit on the side and call it a day
if some random autists can fix the problems with X3, X5, and X6, there's no reason why devs can't do it, especially as the improvement projects for X3,5,and 6 are objectively better than the normal games
 
Funny enough, the reason that various aspects were not improved in the collections is rumored to be because Inafune thought they would interfere with sales of future Maverick Hunter X titles.

You know, which never happened.
 
Yeah, I heard that Maverick Hunter X was a reason for the collection not being as good as it could’ve been. Which makes it all the more ironic that that game failed in terms of sales.

Honestly, Inafune really had his priorities set in the wrong areas. Which carried on to his mishandling of Mighty No. 9.

For that matter, given that both MHX and Powered Up had debuted on a then new handheld only to flop, I wouldn’t be surprised if that is why Capcom pulled the plug on Legends 3, as it was looking to suffer the same fate.

no they pulled that for complete BS capcom exclusive reasons lke they did every other megaman game till megaman 11. They'd announce/tease a game, get t to basically finished state, then cancel it constantly. MML3 was the frst one to suffer that fate but t's cancellation is infamous because they blamed lack of interest for a game that had actual "this will sell well 100%" amounts of hype behind it's release. Powered up and maverick hunter X were high effort remakes of games people already owned and not something new, hence why they more than likely dd not sell as well as the then available collections.

For a 3ds example of a game that was similar to powered up/maverick hunter x, Cave story 3d (not the eshop version) sold like shit because it was 40 dollars as opposed to normal cave story which was either free or like 10 dollars. It also got pulled from shelves over influencers winging about the 3d sprite animation style aesthetic graphics. This shit pissed me off back when that happened because the VERY SAME PEOPLE only a few months later were fucking praising smash bros. U megaman for doing the exact same fucking thing when they were calling the frame by frame sprite style animations "lazy" earlier. Same "detailed/greebled sprite proportions" models going on too between them.

There's an honest to God shot not even this would be enough. There's drama in the X Dive mod server recently because the reconstruction of Rathalos Armor X got a slight buff to the range on his spinning slash. People are flipping that it might not be 100% exactly like the original, which was a fairly crappy skill because of it.

The problem is, there wasn't this kind of bitching when Vergil Trigger Zero was looking like he was going to be heavily buffed by removing his Vergil-like flourish that delayed being able to spam a skill. The head of the server who was involved in both projects is apparently quite pissed at this odd inconsistency.
 
ok, i officially hate x5 now. i only used to play it with Ultimate Armor back then so i didnt care too much about it, but now im trying to get all the stuff and doing it without the armor and the head Gaea Armor part is fucking fucking retarded
 
You really have to use the patch for it, because it opens up more options for progression.

It also guarantees shuttle success with all parts if I recall, while fixing the translation in all but one area.
 
unfortunately, Im using the steam version....

anyway, its official, I just suck at video games, i am now as old as Arino kacho when he beat Gunstar Heroes and Rockman 1 and he beat the Yellow Devil boss without the select trick and I couldnt do both of those

If you get to X6, you'll hate it more. All the issues with collecting parts in X5 but with worse development decisions. As much as the patch mod for X5 helps that game out, the one for X6 is the only way to make it playable without losing your shit.

I feel bad for X5 & X6. There's good ideas within, but they needed more time to polish them out than what they got. X7 however deserves to be hanged, drawn and quartered.

There's sadly just no reason to buy the collection because it is an active mistake to not emulate the first six for all the patches. It's just how it is.

As for X5 and X6, they were honestly just victims of X4 being heavily overproduced with nonsense like the anime FMVs. People do not realize this, but much like MMZ3, X4 did not actually sell that well despite being a fandom favorite; X5 apparently matched it despite the obviously much lower budget.

I don't remember - it was a while ago, and I stopped playing to focus on other endeavors. I know it used the Japanese names for opponents, which imo is kind of unnecessary. That might just be a "no duh" thing for a retranslated patch, though.

Maybe the base ROM I used is the issue. Some ROMs are just fucky - I played a SMB ROM that went to a bullshit level (0-1) and it wasn't a particularly dated emulator. Apparently it's a pretty common faulty dump, too.

Ah, I would have to check. I use the American naming patch. Could be an issue with the exact patch.
