It "mutated" in space, came down back to Earth, and settled into Zero's capsule, where it proceeded to leak out. Wily sealed Zero because he had a brain problem that made him berserk, and Wily could not fix it.

When Zero fought Sigma, the virus turned Zero from berserk/evil to good. Almost everyone else had a standard effect. There's a little more in that Sigma was also special in that it somehow turned him into an MMZ Cyber Elf, which is how he kept coming back.

That's the story. It's all an accident caused by Roboenza. Wily's Fortress in Mega Man 10 is on a space elevator.

So are you saying Sigma is the Cyber Elf in the Zero series? I was under the impression that he simply ceased to exist due to having a solution to the Maverick Virus. He degrades mentally in every game, from what I remember reading; he gets stronger physically but he becomes progressively more insane.

Then again, the story's a hot mess.

The Mother Elf was created by Ciel's great-grandmother out of some substance in Zero's original body. It somehow had the power to rewrite Reploid DNA, and this was how it was able to fully kill Sigma.

Ciel is a born supergenius due to her great-grandmother, and also went through genetic augmentation.

it was mostly inti doing it on the word of inafune, if professor F could make MMX again then the zero series can be retconned into being a bad energy tank trip just to hear ina's kvetching from the distance, especially since legends doesn't even make any nods to zero, only that shit got fucked up back then and now the people are exploring the ruins of the ancient times of homo sapiens and robotics, elysium is like a space station but far advanced when compared to a MMX/MMZ space station, with sigma becoming an elf he meant this, funny thing is that it was named sigma virus instead of elfshit.

The Replisoul concept was better because it didn't have that weird uwubean aesthetic. Imagine Sigma looking like a little pixie with an uncharacteristically masculine (considering the Zero series art style) giant head. I can't imagine that looking good.

Maybe they could find something to do with Axl if they retcon the Zero series. I don't think anybody really cares about him and he has no relevance again until ZX.

Yeah, true. I spent money on that turd and didn't get anything to show for it because the version for the console I had (I think it was Vita?) was cancelled. 60 dollary-doos down the shitter. I was involved very slightly in helping them try to dig up dirt - apparently you could add alt text to the forum posts, so you could hide nastygrams in the posts if someone hovered over the text. I left because the person heading it (the MMZ fangirl) had admitted to deliberately starting shit with other people on the project to make them uncomfortable.

I'm actually shit at platformers, so I don't typically bother playing the games. I like reading the wikia for it, though. Gameplay for the classic Mega Man series just didn't grab me; I at least partially attribute it to not growing up with the series.
