I'm not sure why people would like this show aside from the usual edgy exoticism of shows where the entire cast dies violently.
That's why, plus it's proto-isekai. The only significant contexts in which Dunbine is mentioned are as the first fantasy isekai anime and as a Tomino show. It's neither here-nor-there among 80s Sunrise mecha and it copies the same 0079 setup Ideon improved upon. It doesn't even have any merits for design; Visionaries and Nexo Knights have better future-fantasy designs.
This show's a way rougher start, though. The mecha animation is so clunky it reminds me of Transformers even though I never watched the 80s show. Also the MC pulling the "No Means Yes" routine to court the show's main girl is not something I want to be seeing.
I checked out after about 10 episodes. The robots are ugly, and the setting is wasted. It feels like it should either be a kids' show or ultra-experimental, tightly written sci-fi with the animal guy and tail people, but instead it's a moe anime (the character designs make it obvious), and nobody needs to watch a moe anime. Which Way to the Ends of Time by Michael McCollum does a similar premise much better.

I'm gonna stick up for Orguss, yeah it's def not as solid as (the good parts) of the other Superdimensions, but it's still not anything super awful.

It is deservedly a c-list show, and the fact it never made it into Robotech is mind-boggling, almost as much as how it rarely showed up in SRW when the entire premise is an excuse to SRW.
The show does pick up as the various factions get fleshed out and we learn more about exactly how much Kei fucked up the world, along with other things related to him fucking

seriously though Kei plows vag like he knows he has to make up for every kissless virgin loser pilot in a genre full of them

Orguss is also interesting for getting into stuff that robot cartoons, anime, or much of anything outside of Maude gets into.

I absolutely would put Orguss behind watching say, SDFM, the major Gundams, maybe at least _one_ non Gundam Tomino joint, and at least a chunk of Toeizinger, but it's got some fun stuff.

Also don't skip to Orguss 02 just to see the meme about the guy pretending.

The fact that Orgus 02 spawned two massive memes that still get posted today is mind-blowing.

I'd rate Orguss higher than Southern Cross though. Southern Cross is a thoroughly "meh" show and the Robotech version of it is legitimately easier to handle.

Shit, I tried to watch Orguss years ago and was too bored to continue. I've watched more anime (mecha especially) since then that I feel I would have a better time with it, just haven't made myself sit back down to watch.

Does it have some connection to Macross, though? I still haven't seen it.

Kinda. More just a general aesthetic connection and the fact that the Bronco II (the plane that was turned into Orguss) is called a variable fighter. But, otherwise, it's very much its own thing.

Doesn't Bright appear for two seconds on a screen in Orguss too?
I don't recall him but that sounds plausible.
Also I think one of the one-off gals Kei fucks is very overtly Minmay down to the hair curls, not just same designer?

17 episodes into Orguss.
First off: Taisho is what would happen if you made a character based off the "I identify as an attack helicopter" joke.
Second: Jesus this "You have to bear a child by 17 or you'll be barren and seen as an unperson" plot point is such a unbelievably bad and stupid writing turn. Also how the hell have the Emarn managed to thrive as a species if this is how their biology works? Hell, wasn't this bullshit the plot of an episode of Star Trek: Voyager if I remember SF Debris correctly?

Just found out there is a getter robo novel, only to be canceled with only one volume.

Damn

tbh I assumed there was many Getter prose novels given all the other crap that gets an LN

If the dub of Patlabor: The Movie is good, I recoil to think what a bad dub sounds like: the voice acting is taking me out of it. I need to rewatch it with subs.

Still, the conceit of a malicious closed-source OS being the driver of the story tickles my funny bone, and makes me imagine Patlabor's world having inadequate FOSS alternatives, complete with anime Richard Stallman.

I recall the old manga dub was okay? I never got into the patlabor dubs since the cast keeps changing between productions
